Certain encodings of GIF/video will reuse identical parts from the previous frame. If you're looking frame by frame I think it's a bit misleading to ignore those reused parts.

I just want to note bit planes are distinct from thresholding. You can see this on the bit planes for the single color.
It transitions from white to black to white to black again (in order of increasing bit significance) despite being a single color.
Whereas if you were to do a threshold on a single color at some point it changes from white to black and can't change after that.
