Depends on what you want to do, really. As noted electricity may be relevant if you're building a base on a planet. But they wouldn't help at all if your base is either a corvette or a freighter

Personally I think a freighter makes for a fine place to grow crops. That's really the only thing I ever needed in terms of basebuilding. I just buy any metals and such instead of dealing with mining

But really the correct answer is to build whatever makes you happiest. Nothing beyond the bare minimum is required. All the automatic farms generally take more effort to set up than you actually save from having them unless you're using a particular resource to a truly unusual extent.

Building is fun! But it isn't actually an effective use of your time if your goal is to progress.

There's really no wrong way to do it, but if you're looking for examples. My corvette is my home but has no production, my freighter is my farm (crops). One planet base mining a lategame metal, one base mining ammonia, one settlement producing kelp for cooking and one settlement producing special purple crystals (spoiler potential)

Regarding the two planet bases. I genuinely only ever picked up their output once and then they stopped being relevant

"humid" is just a synonym for lush biome planets - the synonym used wont be useful to know if it has green grass for example - all lush biome bodies have star bulb on the list.

I never try to spend units fast enough...the opposite, I always try to stay at cap units. If I spend small amounts I can just scan a creature for like 511k on my main MT not specialized for fauna scans. If I spend a couple hundred million I switch to my MT specialized for fauna scans and put the nutrient ingestor to work and get my units back by scanning less than a dozen creatures...rare scans pay 38+ million each. And if I have to blow billions I put my stasis device farms to work...my farms automate the materials for 120 Stasis Devices per day which sell for ~1.87 billion units per day and I have a container full of Stasis Devices so I can use the 4.29 billion I carry and withdraw from storage when I need to spend more than 1.87 billion per day and then make up the deficit over multiple days afterwards. I recently spent about 20 billion accumulating a lot of freighter tech modules and 600 cargo bulkheads and made up the cost in about 10 or 11 days.

Saving them up for the possibility that Hello Games either allow us to own more freighters or in case they change something fundamental about how freighters work that would force me to replace my freighter, which if I had to do I'd need lots of cargo bulkheads to max out its slots...usually around 150 cargo bulkheads give or take to bring a freighter to 120+60 slots.

Kind of...not directly but you can buy Emergency Signal Scanners and run derelict freighters and claim a cargo bulkhead from the final terminal...EMSs cost from 5 million increasing in price until they cap at 30 million each and reset back to 5 mil after the next real time day. So the first 3 or 4 are cheaper but for most I pay 30 mil each.

I found one randomly in a yellow container on an abandoned station one time but no...finding them in loot is rare. I don't even bother trying to loot for them...too time consuming for too little reward. I just buy them from scrap dealers and pay the exorbitant prices.

Mine no longer does that. Not sure if it's a bug, or if I hit an invisible quota only Hello Games know about but no more free EMSs for me. Not that one per week matters for me in any meaningful way but yeah...no more free EMSs as far as I can tell.

so, during one of the expeditions the last system was where everyone was doing derelict freighters, you could just fly to any of the players and pick up the ship - it was wild - in fact I stowed away on their ship to get the reward for takeing a ride

Last expedition didn't count the stupid freighter the first time so had to do it again...

Could tell it bugged out since it didn't show any progress like it normally does.

I think the requirement is you have to complete the 3 main terminals for it to count...I don't think discovering all the rooms is required but for the expedition milestones I make a habit of opening and stepping inside all the optional rooms rooms too, just to make sure the game knows that derelict is complete. Never had an issue with it that way. Outside of expeditions when I was hunting derelict freighter lore I found one instance where the credentials for the middle terminal did not spawn at all and they were not in the walls or in side rooms as they sometimes are...but I think that's extremely rare...not something likely to happen much at all.

Combed through that thing multiple times never missed anything, it just glitched out and had %value% or some other gibberish where it normally showed rooms/zones explored and terminals accessed.

Did it in a totally different system just in case on the second one

It would have taken less than 10 minutes to do it yourself with multiplayer off...you just wasted an hour. First thing I do every expedition is make sure multiplayer is off and never turn it back on.
