Basically my playstyle. Played it in S4 League too. Vindictus's Vella has dual curved swords and chain blades, perfect bladedancer. There's also a Bladedancer class in Eden Eternal. And of course plenty of games with whipblades 🙂

There'll obviously be mobs, that doesn't mean we'll be able to attack them. Although... it would be interesting if instead of actual combat, we instead "hunted" them by tracking and maybe using specific equipment, like RuneScape's Hunter and Slayer skills mixed.

Witchcraft is basically ritualistic magic. You prepare an area, add in specific items, make sure to do things at the right time, etc. The point is to create "enchantments" of some kind. Blessings, curses, whatever. In games, this can result in things like travelling between dimensions.

Wizardry is more based on creating an immediate effect through a simple action, even though it still requires some basic tools and a lot of mana.

Witchcraft requests a response from the universe. Wizardry makes things happen out of nowhere. The former is asked, the latter is forced.

In that way, wizardry is less ethical. Wizards don't ask permission, witches do.

Well, to be fair, some witches make "pacts" with beings to do magic for them, rather than requesting the "universe" they request the one they made a pact with. This is done in DnD with the Warlock class, and to be fair most warlocks make pacts, with terrible beings, which is why warlock means "bad mage". But witches usually make pacts with nature spirits instead.

The idea of witches making pacts with evil beings is nonsense, it was warlocks that did that.

Here's my guess on where all of the humans went. We "mastered magic" but there was a mistake or explosion that destroyed or transport portals and pulled us all in. We've been trapped in the portals or another land ever since and only now have somehow gotten back. I'm basing this off of what looks like a few rune covered rings that show up in the trailer and in the other website pictures. The one is sticking up out of the ground with small chunks of it floating in mid air above the end and covered in plants.

actually, I'd say RS is more realistic than most places. all trees are choppable, yet they manage to put them together and beside each other in a way that doesn't feel forced. roads aren't straight, and there's lots of elevation differences, hills, etc.

Yeah Ascension uses a more modern WoW client but with Classic/TBC maps and some custom add ons to do the spell/talent picking etc

IMO the best thing they could do, to focus on the open world, is make it so that they have the base game free, then every extra region is an expansion, and there's world barriers that aren't seen from a distance but are noticable up close that divide the regions.

kind of like Wizard/Pirate101 in that you pay for areas. BUT there's an option to sub, and while subbing you get access to all regions while subbed; but you can also choose to buy each region individually, and have permanent access.

Anastasia, you do realize that open world doesn't mean the entire world is loaded at once right? Areas load based on relative distance to them, and areas you can teleport to are somewhat preloaded.

You can still divide areas and only have them load relative to the player if that player has access to them.

There are actually very nice solution by resolving the entire game into 16kb packages, >>pretending<< that everything is loaded in memory and then creating a loading tree from that, and the packages are then intelligently loaded from the disc. By doing this loading screens can be avoided, since you let a algorithm preload packages on the "likeliness" of being needed.

RuneScape technically preloaded, but I think the first game I ever played where I would consider the preloading "seamless" (though there were a few loading screens) was Earth Eternal. But the way it handled loading was impressive for its day.

It's not a golden bullet though, for example it increases CPU requirements, so you won't be able to play as well with older gen CPU's as you've been used to
