you can use mods on an old save, yes. some mods suggest you start a new save, but you won't get a broken save just because you started modding an old, vanilla one
what you can't do is use a modded save for vanilla. and even that is still technically possible following a guide

seems like the issue is with your mods install. for xiddav's little red school house, it seems like you're missing xiddav's tilesheets

Hello! I am new to modding and SV as whole, i recently installed around 80 mods (Mostly QOL and Visuals), the game has been running great, with no actual errors, neither in game or in the SMAPI console. The problem arises when i join a game for more than 5-10 minutes, especially if hosting a multiplayer server, the game simple starts dropping to 5 fps every few seconds and becomes unplayable, before that, the game runs absolutely smooth, does anyone have any tips? PSA: It can't really be due to specs since i always have 17% CPU usage and 1-2 GB of memory free when running the game.
i think i found the problem with Save Anywhere
Stardew is single threaded so CPU usage doesn’t mean that much

modlists shouldn't be compared because not all mods have an equal impact on performance and everyone's specs are different

my friend is having an issue where sometimes opening a container would make the camera stop following their character and going anywhere would cause a black screen. exhaustion would give them unlimited stamina and the day won't end as it should.

Hey so I have a question. I’ve been using some mods that just make the game look a bit better like adding reflections and I just started a world with a friend. The thing I want to know is if I use the mods while he’s offline and turn them off when he wants to play, will the game run fine. I tested and saw that if I add mods on a solo world and turn them off it still works fine so just want to make sure I don’t just destroy our world by using mods.

Implemented in version 1.5.5, MonoGame is the latest framework that Stardew uses, and was implemented to solve problems such as Memory limits and audio issues. Unfortunately, MonoGame has a bug which affects random computers, not allowing them to launch Stardew. This bugs randomly targets computers, regardless of your operating system or hardware and is out of ConcernedApe's control. There is currently no known fix. It’s something he should be aware of and pushing Monogame to fix. The people who experience tearing after the engine change do not benefit from screen tearing. It’s a pattern.

started a new save and for some reason a significant amount of trees and bushes are missing around different parts of town and i also notice a few extra ones on random spots they normally shouldnt be (for example theres one bush right on top of the special orders board), has anyone experienced this before?

I've been playing with a friend for a while, and we have the exact same mods.
We've been using Alternative Textures, and it syncs every textures apart from buildings. This is one of the "problems"
But today, her game got stuck in an endless loop of errors at the end of the day. When she quit her game, I could proceed to the daily sales screen and save the game. That happened twice, on different days. I have no idea what we're doing that's triggering this error. I think it's important to say that's those thousands of errors are only happening at her end. My game is fine and my SMAPI is completely ok. Once again, we're using the exact same mods.

hey! havent been here in a while ahahah, using an alt account for now due to dumb reasons but m names still the same. anywayss so im back to playing stardew after a long hiatus and its amazing, but my friend isn't having the same experience. apparently my computer is a LOT better than hers. so while im having zero issues running the game with a bunch of mods, they are absolutly struggling. vanilla works fine, but when we are playing modded, its basically unplayable for her. freezing every few minutes, loading times between maps up to 5 minutes, and just generally overall horrible performance. im running it fine however, he only thing i notice is a little bit of lag when saving. i know im gonna need to remove a few mods sadly, but i don't actually know which ones are most likely to be causing the performance issues. heres the log from our play session together just now. can anyone help me trim this down? While expansion mods like Stardew Valley Expanded (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3753) and Ridgeside Village (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/7286) can usually be added to an existing save without issue, it is often recommended to start a new save. This avoids issues such as leftover map objects, as well as having a large amount of heart events trigger at once. It also lets the user experience a continuous storyline.

in general it's pretty straightforward but you could always make a habit to read changelogs to see exactly what's changing with the updates
So I'm having a dialogue mod that's having an issue with a reaction/answer dialogue. Every time I select any option in a particular dialogue, I get the following SMAPI error:

Has anyone had trouble with the Naomi introduction in the Ridgeside mod? I started the file with it, I'm on summer 2 year 2, and I've tried unchecking progressive story and she still wont show up
got another "this is an empty folder" error but the folder is not empty

I checked the search first and no one has indicated they've got a fix for this yet: When using Convenient Inventory, Better Chests no longer allows you to use it's quick stack feature which unfortunately is superior. Does anyone know of a workaround or correction? I was trying to fix it myself but I'm not familiar with how to adjust mods for SV yet.

Good afternoon everyone! lovely game i got yesterday and got me really addicted!
i was wondering why there are no armors/helmets to wear in game? with this combat system that there is, it kinda surprised me, so i wanted to make a mod with several armors/helmets and leg protections
so i wanted to add this helmet to start, watched at content patcher but it didnt really help me or i cant figure out, any ideas or where to start?
As there are currently no new frameworks to add custom wearable slots (at least none I've noticed), besides from disguising a ring as an armor piece I would assume some C# wizardry would be needed? Mayhaps the folks over in #making-mods-general can help you further.

Current android SMAPI version is fairly broken, and most if not all mods are unable to work with it. I'm afraid you'd have to wait for a newer version or opt for PC as Box mentioned.

If I wanted to use two different portrait mods for ridgeside village could I do that? Like one HD mod for some characters and and like something like BBBongs portraits too? Or can I only have one or the other installed at once
With Portraiture, you can have two options installed at the same time
However, be aware that some of Bbooong's portraits are missing expressions for some of the characters, so you may end up seeing their default portrait, or just no portrait at all, in certain cases

That's probably just to spawn items. It likely doesn't actually need it, so should be safe to remove it if you don't want to spawn items.

Interesting. SMAPI on Android is rewriting the methods which draw those elements:
Rewrote CJBCheatsMenu.dll to fix OptionsElement methods...
And it's apparently not calling the original draw method at all. I can't check what the rewriters are doing since ZaneYork hasn't pushed their changes, but my guess is the rewrite facade is reimplementing the logic instead of calling the original signature. That'd be something that'll need to be fixed in SMAPI on Android if so, it's not something the mod can fix.

Yeah, the rewriters are just suppressing the original method entirely. So I think we'll probably need to wait until that's fixed in SMAPI on Android.
I played last night and closed the game today I opened the game without any updates or adding mods and it suddenly stopped working. NPC Map Locations mod is causing an issue. I tried downloading and replacing it but no solution.

I've sent Child2NPC a PR before, I know how it works, I know full well there's never been multiplayer support

Just throwing this here in case someone could give some additional insight; I didn't get any response earlier today.
If the two mods have integrated in that way you probably can't really change it much; I'm not sure if Better Chests is disabling after detecting a conflicting mod or what
You might have to just pick one of the mods to keep if you don't like the way they interact
when i install stardew expande and i install all of the other required mods its still says im missing some does anyone know why???

Windows 11 has built in unzipper i think. Right click the zip file then if you see word extract, choose that

idk if this is the right channel for this (but I am using mods), is this a natural thing to occur after sleeping, and what will happen if I force close the game as nothing is happening

I saw an error, it happened after sleeping as I went to bed at like 8am 
I have backups I think as I have the save backup mod

no, just the normal shed
If so it probably is bad
The last error usually happens when you enter a map that has bad map properties
I assume all I can do is reload the game

Hi guys, I've been scratching my head over this for a while now and cannot work out what the problem is. I updated a bunch of mods and now yet another harvest with scythe and wear more rings are broken. I've redownloaded everything so it should all be up to date and compatible! hmm do you remember which mods you updated?
when you say rings are broken do you refer to the texture of them?
there's an initialization error in the log
The actual mods can't be loaded via smapi but I don't understand why

idk I was just asking about the texture as I had that issue a couple days ago, the people here are really knowledgable, I'll leave it to them 👀
just in case, can you make an exception in your antivirus for your mods folder, and redownload and unzip the mods there?
i know someone else had a similar issue with wmr but i dont remember what the fix was hmmm let me look
im p sure that one was because they used a sus unzipper 
oh yeah! what are you using to unzip the mods?
I use 7-zip to extract, and I've done the antivirus exception
just attempting redownload and unzip again
7zip shouldnt be causing that, but we never know. let us know if that works

no luck so far, still shows the same errors
hmmm can you try to do the same with stardewhack? and if possible use the windows built in extractor
stardewhack is indeed the common factor between those two
OH! That was it, I have no idea why but stardewhack extracted with the windows unzipper instead of 7zip has solved it
last time this happened, it was the unzipper creating a weird mod version mismatch, where the mod versions updated but the contents of the mods didnt 😆
I would never have thought to use a different unzipper, that's insane
weird that 7zip is causing issues tho. i thought 7zip was good to use

Have you guys ever download Profiler mod? Usually there is a snag/lag/a frozen moment when the [Big loop]....... shows up on the smapi. Is it normal?
Usually when you walk then it generates the [Big loop] summary you end up walking a few tiles from where you were. Specially when you have +2 speed it would look like you're glitching
