Progression can be a challenge, I imagine a bit of Palias gameplay loop with be similar to a farming sim where you gotta up your skills to be more proficient or access new materials.
I like the idea of puzzles but I’m not sure if they’ve said anything that would allude to puzzles being a focus.
I wonder what other non pvp and non stressful challenges they could add to the game.

puzzles are likely one of the things you can do for 'action' they have said there are actiony things around that might not be combat orientated. [S6] Bourbon — 06/06/2021 Chappa Kai - Hunting is the most action-oriented skill in the pre-alpha. But you are right - it's NOT combat. We have some really exciting plans in the "action" space for this game, but I can't tell you anything about them right now. Your patience is appreciated here.

Having said that, we do believe that there are some competitive play opportunities that can make sense in our world, in large part because they’re the kind of light hearted competitive experiences we expect to find amongst family or close friends. A Sunday afternoon card game can be cozy. Racing on the beach can still feel like vacation.

As someone who has dabbled in game dev myself and generally works with even amateur devs, I personally want to stress the word should. It sounds like Amelia expects to be able to deliver something towards the end of this week, but is not sure about that.

You never know what's going to crop up when it comes to dev work. There's a schrodinger's-cat-in-a-box level of infinite roadblocks in your way.

Will we be able to do any meaningful progression by ourselves or will quests / progression usually require us to team up with other players?

Our goal with Palia is for it to be fun solo and even better together. As such, we think it’s critically important to always have meaningful things you can do in the game when playing solo, whether it’s because you’re waiting for friends to come online or it’s your preferred way to enjoy the game. That being said, there will also be activities that either require or are significantly more manageable when done with others.

For the larger scale tests like when they decide to do alpha and beta, unsure, I'd assume they'd use the same again so no need

They haven't announced When these phases will be, my guess it's too early too announce

pre-alpha has only been going for about 2 months and I'd expect a couple months per phase and inbetween phases

It's interesting to me having been hooked on online gaming before achievements and unlocks were really a thing. You played the game because it was fun, not because it offered some long term incentive to play. There wasn't an expectation that a game would have a life spanning 10 years or more

It is still in pre-alpha. Most games like this take 5-6 years to develop, and Palia has only been in development for 3 years.
