Hello, I have a quick question but unsur if this is related to Vesktop, Vencord, Discord itself, or even my OS :D:

When on Discord (without Vesktop\Vencord) on my android or win I have no trouble viewing Kanji (from japan mainly but probably same issue with other asian scripts)
But when using Vesktop on my new Gentoo install I only see square, I know this is probably related to font but I don't how where to start to look and what should I really look for.

So any help on the subjet would be highly appreciated 🙂

-disable all plugins
-hardware accel
-various winpriority changes

Normal & Web Vencord work fine (including fakenitro), This is strictly a Vesktop issue.
This issue doesn't happen on my Laptop - Both using Win11 & Vesktop works flawlessly other than not being able to screenshare

Screensharing on Linux still looks horrible for me. v1.5.2 had some changes concerning this, but it doesn't look any better for me.
The debug menu shws that the stream bitrate goes as low as 20kbit/s and everyone else also confirms it looks ass.

Toggling hardware acceleration makes no difference, toggling audio for the screen share makes no difference, every launch parameter I could find on the GitHub issue tracker makes no difference. Changing resolution and fps makes no difference.
The only thing I could find is setting the quality mode to "clarity preferred" but at that point the fps are abyssmal.

Is this still just the general state of screensharing or is something broken on my end? Some reports on GitHub make it sound like it should be far better.

The bad quality of screensharing with Vesktop was known for a long time. It's just that v1.5.2 had changes (PR #489 specifically) which should have made it better, but it's still as bad as ever in my experience.

What confuses me is that everyone in the PR discussion claims the issues I gone while I still experience them.

Seems like Discord is still running in the background. Make sure you close it fully. It will most likely be in your tray, but if not you can use your Task Manager to force close it. After that, you should be able to install Vencord properly.

Seems like Discord is still running in the background. Make sure you close it fully. It will most likely be in your tray, but if not you can use your Task Manager to force close it. After that, you should be able to install Vencord properly.

However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don't use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!

Regardless, if your account is very important to you and it getting disabled would be a disaster for you, you should probably not use any client mods (not exclusive to Vencord), just to be safe
