If bullet doesnt pen and your br class is higher than the bullet pen value you by default take 40% less damage, calculated ontop of your ballistic resistance
the rework makes it so that 40% mitigation for non pen bullets can be increased with plates, pelts, artifacts etc so you can become quite tanky with heavy, bulky armors and plates and such, without having to farm artis for getting 90% flat ballistic resistance in order to be tanky

and the armor rebalance also touches on that, so heavy, slow armors with few slots: very tanky by default (for those who wants to use plates and not bother with artis)
faster, high slot armors with lower base stats: relies on you stacking ballistic res artifacts to become tanky like before.
either way, the old way of stacking ballistic res % will still be the best, but the rework allows people to feel tanky with their heavy combat armors

To recruit random stalkers as companions:

1. Talk to the leader of the squad.
2. The size of the squad must be within your limit (by default you can't have more than one companion at the time).
3. Your rank value must be at least 1.5 times higher than that of the squad leader.
4. Squad leader must consider you friendly (depends on your rank, reputation, faction relations and more).

Requirements 3 and 4 don't apply to paid companions, but they are rarer overall and can only be found among Loners, Bandits, Mercenaries and Freedom.
If you wish to be able to recruit more stalkers, in-game, open Mod Configuration Menu > Custom Companion Squad Size, and drag the sliders found within to the right.

If you want to keep Beef's NVG mod and have it working without the need for SSAO (otherwise nightvision is dark and doesn't work proper)
For this you don't enable No BNVG FDDA Redone Patch btw, instead do this:

Reinstall: (Right click mod > reinstall mod in mo2)
Beef's NVG to include Beefs NVG and Beefs NVG ES no SSR modules
