When I play games I tend to wait it out a bit and then join an "underdog" guild in order to help take out the "big bad" of the server, but somehow I don't think that's going to be a viable strategy for Palia lol

It's honestly just a desire of community I believe. Off-topic channel is more barren so even though everyone in the discord can be there, it feels like it has less of a connection to the community.

I dont think conversation can happen naturally when a channel is categorized as a specific topic. It makes me feel limited and that if I stray from the topic at hand a mod will come and tell me off. I feel the best way to make people feel comfortable is to have as little text channels as possible, and as much freedom as possible, the freedom to stray off-topic once in awhile without having to go out of my way to another channel where its not gauranteed others will follow

It's a difficult thing. From the Devs point of view you want your channels as focused as possible. Makes it also easier to read for the Devs what people are talking about about your Game. From a User Point of View you prefer a bit more freedom so you can let one Topic organically flow into another without breaking the Discord Rules or having to go somewhere else, because that also requires everyone involved in the discussion to be willing to follow you there too.

What you say can happen in a small channel, in big channel a lot of people may talk about different topic in the same channel and its a mess to read and follow

I think it's also important to understand the flow of how Discords and communities evolve as well. When there isn't a "general" chat that is listed has a higher priority(higher on the list), the game channel will eventually turn into that. So it's just something they can review and adjust as needed.

And Id like to add that even though off-topic is such a broad topic...Its precise enough to be slightly intimidating, since it cuts out the main reason you are here in the server in the first place

The way I see it is that if something is against the rules that you all agreed to follow within the community, telling someone to calm down is fine. If it's something that doesn't go against the rules but is making people uncomfortable for some reason or another, then just don't be rude about it and people usually are willing to just not do it anymore

I think it would be best if they split out a General & Palia chat. There is a common misconception that the level of activity in the 'most popular' chat reflects what everyone wants to talk about. You always have to remember the number of people not joining in the chat tends to far outweighs those engaging in the current topic. I find myself flicking between here & suggestions just so i can discuss Palia.

Ugh... that's a though question... i really liked Fishing in Final Fantasy 11 where you had to fight against the Fish by pulling the Rod into the opposite Direction of the Fish and wear them out. And man did that become insane with Legendary Fishes. There's a certain one i never was able to fish up because it was just to fast for me. But i like the Challenge. Made me really feel like it's Me vs. the Fish and i felt a bit proud whenever i was able to reel in one of the harder ones.

That's similar to fishing in sea of thieves! Except that your ship is moving/turning the entire time and you have to account for that as well. But yes FF11 did a lot of amazing things with its novel mechanics and I spent way too much time trying to catch the legendaries as well haha

If i remember correctly, Final Fantasy 11 at least had the different Rods thing. There were wooden rods, which were more flexible, and Synthetic Rods (like Carbon) which had higher endurance. So as long as you didn't have one of the Legendary Rods, it was indeed advised to take different Rods for different Fish. And yeah, of course there was tons of different Bait and Tackles too. But it is a long time since i played FF11... so i could remember it wrong.

Yeah, i like Gathering in FF14. Seeing all the buzz in one Place with people running around and not having to compete over the Spots. I think in Final Fantasy 11 you actually had to do just that and it was tiring.
