honestly i had my husband do the SMAPI and mod downloading for me. I'd say to probably play vanilla till you can have someone walk you through (either by following a video or someone doing it for you) if you aren't confident in it. It's not too complicated, but the instructions confused me as well even tho i'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out
