There is a set of different missions that lay out the universe of the game, these culminate in a decision to stay, or go to a new galaxy and essentially 'start over' except you keep everything, you can travel back to bases/settlements in the 'old galaxy' its one of the big things the game launched around which is that its X number of star systems X 256 Galaxies so X^256 star systems to explore

if you go out of that ring the chances of you finding a planet discovered by someone else become much much lower

I think decently common because there are select spawns but don’t worry after a bit you won’t be close to that spawn lol
