The bare minimum is the base game. I don't know if the sale is still on going. But if you are unsure, get that at least before spending more money at DLCs. There will be more sales later (Xmas, Spring/Easter, maybe one in between) You can get a feel for the game with minimal investment. If it isn't enough you can try mods. And later invest in DLCs.

DLCs are not a requirement for normal gameplay. Only if the gameplay takes place on the terrain it comes with, then you can't play on that server or (sp) mission. If the mission designer was so stupid to make a mission reliant on using DLC gear then you need to find better missions.

I suggest to go through the bootcamp, Tutorial in VR world, showcases and campaign first in single player. No point in getting into multiplayer if you don't know how everything the basics works.

Well the mission is bugged, if you are playing it on a server you might want to play it in the single player campaign. At the point where you are now a (big) counter attack should start and evac should show up at the beach (reason why AI is moving to that location), my guess is that this trigger appears not to be working activating that part of the mission.

Truth be told, you don't really need any of the DLCs if you plan on playing w/ a unit or community that plays modded.

Only terrain that comes with DLC or community DLC prevents you from logging on to a server. But there are other free terrains on the workshop. You just have to be selective in the name of the terrain when selecting which server you join.

My unit has been running without it for years now - seems like when we use it, it will enable some people to run infinitely, while other people will run until they get fatigued, and then never regain their stamina. I do not like removing ACE stamina. I see what happens when players are not over encumbered. They turn into rocket wookies who lone wolf since they have all AT and medical equipment on them.

now almost in 2022, is there a definitive way to optimize arma II (or arma II maps)? I have seen several old guides and I have everything at a minimum, and in the benchmarks I get about 31 fps, but at the time of playing it seems that it runs at 18 fps (even in takistan), especially when looking at the trees or the forest, I do not know if it is because the hdr but it also looks blurry.. Even arma 3 runs better for me and without as much lag as arma 2

Arma is not like any other game. I have been an avid FPS since Counterstrike, and count most of the AAA titles in my library. they are great for their pace, but none compares to the realistic movement and tactics found in ARMA, If you are anything like me, once you get past the steep learning curve, ARMA is a title that can give you thousands of hours of enjoyment, and you will find yourself uninstalling all those AAA shooters.

The size of Kavala on Altis, or Georgetown in Tanoa is a town mostly. Cities would be way bigger. And Arma 3 doesn't handle such density. There are some multi-level buildings that you can get into (at most 3 stories iirc). The bigger story buildings have opaque reflective windows that you can't get in. Doors are closed

I am currently playing on a 600 bucks laptop I got for uni this summer and it runs okay most of the time. Ryzen 5 4600H, GTX 1650, 16GB RAM. But as with everything in Arma 3, it heavily depends on what's currently going on on the map

It's a CPU bound game

Changing graphics settings won't really change anything about performance unless you are GPU limited

I suggest trying out different community made memory allocators, that can make a difference sometimes. It won't make you magically get 20 fps more but it will make the game more stable and bring a small performance boost

squad gives you some frame to work with.
arma doesnt really.

if you want more freedom for your missions and so on take arma. if you dont want to prepare yourself like 5 years before even playing your first round you should rather use squad.

the freedom can be seen in the workshop as well.
squad (from 2015) has 289 mods
arma (from 2013) has 98886 mods

what im usually saying: If you want better graphics play squad. If you want the better game play Arma

One of my friends trying the game just told me how insanely tough it is. He is in the mission where you need to escape the forest alone and go and join in with your other team mates and he was apparently getting shot and killed by the ai while he couldnt even spot them

Squad is fully pvp oriented though. Maybe I Just havent found an arma community devoted to pvp (Still have to participate in ofcra event for the first time). But movement in arma is a bit clunky which makes it not ideał for a pvp game. Its great for pve however. You Got SO many different game model and scenarios that it definitely is Worth its price. Hell, id buy full price arme for a game that is Just antistasi 😀

I think a small fraction of the staff may already be doing concert art for arma 4, and most are doing the enfusion engine.

Something about armas 3 graphics that to this day still looks photoreal.
Like the way everything is just so sharp and objects to the sun light prorpely, barely any use of filters at all like red dead redemption 2, that yes while it looks amazing too you can tell its filter heavy. But arma 3 still is more realistic to me, hard to explain this

Squad has several match types (albeit two of which are a variation on a third) but the only single-player thing is the Shooting Range, whereas Arma 3 has as many modes (scripted SP, open-world SP, co-op, player vs. player, team vs. team, team vs. team vs. AI, even GTA Online-style roleplay) as you care to try

Enfusion engine news in December/January, idk When BI wants to tell us about their 2021, I'm sure they'll touch on the topic with the enfusion engine, they can be able to say that in 2022, and at the end of 2021 they will just talk about what they are going to do and what is happening with the enfusion engine.
