If you're early in the story then you just explore and he'll sometimes just say he's found another artifact or you'll just stumble across another facility. If you're super stuck then it's best to just Google stuff. Like new areas to explore. The story isn't perfectly linear so it's based on you playing and exploring essentially. What I did was just keep making things then he'll be like I've found this and found that

There is a trick to get spiral plant clipping: you can find synthetic fibers from mercury 2 wrecks, and iirc also from phi excavation site. Put it through recyclotron to get spiral plant clipping and then put it in growbed to start a farm.

The PDA is just as important to read, don't mind the large swimming fish with fins too much they are more annoying than dangerous. Also the game is best enjoyed if you think of it as a separate experience than the first. You have some of the same gameplay and a tad of the story from the first game, but it's a very different experience.

If you try to compare the first and second game in other words as far as gameplay you will be disappointed.

@smoky mauve actually my theory is that in the area Ryley landed in on planet 4546B was warm waters because of the vocanic area below, these waters are the breeding grounds for the kharaa so thats how it spreads. the only crature inflicted with kharaa in the frozen area of 4546B where Robin lands is the FL, the fact that it still has the pustuals means its alive but im still digging into that, but the cold would kill the kharaa slowing infection. we see Ryley's ship says its goint towards thenearest phase gate, the nearest one is ON the planet. i beleive the person at the start of BZ who is transporting robin will become worried and go to the only known survivor (ryley) and go onto 4546B to investigate as well which will be subnautica 2, sorry for my nerd moment but its a theory i have had for a while

My lore can also exist with that! Sea dragons witch eggs can not be infected to khara and sea dragons eat baby reapers. So possibly this happends in real life reapers will get angry and sabatoge the ones who ate there eggs possibly sneaking past sea dragons and eating a few of there eggs getting a amount of resitantce from khara this was the same one marugiret captured witch then woke up and attacked them dragging her she killed it and ate it and due to the khara resitance the infection couldnt move on

So Marg has Khara but a much lower level in her witch is being held in a cage of are anti bacterial cells dormant

it is a fun game but it pales in comparison to S1. BZ offers better graphics and a more streamlined subnautica experience at the cost of the story and map size as well as some empty/unfinished biomes. The predecessor certainly has issues but they are more in the bugs rather then the story and content size. BZ is at best a short novelty for those who liked S1

The map size of subnautica may be bigger but it's a lot less full in the first game. The story of below zero is a lot bigger and imo better if you seek out the elements. Finding out what happened to Sam and the mercury crew was very fun. ALAN was the main story and he was quite fun. The conversations between him and Robin were all very entertaining

And the biomes are not empty, especially in comparison to biomes like the crag fields in the first game. Each biome has great base spots, lots of fun details and its own unique biome

||the jellyfish biome is clearly unfinished or its uninspired. and the underwater anemone shooter things was extremely empty with the only interesting creature there being another squidshark. I'd even argue the crystal caves don't feel right because of the crampedness and the giant leviathans that glitch through the walls. The lava biome was at least large enough to house the sea dragon. The biomes in subnautica 1 are a lot more finished in this regard as they had fauna that looked specialized for their respective biomes. The story is only as interesting as when there are no plot holes. The voiced playable character and alan ruin immersion quite a bit which is an important part to subnautica 1's success||

Yeah, I started playing bz first, and I like the idea of a character that actually talks throughout the game. The first game is like (I just started the first game so it may be a bit off) barely any dialogue, while bz has a ton of it. As of right now I like the story of below zero more than first game, but like I think they should have connected more plot points from both games, like ||how Sam made the antidote for the Kharra Bacteria|| even though ||it required an enzyme in the first game to get rid of it||. Both games are fun in their own way though.

Just explore the shallow areas and make your basic tools, that’s a good start. You’ll want your basic resources. Put your tools away in the creepvine forests or a special little creature might steal them (don’t worry, they’ll eventually not steal later on but don’t want to spoil, just don’t be mean and kill them they don’t mean any harm). You should start looking for some fragments once you get a scanner. It’s best if you explore at your own pace without a lot of help
