it’s an option that everyone seemed to default to when people ask how to handle a leviathan, I was looking for tips for one in Below Zero and 99% of the advice was how to kill one

BZ was hated because people wanted SN 1 experience again. The same one, with big ocean, big biomes and the terror. I played BZ before SN 1 (I have watched it million times tho) so I had no such expectations (I actually believe that's the way to enjoy it fully, just play BZ first, then SN1). I really enjoyed the game, the diversity of the biomes (even tho they were small) and the land segments (frozen leviathan cave absolute cinema). I believe both games are amazing. But it's good that the BZ have been released. It is still an breathtaking experience even tho different than SN1. It was a great expansion to the universe lore.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!! I think both games do different aspects amazingly, and Sub2 really does feel like devs are pulling all the things people loved from both and heh, fusing them! BZ is good training wheels for how much more open Sub1 is and gives you a more linear path to follow so it’s a little easier to see everything + get to the ending. Sub1 truly is f around and find out until the lore slowly starts pulling you deeper and makes you push yourself to learn more. Really loving how authentic all the colonists feel in Sub2, adore Ms Butcher Boucher with all my heart.

BZ's original story was scrapped like, a few patches before release if I remember correctly. Since the original map was designed for a whole another map, the story we got in its place is disjointed and riddled with plotholes. I can't even blame anyone for this. It's not easy to rewrite your entire story for an already completed map. And even then, they had to remake the land parts.
