Most of the time when I get a settlement I build a base as close as I can (preferably overlooking it from above) then extend the base boundaries into the settlement, which lets me build base parts in the settlement. I typically run a Short Range Teleporter corridor from the base to the Overseer's office (you can see two of them at the midway point in the above photo) and in this case, all my NPC consoles and Exocraft Geobays around that interchange as well. Eventually, the settlement randomly placed a Landing Pad under construction there too. Now it is finished.

Most commonly, shopping for it. Any freighter you can land in whose looks you like, do so, and scan while in the landing bay to see its stats. Lather, rinse, repeat. 3 star economy for best results also.
It is also possible to save scum the freighter defense battles to get one for free, but go to a tier 3 (3 star) economy on your fifth space warp at least 3 hours after your last freighter defense battle to maximize S-class chances. Can take days of save scumming, so food luck.

A couple of days ago, some patch or update was installed, and ever since, my friend and I haven’t been able to play together.
He’s on Xbox and I’m on PC.

Just three days ago, everything worked perfectly — we were playing without any issues.
But now, the game throws a “version mismatch” error, and it turns out we really do have different versions of the game.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?
Will this get fixed soon, or is there something we can do on our end?

Yah, that's the oddity. There is no mission marker except on the Overseer console, and it is not doing anything at the moment. (I recently authorized an expedition, no buildings are in progress of anything as far as I know...)

Usually they're not very far apart, but these fixes were necessary so they pushed the Steam one sooner since they could (they can directly upload builds to Steam whenever they want)

This happened to me. I had to turn off the mission in the log - select something else and go from building to building until I found the green check. It wouldn’t appear when I had the settlement mission selected

Eventually I found the building to re open

You have to find the Overseer office (different name though) and build that out, then the other options to build and decisions start showing up.

Yes, but I expect it has changed. Previously, if you got another settlement, it dumped your previous one. That does not work now, of course.
