That's the thing, it's all in the perception of grind. A good game manages to make you forget you're grinding and immerses you in the moment and the game world.

I think so long as Palia's minigames are sufficiently engaging and the world feels immersive, nothing will really feel like a chore

I think we won't really have a problem with that because other games entice you with an incremental increase of power, which they have to somehow gate, but Palia drops that sort of pretense for just finding what you enjoy doing and doing it.
I think at most we might have several steps to getting various things just to give us a reason to connect with each other, but I'm just speculating.

It is not really the same. First PS2, or a PS5 now, is a different machine. For PC there should be one way of playing the game, by logging in through the games login screen. If they start using third party users they would fast come in conflict with those who do not use the third party software. For me, that means I will not buy New World since it is by steam only (from what I read). But if the game had made their own loginscreen at the same time they made the game, they would have earned another 50-60 dollar and monthly subscription. That is how I ended up with Palia. First I thought about New World. When that did not turn out I looked elsewhere and I found this little gem. So I really really hope they do not ruin it by not creating their own login screen. It is after all not that difficult.....

Well if it only was for the login via stam i would agree, but often there is the so called steamworks behind the games, managing the whole networking, matchmaking etc. for that specific game, another login screen wouldn't cut the ropes with steam there. So there is not only the Platform "PC", different Launchers give different plattforms and/or benefits to the developers or just the Publishers for Reach~

Personally I don't see the point of running a third party program just to play a game I like.
I'm still salty about the Sims forcing me to download bloody Origin to play an offline game.

I have a bunch of different launchers for different games, my biggest problem is remembering to disable them on startup so they don't bog down my computer. I'd be fine with w/e launcher / platform they use.

Mmmmmmmost are unobtrusive. Steam as a third party launcher can often be overridden by removing the steam_api.dll from the game's directory and doing some small faffing with the config, as long as the game itself does not incorporate Steam features like your friends list, Steamplay features, etc..

Well, take the Sims example. I started playing the Sims with a physical copy I bought at a shop.
I got steam. Steam had expansions for the Sims, but I couldn't buy them because I hadn't bought the base game on their platform.
It's convenient for some. All good.
But every time I want to play the Sims now, I first have to update Origin, then put my settings the way I want them because, despite repeatedly ticking the box to not shove their window in my face if I close the game I'm actually playing, it doesn't work.
I don't need to be drowning in ads and promos. I go looking for that stuff on my own. I just want to play my game.
And baby my game is gunna be Palia! lol

There's a lot of people playing mmorpgs not in the 'expected' way. In XIV, I played as a crafter/gatherer/glam/housing main. Combat content just gated the content I wanted to do. also don't like the idea of being the "chosen hero" in these games.
Just want to be free to be a wandering merchant or something and not have progress gated by combat. A lot of my XIV friends are like that. I feel, lots of players playing these mmorpgs right now would migrate to Palia.

RoR is pretty good. It's an old mmo warts and all and I found myself swamped with complex mechanics and went bankrupt dyeing my gear to look like how I used to paint my night goblins back in the day.
Has really nice PvP things such as a healing and damage target and not being able to move through enemy players.

Yes. To me Palia seems to be 95% relaxation / 5% action With the percentages a bit flexible. Whereas most games are 95% action / 5% relaxation. So, maybe Palias main player base will be what the other games steer away. massivley multiplayer and open-world explains itself really. play with other people and explore the world around you. imo thats the most compelling selling point of mmos, the idea that you can control your own character and do whatever you want

Think about it, why do people love the old wow, it was the pain of the grind, its how you really learn about and area and the player base. if there is no grind there is no real interaction until end game, if there is no grind that NPC at level 20 is a passing memory. Grinds slow us down so we are forced to experience what the devs have created.

I imagine it's tough to answer some of the questions because there's so much S6 hasn't finalized.

Pre-alpha is superheaps early in the development stages of a game, so a lot of the questions they're getting now must feel like that part of the interview where they go 'Great and where do you see yourself in 5 years?' and you're sitting there like 'Uh.. working here?' but in your heart you know they want specifics and you can't predict the future but they're waiting.

There has been at least 2 similar naming coincidences with the villagers so you never know. Einar the fishing golem is also the name of a fishing vessel. Kenyatta frequents the stables and Zenyatta is the name of a racehorse.

If possible, I always pick Carpenter / Woodworker as my Main-Profession in MMOs ➡️ Tish is a Carpenter. I love Flowers / Nature / Forests ➡️ Tish wears a Flower in her hair.
