Holtow team gets extra points for arena destruction, Volpe for running / using jumppads a lot, Ospuze for drinking using grenades with Ospuze skins etc

Or maybe it could be something like you get a certain skin from a sponsor at one point (Ospuze tattoo from contract, Holtow shoes from levels, Volpe gloves from battlepass, Iseul-T glasses from achievment, etc) and then by winning matched while weraing those items youll gain more sponsor points and in turns gain more item types as skins (Ospuze grenades, Volpe Jumppads, Vaiiya dome shield) which in addition to character cosmetics which give sponsor points on wins, will grant you sponsor points when uskng those items, and the cycle goes on untill you get ~6 sponsor cosmetics and ~3 sponsor item skins.

But of you ever switch sponsors, youll have to give up your items and start again

I sincerely don't get it beyond the fact that CNS presents it, the attackers and defenders are amongst the usual 16 teams of the other modes and they change constantly, so the only way to show support for either CNS or Vaiiya is through the cosmetics.

another take is: the cosmetics are actually just normal people clothes since CNS aren't giving corporation vibes and the audience is starting to like their antics. They're fighting agains the machine. sponsors clothing is actually hard to get since you'd need to be sponsored, CNS clothes are just casual street wear 😂 CNS aren't "good" as evidenced by Scoty and June's comment off air (can't remember what exactly they said) but content is king so introducing them as the sponsors of the attack and defend event keeps people engaged. I have a personal theory of mine compiling some of the newer cutscenes and possibly revealing CNS' motives.

this is one of the cutscenes from the beginning of season 2.

The main thing I'm focusing on is June (female commentator) referencing how the male announcer (Scotty) was a former contestant that became the announcer for reasons we don't know besides him being really good.

Specifically she says

"If they want to earn fame, they have to play the game; just like you Scotty."

It seems very odd that the devs/story makers are constantly telling us this detail, first as an achievement, then in some of the trailers, and now here.

And the reason why that's specifically important is that, literally days before season 2 launch, someone found a secret message behind a wall during a game

"S lies."

My theory is that "S" is referring to Scotty, and that he's lying about something, more specifically, he's lying about his career, maybe he "reached the finals" in a illegitimate way

1. scotty and june are praising CNS' creativity in the new game mode, which makes me think either they're changing their minds about CNS or are in an unofficial capacity supporting CNS for some reason (June's dialogue from the 2.4.0 intro makes me think she secretly supports CNS, while Scotty initially shows dislike/distrust towards them and is probably changing his mind about them since then)

2. someone earlier mentioned that CNS is a front for VAIIYA to show off their cybersecurity prowess but the new outfit makes me think that VAIIYA thinks CNS is trying to shut down the finals, while CNS (probably) is trying to get people to "wake up" or come back to reality and not necessarily shut it down (why else would they make a game mode and map)

I think there is definitely a story reason behind CNS trying to deliver these keys into terminals. Like the new mode is a gamified representation of CNS breaking into the game and Vaiiya keeping them out. Furthermore, I wonder if the concept of “Hacking” in The Finals is less of a person in the meatspace using a computer to hack in as hacking is traditionally shown, but rather CNS entering the game itself as contestants to hack the game- through these ciphers and terminals

I would be surprised if by the end of this event we are not shown a groundbreaking lore drop as a result of CNS delivering all of these keys and ciphers into the game

Even though Terminal Attack is a common game mode in various FPSs, CNS might've used this game mode as a way to extract data from the game itself.

If they just want to extract data, why won't they just do it themselves?

• VAIIYA has set security measures to not extract data that way.
• It might be considered a safer method to CNS to not get getting kicked from the system or destroy the game entirely (yet?).

Why are the contestants involved?

• There could be gullible players who only see this as a new game mode despite the obvious detail that the decryption key (and other Season 2 content) is an imported asset. A significant advantage for CNS.

Why SHOULD the contestants be involved?

• Again, CNS can't do it themselves.

Attack and defence is a gamemode made by CNS

Originally, it was intended for the circuit rewards to be unlocked with 'encryption keys' earned through completing the circuit objectives, but that was scrapped.

This may indicate that CNS is using this gamemode to try to decrypt the gameshow to gain more information on how to manipulate it further.

BOTH CNS and the security sponsor are relying on the contestants to see who triumphs.

It appears that the structure of the gamemode doesn't matter, as in the lore, the contestants choose which side they want to take.

From here onwards, it appears that CNS will win and reveal themselves in the next season. The next circuit shows what looks like a CNS agent...

Just thought about this one and I was wondering if someone else beat me to the punch: The entire show takes place in a distant dystopian future where AI have taken over the earth. THE FINALS is what the AI decide to do after getting bored from having everything under their control. The contestants are enslaved humans sent into the virtual worlds by being forced into VR. This acts as a form of torture for the human subjects and as entertainment for the AI. CNS is an underground group of human rebels who are trying to regain mankind's control on earth. They targeted THE FINALS because of its global reach and since it's where every remaining human is forced to serve for the AI's entertainment. CNS are the good guys that are trying to free the humans, and the name, CNS, refers to the central nervous system because of their goal to get humans to return to their senses.

BOTH CNS and the security sponsor are relying on the contestants to see who triumphs.

It appears that the structure of the gamemode doesn't matter, as in the lore, the contestants choose which side they want to take.

My reasoning for this is that in one lore video, we hear about Scotty actually drinking a can of Ospuse (which can just be a coincidence ofc)

But, now with this current update, we were given a new 'Throwing Knives' skin, the "Compact Cutters". This displays the throwing knives to be CD disks that you can throw at people (which is freakin cool af)

Written on these CDs though is "Scotty's Absolute Mix" with the Ospuse title being displayed towards the upper left

From the game's soundtrack, only two songs have names taken from brands: (You Wouldn't Be Here) Without Us & Let It Breathe
those are VOLPE and OSPUZE respectively, both brands likely having a ton of influence on the game. VOLPE is likely the people who design our gear while OSPUZE in general just have a LOT of influence in the game relative to the other brands
as for CNS, something tells me they're not purely a rogue force, there's no way the in-universe devs would allow blatant and intrusive hacking in the game without their say. CNS is either purely played up for the theatrics or they're aproved to do what they want by the in-universe devs. Maybe once we get some lore of them negatively affecting the game it'll be more clear, but for now im guessing they've got a stricter leash than they think they do.

I have a headcanon that because of the CNS hack in season 2, both Holtow and Volpe dropped out as sponsors because their stock prices went down.

Volpe was responsible for the tech and Holtow's whole thing was virtual insurance and when that got compromised, their shareholders were not happy.

Vaiiya probably came in because they're kind of similar to Holtow? Holtow's slogan is "HOLTOW. Digitally insured, virtually secured" and that sort of rings true with cybersecurity.

Vaiiya replaces Holtow and Ospuze went in either because Embark doesn't want to introduce a new sponsor or Ospuze is already a long time trusted partner of the Finals.
