I don't really think this is the same thing. S6 is not a massive company and this is their first project. Marketing releases for games do sometimes mention other similar games in order to tell potential buyers what kind of game it will be. This is doubly true in this case as Palia is striving to be something significantly different than the other games in its genre (MMO) and needs to reach to other genres to find similarity. Which is the most important part, I think, because they aren't saying "This is like Stardew Valley!" (it isn't) but rather "This has Stardew Valley vibes" which is important to reach the kind of player they want to reach.

So yeah, regarding PvP - people will end up finding ways to be competitive with each other, even if it's not implicitly built into the game's DNA. I'd just like this to be a game where we do that without causing physical harm to each other

Pet Competition

End I think the biggest difference for Palia is that it is described as a comfy cozy community MMO - it's supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable and low stress inducing. So there won't be pvp and fighting in a traditional sense, if the community gets together and organizes competitions for things like cooking or fishing ECT it may be competitive but not in the sense of hey I need to prove I'm better than everyone else here and more of hey let's do this fun thing together.

Palia isn't going to be for everyone, however those people who are used to mmos being high competition and fighting and all of that this game won't be for them - it's not going to be something they enjoy because they expect an MMO to have x, y, and z. Singularity Six is trying to create something new and in my opinion are doing amazing at that. The kind of people who will see MMO and have the expectations that they have all the normal elements of an MMO may be disappointed because that's not the goal or base of this game. Palia is first and foremost about the community, and the story they are trying to tell. It's about having a home to go to and create memories and adventure with friends you make along the way.

We can create fun competitions and games and stuff to do, or S6 may host fun events who knows - but fighting and PvP aren't going to be things we see and if we do it will be in an optional format that doesn't detract from the overall gameplay for everyone who doesn't want to do PvP

I personally plan to host community things every week for the general community, as well as events for just my neighborhood ( the Queendom of L'asëa )

I think the key, economy-wise, is to have stuff that's worthwhile to spend money on to take it out of circulation. Most MMOs end up with inflated economies because there's nowhere for that money to actually go

I think Palia will have less of an issue with weak craftable gear, if only because the adventuring combat loop isn;t the same. Its, theoretically, less about how good the stats are on a hat and more 'Is this a cool hat.'

Which reminds me. I need to find a fish seller and buy 1mil gems worth of fish 😒 We're close to levelling and I always donate 1mil gems to help ease the burden of clan levelling. It's a huge in-game money sink and the less members have to worry about wasting money, the more they can focus of gaining exp and having fun.

With clan levelling we get boosts like extra gems selling fish, reduces tree grow time, access to clan clothing items... That's why I think it would be awesome to have a way to level the neighborhoods in Palia and have rewards to incentivize working together and stuff.

Okok so, hear me out. Fish have heath bars k? You throw your line in the water, get a bite, click and a battle begins. But its a simple enough minigame so its not difficult for anyone. Theres a circle with a dot that gets bigger and smaller. you wait until the dot fills the circle and click. The closer you are to filling it, the more damage you do by pulling. Get the health to 0 and you catch the fish.

the fish bite back, chances of losing fish is increased by x%
if fish wins, fish gets to toss a bone at you
human (score) -1 | fish (score) 20

Okok, they regain health, all the more important to be good at clicking when the circle is full. It's a skill that can be learned easily enough. You just have to deal more damage than it heals. It's a small battle of stamina. Plus, if you lose and it tosses you a bone, maybe its a consolation prize and can be used to craft an item.

The bigger the fish, the more health/faster it heals. With a basic rod you might not* be able to catch the bigger fish, requiring you to upgrade to continue catching bigger *fish
