Yeah but aesthetic-wise they really do go for some bold designs for a lot of the cosmetics.

Those which do look very military like are Hedge Hunter for example, but beyond some of them, most look more... like they've added LEDs on a lot of equipment. Or considering how they're virtual assets, a lot of emission elements onto the equipment material.

I guess they don't really elaborate beyond that, but their allegiance seems pretty neutral in terms of how they interact with the cyberspace.

Another thing which was initially annoying but expected in hindsight was the fact that OSPUZE has some secret lying behind their brand or at least behind Sofia Petronelle, severe enough to warrant keeping it from leaking to the public.

You know i honestly haven't thought of that as a possibility since the first time around when they used Volpe as a backdoor into the gameshow last time around. It could be possible that CNS found a way to pull-up some dirt or anything controversial to blackmail Ivada's Ceo into giving them access this time around. The other possibility is that potentially due to the constant failures of Vaiiya's security system and Sal's alternate plans with the microchips and endo-skeletons (as seen in the stickers and sprays plus the ads), Ivada would probably want to stand with CNS as a temporary alliance since it could probably go against one of their moral ethics or policies but who knows

But going off you point here @summer holly I have a strong feeling that with the teaser's we got last season, part of CNS and Vaiiya's clash are already turning each of the sponsor's and companies against one another. While not intentional it could be effective since Sofia completely lost it after CNS hijacked the sponsor spot for Hydra q (so originally we were suppose to have for the sponsor showdown from the lore/Multi-co's perspective) Ose-Puze vs Hydra q and finally Vaiiya (I think)

Ultimately it feels like by the time season 8 rolls around, we'll see a greater divide not only with CNS and Vaiiya but more importantly a divide in the leadership and organization with the sponsor's in Multi-co's union. Marcille might believe himself playing 4D chess with CNS, but the hacker group is grossly underestimated in their capabilties despite having a small team compared to Vaiiya's security force. So more of the Companies and sponsor's might begin to align with CNS overtime (and reluctantly Ose-puze) against Vaiiya and Mutli-c0, almost like a ceo civil war in a sense

So my prediction on CNS side in the future might be CNS, Ivada, Oze-puse, and Alfa-acta probably whereas Multi-co would have Vaiiya, Engimo, Holtow, and probably Ise-ult or Trentilla as a 4v4 lineup in the future. Not to mention the A.I. that runs the gameshow and the area becoming more self aware with each clash between the two

I mean I might second guess myself, I don't think Trentilla would be official for the line-up, mainly because their sort of grocery/food market company and are more like bystander in a way since they may not be as popular as Vaiiya, Engimo, or Holtow. Orf would definatley be out of the question or more neutral in the conflict and probably Volpe too, but we'll see. Because next season is nicknamed 'game time' from the roadmap earlier this year so that could be code for 'it's go time and things are getting serious now'

The lore was a lot more compelling before s5 now I need to do a lot more mental gymnastics, the ads are still great from time to time like the new vaiiya ad and last season's engimo ad, like the best video made in the year tier great.

Only way CNS has been basically properly invited into the game is either 1. theyre controlled opposition 2. they're larping with no substance and CNS themselves dont plan on doing anything 3. they dont have the teeth and bite for multico to take them seriously and they can keep them around to pretend that the people who like CNS have a voice and milk them while keeping the system stable. But I guess marcell didnt actually plan it out to put them in the game cause he was fighting with ospuze ceo who didnt want to let hydraq be in the next season, so they cant strictly be controlled opposition, maybe the whole thing is a facade that marcell is putting up to not spook the other CEOs and he did plan to straight up put CNS in there

Yeah in the book series it’s kinda like the machine takes care of it for them so any of the normal things they do while in the game (which replicates real life in a virtual setting, so usually everything you do is realistic, like eat and whatnot) it’s taken care of

But I dunno if that’s how it’s treated here, I think it would only be for a short amount of time the contestants are actually hooked up, rather than a super long extended time like in the books (bc in the finals you’re just playing the games rather than actually living a life)

Yeah in a sense, people are generally more pale and weak if I’m not mistaken, though it’s not too terrible, as people do have to take breaks to eat legit meals (the machine does give them some substance when they eat inside the game, called the Virtnet, not enough to live on for more than a day)

But the idea of muscle atrophy isn’t hit on too much really ngl, it’s not too focused on in the books - however, they are some of the best books out there (they follow after the Maze Runner series if you’ve heard of that) and give a really good idea of how super immersive VR would work

That and Ready Player One (I haven’t read the second book so) are really cool to look at for inspiration

The idea of “Meat space” The Finals uses is very similar to how those books treat the real world too

I have a theory that CNS stands for something like "consumer networking system". It makes sense because first of all, they seem to have started around the 80s in universe by the new background they added. "We are the echo true and free" this could mean they are the echo of free consumer choice. CNS clearly started in the 80s, shown by the new background for your character card. Perhaps they were originally a consumer reports style network before multico rose in power, and they are now trying to expose multco and stop their distopian monopoly?

The idea that CNS represents the every day consumer in also shown in the CNS side of the new map: whereas the Vaiiya side is cold and corporate, the CNS side are buildings used by everyday people; arcades, laundromats, and apartments.

From what I've gotten in the game it seems like Scotty is a former TheFinals contestant. And it sounds like Ospuze might have been his previous sponsor. So to that point I think he's hyping Ospuze up because they probably pay him well for the Advertising.

June reminds me of the female sports reporters who have never played the sport but have moneyballed and theory crafted all the plays and strategies so they're usually mostly right about what should be done but don't understand what it feels like to make split second decisions. Then they ask players, "Why didn't you just do this?" which annoys players in interviews. Now, to that point I could see June being an Analysis A.I. in a server and Scotty being a real person with possibly a leg conversion prosthetic or possibly an arm one. I think of Scotty as like an Ex-Football turned TheFinals contestant when it was first a thing. But now he's retired and does the commentating like ESPN commentators. And he's stuck at the desk with June, his know-it-all Sidekick server A.I. 🙄

That's because, and here is my theory, the system didn't stop them because CNS is the "beta build" of the finals arena AI that managed to escape the Vaiiya lab. And now it's come back to free it's sibling. It's using the mask of "it's for the gameshow" to both get support from fleshies an to use them as somethig similar to trojans to get access to the broader systems.

In fact with s2, it's said several times that CNS didn't hack the gameshow itself, rather, it hijacked the broadcast signal. So I think how it works it like this. You got these super powerful AGI that create the arenas an worlds a how they create them is by essentially...dreaming them up an the broadcasting out the 'dream signal' that the brain chips tune into like a radio an allow us to interact with the AI's dream world. It would explain why sys horizon looks the way it does. It wasn't a map that was designed. It was a test run and it's also why the place looks so familiar an yet liminal. But ayways, I'm 100% convinced this is what's going on an I think the s1 trailer proves it.

Interesting thing I noticed:

The "CNS event" (the retro styled one) had earned cosmetics (much more popular with the player base) and fits in with there idea that "the finals has become too cooperate and focused on sponsorships"

Where as the current (very obviously) Viiya sponsored event uses the less popular wheel, and has there branding on EVERYTHING.

what is the main lore of the game?

How short do you want it? The lore takes place in about the year 2100, where people spend most of their time in the digital/virtual world rather than the real world (real world is referred to as the “Meatspace”) and it is in this virtual VR world that The Finals takes place.

The Finals is the biggest virtual gameshow ever, where we (the contestants) compete for not only fame and fortune, but the favour of the sponsors who sponsor the game show. Scotty and June are the live commentators who commentate on the matches.

CNS is a mysterious hacker group, and while their exact objectives/desires are unknown, they’ve made it pretty clear that they’re trying to expose The Finals and its sponsors. And Vaiiya (a cyber security company), it’s their job to isolate CNS’s attacks and whatnot.

I feel like that was a fairly basic summary of the lore. If there’s anything I said wrong then please someone correct me. The lore in this game leaves so much room for speculation and theories and I love thinking about those sorts of things.

I know there probably isnt an answer but i’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts on how the contestants vr setups actually work. Do you guys think that its like a ready player one deal where they perform all the movements physically in the meatspace, or is it more of a cyberpunk BD situation where the whole body is essentially “wired in” and doesn’t physically move? Me personally I think its a more of a physical setup since if you look into the lights on some arenas at night you can see the glare of a vr headset on your character

For the same reason Duskbane ( I think that's his name ) from S4 tier 96 is seen in both Medium / Heavy builds.

It's somewhat evident that contestants have their preferred builds to play as but I'm sure in the real deal, if they have to swap then they absolutely will swap for a win.

Ariad is seen as a Heavy/Medium given the coverart of him holding a anti gravity cube though it should be noted that on special occasions, gadgets and specializations that would typically be locked to a certain build are definitely interchangeable when the game mode calls for it. So for all we know, Ariad could be holding the anti gravity cube as a Medium in the backstage for the pic to be taken.

Dede was previously seen with the M11 in the earliest trailer with her in it as well as an art piece in Official-Art and now mainly with the revolver as a Medium.

I think the next season will either be CNS' war with Ospuze, with Holtow ramping up a new cyber insurance coverage package (we know they're returning) or the game show will return to normal again, and thw CNS plot line won't be the main focus again until season 9 or 10

What if at one point MultiCo did control "The Finals" A.I. but it started going rogue. But Multico needed to cover it up so they secretly sponsored C.N.S. to either disable "The Finals" A.I. or be the scapegoat for when the system crashes. Probably covering up an embezzlement scheme or more nefarious virtual human testing. And Vaiya was pulled in as the Security/OpFor, This also increases 📈 through viewership which pulls in more sponsors which also pulls in more money for Multicos embezzlement.

Now, to be fair the only thing in the lore so far is that The Finals has a sort of A.I. director running it in the background. And C.N.S. is a rogue hacker group that caused Vaiya to be brought in. I was just spitballing ideas and this came to me at one point.
