It was brought up here, so I wanted to address it here. It's just interesting to me when people think that it's "overreacting" to get upset about "a color", but they're defensive enough, and sensitive enough to the point that they can't respect gender pronouns. They just have to put a foot down.

It's backwards logic, and I think it needs to be addressed here since this is an ongoing problem.

I don't view anyone as a troll for disagreeing with me, but if we disagree and someone's immediate reaction is to block me because I brought up a point about people disrespecting gender pronouns... that's a little upsetting to me, personally. It seems like this is a bigger problem, and when we're trying to create a community that's accepting and loving... our actions sometimes contradict that.

Hello my name is Wippit and I'm a non-alpha spouse. It has been 64 days since pre-alpha took my wife. 64 days, that's like a full stack of days if this was Minecraft. Probably only worth a single block of dirt if I tried to trade them to a villager.

I keep getting a feeling of antici-

-pation about the game, and it's driving me nuts. Because my head tells me nothing is going to happen, we've still got a long wait of less than 3 years before anything big happens. Yes, there is pre-alpha, but that's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Just the momentary zot of a fly hitting a bug zapper.

But my heart keeps beating my head with a baseball bat. My heart sees a huge list of developers and thinks, "they'll say something today, I know it." And they don't. And head takes the bat and smacks heart. And heart just says, "ok, but tomorrow!" And it just keeps repeating! And driving my INSANE!!!

... you know, a block of dirt isn't useless if it was a Skyblock map.

I can see the popularity of minecraft .. I've seen my brother's set up and its an engineering marvel .. I just don't like the blockiness of it .. however, I can sit for hours ( until the battery almost dies ) playing a 2D version (alternative) of factorio on my phone rofl.

The graphics tend to be the big turn off for people. My cousin just recently started playing and loves it. Her reservations were the graphics, and that the way the game was portrayed online and on YouTube made it seem like it was only for little kids to her.
She also has interest in Palia but I don’t think she’s popped by here yet.

Power via windmills, cables to connect everything.. batteries.. machines to make life simplier... I remember going a couple hours away to view the eclipse with my class. It was so weird watching everything slowly darken and get cold as night. All the birds and day-animals got quiet, and once the sun was shown again, I even saw some bats flying by.

I've never been lucky enough to get into these kinds of tests. though I've done some more boring type Q&A for some of a friend's Minecraft coding.

But I hope it's not too much like beta-reading books. When beta-reading an unreleased book you kinda lose out on the discovery/reveal in it's final, polished form so you don't get quite the same wonder and sparkle as the release crowd.

It is a huge temptation to want "to scratch that itch" a little early though, and have insight into how the game changed/developed from it's earlier builds.

I've been able to alpha and beta for a few different games in different stages, but none of them have had such an involved staff. Then again, this was pre-discord business model days. Yeah, I don't envy current-day devs! The poor Hytale team ended up taking a lot heat from people when they pushed back their release estimate. All this fan involvement can breed expectation, which eventually can turn into entitlement...

It's something anyone can fall prey to when coping with disappointments.

I wonder what the benefits of this kind of community strategy are. Maybe it creates a place where memes or something might go viral, I feel like exposure is so important now that TV ads and boxed retail store sales aren't a thinkg...

It really is a mixed bag. I detest the entitled fan/consumer, as we've seen with CP2077 and Hytale. Existential factors notwithstanding to a delay in release (especially in the last couple years), demanding your cake be served sooner then get mad because you got salmonella is some peak smooth-brain.
On the other side, having the passionate fans that communicate in feedback honestly and earnestly, and having more niche feedback gathered, can be done far easier with this more modern method.

True, and I imagine, in the beginning, for a small indy group like Hytale having our encouragements and enthusiasm helped. Working on games is... brutal work.

I'm actually really excited Palia has so many veterans on it!

Some of the best stuff is made by veterans who finally break off with their career experience to do something they love and in their own time.

Same thing with Stoic Studios and Banner Saga, which is the only other indie game I worked with during the earlier processes. Studios with veterans who know their craft, have cut their teeth on the pipeline, and then can apply their experience to a passion project. Seeing the concept ideations in the #🌠│official-art art channel gave me warm fuzzies, and Kenyatta is already a personal favorite because of that whole sheet of hers.
I look forward to seeing what systems we can play with in chunks through the various play phases, though I can guarantee I'll be spending a lot of time fawning over the animals

as far as one could tell, they'd most likely either go a buy2play route or one with microtransactions as they said they are very much so planning to port Palia to mobile devices. Albeit a lot of people would prefer a sub for the game, there is basically not a single mobile game with a subscription that is at the top of the charts or anywhere close to them.
