hmm. your best bet is to ask in #troubleshooting - it's possible someone there might have more information - but I would certainly send a bug report in game (escape menu >"report a bug") with those images and a description of what is going on. I would also include your save file in it as well.

If it's the same terrain, it shouldn't act any differently. I would take a video of it and send it in with a bug report explaining what you found.

i have recreated exact copies of terrain where there is normal grass. it is somehow locked to original height of terrain when it occurs.. not to composition of soil

Because of the way the ground "moves" to even out, sometimes lower/nearby terrains can move into the area where you are palcing stuff down.

you can place 100 layers of dirt on top of each other with no other materials near ..as soonas you get past a certain altitude compared to the maps original level of ground.. it will get rocky

If I make it the big cube it was always grass.

As you explain it, it'd be strange because I could have the Grass behave exactly as I wanted it.

I play around with terrain a lot. I only get the "stony" bits when I place it too close to stone or have too much of an incline.

and they are (fairly) easily removed or evened out with a rake when they happen.

You should be able to rake it out once you get the dirt to where you want it to be. should being the operative word.

well you aren't going to change the sides of it - the side shows the "dirt" - but the top... might need some finagling to get it to work just right, especially if it's a small area

and it might just be that way on the outsides of it, depending on how you do the underside of your island - but the middle, where the grass is completely flat, it shouldn't act that way

the color of the grass also changes then

for example if there is stone structure and then earth. or rock and earth. grass+grass makes it more grasslike without i feel

Yes, but if he already had that slot as a save file, he will overwrite whatever is on there.

hey guys question about the flame altars.. If mine is lvl3 and i want to move bases do i have to farm the resources again to upgrade another or can i just extinguish the flame and make another base lvl 3?

How do Altars/Flame Levels work?

Here is some quick guidance on how the Altars & Flame levels work in Enshrouded.

To remove an already placed altar, walk up to it, press E and press the “Extinguish Flame” button at the bottom.

• A 30-second timer then begins to run. During this period you can reverse the action taken.
• After these 30 seconds the altar disappears.
• The world flame level remains.
• No materials will be refunded
• The altar level is lost

⚠️ structures and items created by the player within the flame radius remain until the corresponding area is either left for 30 minutes or the player logs out. Everything in the former flame radius is then extinguished.

You have multiple options for "farming" farm soil.

1. To produce it at the farmer, needs bone dust and dirt.
2. Whack your pickaxe into farm soil placed at the ground.

The contest was hosted by Kyberplay/Elrubius, Kyberplay has hosted contests like this in the past for other games. We mostly just partnered with them to provide the funding and support to make it happen. I hope people read their post in #news because I think it clears up some misconceptions around the contest.

But yeah it definitely has some learnings for us as well, if we ever decide to do a contest of our own in-house.

I think this probably caused a good chunk of the pain points for players, and to be honest we should have been more clear on this sooner which is our bad.

Enshrouded Architects of Wonder is a contest that was initially supposed to be run between content creators (Youtubers / Streamers) in order to promote the game. When we discussed the concept with El Rubius, he insisted on making it a public contest open to everyone as he thought it would be better for his community and the Enshrouded community in general.

The original idea was that this would be a contest more focused on ElRubius/other streamers and their community, but he thought it would be more fun to extend it out to anyone who was interested. Which was honestly very nice of him. But it did mean that a lot of weirdness happened in regards to the timeline and stuff.

I mostly am saying that the original idea was more of a marketing beat than anything else, a way to promote the game to ElRubius and the massive community that surrounds him. But for many reasons it ended up expanding into the existing community as a whole which created very different expectations I think.

Overall I think there's a lot we can learn about from it if we decide to do something like this in the future, same for Kyberplay I'm sure.

You can add a lot of interest and break up a build/make it less boxy by doing 4 simple things: add small "extensions" our from large walls, use roofline with various floor heights and dormers, use a variety of materials for the build, and landscape using plants and building around the natural elevations instead of flattening it completely. 🙂

Valheim was originally made by a team of 3-5 devs, we're a small studio of 50ish employees that have a long history of working on game development.

Other than the games themselves/genre, I wouldn't really draw too many comparisons between our two studios, as we're very different.

Yeah we sponsored and promoted the contest but ultimately it was run by Kyberplay/ElRubius so we didn't have much influence on who was selected by the end of it. Cub and I were there to advise them a bit and help them out when they needed it but most of the work was by them and their judges. Our biggest mistake was not making that clearer earlier on tbh, I think a lot of players saw it as a very official contest run by Keen, but our intention was more a fun way to partner with a very large creator in a market we don't have much influence in (the Spanish market).

It's a nice suggestion, but it wasn't really part of the competition rewards, and there was so much confusion surrounding the contest to begin with, it would likely just cause more issues and conflict. It's a great idea for future, Keen-run competitions though 🙂

It definitely would be, expanding dev teams is a nightmare, especially from that size.

The process of developing a game with you and a few buddies is completely different than an actual studio development pipeline, so they probably needed to restructure... Everything. That inevitably creates a lot of inefficiency and takes time, no matter how much money you made on sales.

I think they went from like 3-5 to like 20 or something? Last I heard. Would basically require rebuilding the team and all your development structure from the ground up, probably involved hiring some producers from the outside to consult with and set all that up as well.

restructure what? code? i get the whole narrative of it's hard to recruit good people, and then those people need a few months to learn the ropes, but i guess there's also a difference between someone lying on their resume and learning coding, compared to someone who is qualified for the job and you point to something and they know what to do without questions.

anyway, game dev is hard, lots of game dev teams just died, and they were pretty successful and had successful games lol

Nah I mean the way development teams function at a studio level is fundamentally different. To the point where many solo/tiny team devs actually struggle to adapt if they ever land a job in a studio environment, and vice versa. Once you reach a certain number of devs you are basically forced to have some kind of development structure/pipeline in order for things to not be a total mess, and those kind of structures are rarely if ever used by teams of just 3-5 buddies.

Nah I am more referring to the way tasks are distributed, with separate groups for things like design, QA, production, engineering, etc etc etc. In small groups those tasks are mostly just... "Hey who knows how to do this?" Everyone on the team is an extremely general role and there's probably little to no structure in how things are being done, just people tossing things into the build as they see fit. Which is fine, but does not work at all when you actually want to scale a team bigger.
