I preferred 'em because you kinda' had to make your messages count. While not entirely, there was a bit less "rattling off" IMO. It forced people to complete a thought and pause. Not saying that's not possible on Discord, it's just that Discord kind of encourages the opposite. But then again, IM chat services were always available, so Discord, in practice, has existed for a very long time. Both instant chatting and forums are just different beasts.
