Installer says "You have a broken Discord Install"

You actually do have a broken/scuffed Discord Install. For some reason, sometimes Discord installs to a weird location and it breaks Vencord

If reinstalling Discord doesn't fix it:

  • Press Windows Button + R
  • type %PROGRAMDATA% and press enter
  • find the folder named after your username and open it
  • Delete any folders called Squirrel/Discord. If the folder is now empty (likely), also delete the folder (the one named after your username)
  • Try opening Discord. If it doesn't start, reinstall Discord
  • Now it should be fixed, confirm Discord runs and the error doesn't happen anymore

Why does Vencord include plugins like MessageLogger & ShowHiddenChannels? Can't those get you banned?

This is misinformation spread by BetterDiscord staff to justify their own rules and scare users into not using them
Obviously, some people might find these plugins unethical or privacy invasive and thats okay! But those are personal opinions and in no way are these plugins any "more bannable" than other plugins

Their justification for MessageLogger supposedly being bannable is that "Message loggers are in violation discord's API terms and privacy policy, and can result in account termination" [sic] however the "API terms" are terms for the API, which MessageLogger does not interact with in any way, and the privacy policy quite literally states that "You can choose what messages to send or post" and "if you share content in certain spaces, [...] your content may be accessed by anyone. ", directly warning you of the risk that users may save your messages or similar. Both of these resources also have no direct mention of logging messages being against the terms at all, in fact bots are allowed to log messages for genuine interest reasons such as moderation, and (paraphrased from the API terms) retaining "API data" (aka messages and similar) is okay as long as it is necessary for your application's functionality (again, the plugin is no API application so these rules don't even apply, but if it were, retaining messages would fall under its functionality thus be okay)

Additionally, both of these plugins operate fully offline, they make 0 additional requests to Discord, so they are "undetectable" anyway. And there are 0 known cases of anyone getting banned for using them

In conclusion, these plugins do not violate Discord's ToS any more than any other plugin or client modding in general and are safe to use. But as for any other plugins, I still heavily advise you not to post screenshots or boast about them, and to not use them to annoy other users

And also, respect other mods and respect their rules. We (Vencord) allow it but don't be a douche. Follow BetterDiscord's rules if you're using it

2 Engines on VirusTotal detect the Vencord Installer as malware, is this a Virus?

These are false positives and you can safely disregard them. I don't know what exactly those engines suddenly have against us but the exact same file they now flag was not flagged by them just a few days ago, so it's very obvious this is just bullshit detection (a lot of engines on VirusTotal are absolute garbage so you can usually ignore the no name ones, even the Firefox installer is apparently malware (thanks MaxSecure))

The source code is easily verifiable on GitHub, and in case you still don't trust it you can easily build the installer from source yourself with the instructions in the README on GitHub

Vencord has updates so often, I don't wanna have to update/restart so often :(

Open the Updater settings and set these toggles to off, on, off and Vencord will automatically update in the background without notifying you. If you still want to see the changelog occasionally, you can manually check https://github.com/Vendicated/Vencord/commits/main

But before doing so, maybe consider the security implications of enabling automatic unprompted updates and whether the added convenience is really worth the weakened security for you (this applies to all apps, not just Vencord. Any app could potentially become compromised one day and push a malicious update)

why is my discord laggy?

the most common cause of lag is poorly written css and themes

try temporarily disabling all your themes and your quick css and see if the lag is gone

to then figure out which parts of your css are laggy, I recommend just removing small bits of it step by step until you figure out the culprit

discord updated and now vencord is gone

just open the installer and press Repair/Reinstall - you won't lose any of your vencord settings don't worry

Normal occurrence that happens every so often (~ once a month, more frequently if using canary)

"oops an unknown error occurred" while trying to update
Update using the Repair button in the installer
Or if you're using Vesktop, right click the Vesktop tray icon and press "Update Vencord"

how do i get nitro features without nitro?

the FakeNitro plugin lets you use a lot of features like emotes, stickers and screenshare quality

any feature not supported by it already is not possible (e.g. soundboard, upload size, avatar stuff, etc)

how do i change/remove [---] button/thing in discord?

You can usually do this with just css. a plugin should not be needed. chances are, someone already made a css snippet that does exactly that. try searching "in: #🎨-css-snippets [keyword]". for example, if you want to hide the gift button, try searching "in:#🎨-css-snippets gift" or "in:#🎨-css-snippets nitro"

does vencord support mobile?

Technically yes, we have a very barebones app for android: Vendroid
However, it suffers from many issues and thus is not recommended for daily use (nor is it actively being worked on)

Instead, we recommend the following alternatives:
