Games in general tend to get toxic, no matter what type of game it is, people will find a way to be toxic. Even if it's purely pve singleplayer games, people can still be toxic towards you because of a number of factors like the builds that you're going for, the way you play to game etc.

I'll use GW2 as an example. When they first started, the game had personal loot, gathering nodes are tied to each account, and anyone can tag any mob that they want for credit.

WoW started with shared group loot, server gathering nodes, and group only tagging.

They moved away from their old ways with WoW, and the toxic behavior died down a tad.

If you want to find a community of "tryhards" you can find those too. But I've never gone into a game and just had a completely toxic experience from minute 1 when interacting with the community

I love playing custom 5v5s! It gets kinda toxic sometimes but I believe it's the healthy kind of toxic, people let out some steam by flaming each other but it's more like friendly banter that isn't taken seriously.

I used to pay Mabinogi when I was younger, but I never really got too far. It was kind of odd, as most people seemed to enjoy the social aspect more than the progression.

I bought a crab pet from the cash shop that could put other players inside of bubbles and have them float around. Was pretty cool.

Well, the thing about RuneScape 2 (now there's RuneScape 3, but OSRS is similar to RS2), Mabinogi, and Free Realms, was that they were all Fantasy Life - which means they had life/social skills like Agility, Music, Racing, etc. The point wasn't to get strong. And non-linear meant you could do what you wanted without being forced to do a main storyline (in Mabinogi, there was one, but you could do it out of order and it was optional).

@eternal temple There don't seem to be good videos on it. basically, it was the kind where the line moved across a bar, and you had to hit the key within the highlighted area, BUT there was also a golden highlighted area (I think, it's been a while) that would get a critical fishing result, yet it also allowed for an auto fishing thing too. So manual was better than auto, and being great at manual got you the best results. There were also actual fishing competitions with rewards 🙂

Fishing rod is interesting weapon. You can use it like a whip, and also like a melee staff, and "hook" people, letting you pull them around.
