No, I don't care if it's in beta or not. It should stay in beta for a while longer. I was extremely concerned when they announced a Switch release so early, because it wasn't ready for it, especially with the longer patch cycles that Nintendo requires. And we can see that already affecting things.

What we keep saying over and over is that the issue is false advertising. The game is in beta, the storefronts need to be clear about that, the launch pages on all versions need to be clear about it, but they're not. And it's not a good look.

I know it’s a bit rushed for it to suddenly be on console while in beta, but it’s kind of a good thing because it means they’re working on the code that makes it truly cross platform. Coding takes a lot of time and hard work and I think it’s worth giving them the benefit of the doubt. If they say they’re working on something and they’re trying to implement new things for the player base, I’d like to give them the space to do it while enjoying what I can about what’s already in front of us

If you make one thing accessible, if the code isnt PERFECT it can break other aspects of the game. Even more complicated being cross platform

Accessibility updates take a lot more into consideration than simply tweaking a few UI layouts.

idk if you guys know anything about programming or game development, but I know enough about programming to know that the amount of coding and fixing stuff you need for a single small thing is . Quite insane.

You gotta find where the problem is, where you need to yank something else to make something completely different work, and test-run over and over and over.
When it comes to accessibility, I feel I lack information enough about what would be upsetting for players with need of such an update, but I also want to say -- They seem to want this game to be available for anyone. I can only imagine that they might be working on it, but working on such a thing might take quite some time... Which sucks !! And I can not even imagine the frustration it is for such players who needs it.

But it takes... so much time to fix coding into what would actually be good for players with need of accessibility.

Oh this "Accessibility" thing... I am all in favor of "reasonable accommodations". I just took $35,000 out of my operating budget this year to have a section of pavement removed, the ground lowered slightly, and access ramp added to the club patio so that our guests and members who are physically disabled, do not have to go all the way around the outbuilidng, but can enter right next to the handicapped parking spaces.

Tell me I need to allocate another $250,000 to have ceiling-mounted chair-lifts installed for them, I'm going to tell you that is NOT a "resonable accommodation".

As for where software is concerned....

The very first part of that starts with the user. If you don't have the kind of setup and equipment that enables you to access software, whatever that software is, it is not a "resonable accommodation" to demand the developers to reinvent the wheel for you. If you suffer motion sickness staring at a screen, you probably should spend so much time staring at a screen. If you're color-blind, you can adjust your display to compensate if it is critical. Gaming is never going to be critical.

You freak out because you heard a digital representation make a "chewing" sound, seek out a mental health professional.

There is a huge difference between "accommodating" and "self-entitled".

I don’t really think that saying something is free to play is really blasting someone for having an opinion. I understand that it may seem like someone is disregarding your opinion when they say that, but it’s truthfully just part of why the person has the difference in opinion and not an attack. I was tearing up silver yesterday - average of 3 per ore. Also absolutely slaughtered Kilima's copper last night AND sorted the spawns, so everything would respawn if you followed the outermost "wall" from the player house plot, all the way around, then moved (literally) to the other side of the path, and followed those edges. By the time you finished a full lap, the nodes near the player home were spawning again. Was pulling in around 300 copper each pass. Finally ran out of smelters to put it in and called it a good night.

Would love to sort Bahari, but that's a pipe-dream at best.. never see it inactive enough to pull a sort-sweep. Someone would break something in the 'wrong" place, and throw it off again

• I can pick them up and place them again anywhere

Crafting games are where you gather stuff, to craft something to help you gather other stuff and then help you gather more and build your house, base or whatever. Here we get a limited amount of rooms and no option to really build our stuff. It's kind of a farming game, but really limited. Cause plots are fixed to 9. No animals to raise. All this game really has for now is story tbh. They can even release some random generated dungeon for us to go fight and gather stuff. This could be engaging. All they need to do is add som mellee weapons too and a way to take dmg and stuff.

But shooting everything and having it just run is really boring. Not to mention we're in a alternate dimention world where they have a crime syndicate ... literally makes no sense to have no combat at all

The developers need to fix what's broken right now, before they set loose with all of the other things, because we all know that coding likes to break things as soon as a new patch is released

Combat in Palia

Many people have asked if Palia will have combat. While Palia won’t be entirely free of conflict, combat isn’t the core of the focus. Over time, we’ll have combat-like adventures, but players will be able to opt out of those experiences. And that combat won’t involve players fighting other players.

We want players to know that they exist in a low-pressure world largely devoid of physical, social, and emotional threats. As such, we feel that player versus player (PVP) combat is antithetical to our core experiential goals.

Having said that, we do believe that there are some competitive play opportunities that can make sense in our world, in large part because they’re the kind of light-hearted experiences we expect to find amongst family or close friends. A Sunday afternoon card game can be cozy. Racing on the beach can still feel like vacation.

Additionally, many of our core systems roll up quite naturally into an option for a little competitive play. We know we’ve spent a lot of time with our families watching cooking competitions, and those skills in Palia could make for fun gameplay opportunities.

The thing that will remain consistently true is that competition is not our core; any competitive options we add will not impinge on the core game experience, and we will strive not to tempt you into engagement with their rewards.

I've had this discussion before, and I've had people post the Official Line multiple times... I'm envisioning something along the lines of... you're probably not fighting whatever monster or whatever directly, but indirectly. For example, if they add a magic system, we might use that magic to telekenitically move boulders to block "it" out of an area, maybe magic up a portal to suck it into the Void or something - where players would be able to work together to move rocks around faster, or into strategic positions, while others "power up" the portal and it all takes place over a period of time - think Chaapa Chase.

We don't "die" in battle, nor do these hostile forces actually DO anything, except to occupy a spot on the map until driven off/flushed down the drain into The Void, or wherever defeated enemies go.

It's more about the team-work and strategic cooperation that swordsmanship and spell-slinging.

Is there seriously not an easy way to move around your housing? I had my house set for months now, and decided with spring coming, I just wanted to redo the layout/floorplan. BUT, in order to move as you all know, you have to attach a room to another just to juggle around till you get it right. Can I offer a suggestion? While we have "H" housing open, that we can separate all the rooms out so we can design the floorplan that we want without having everything coming off the wall, if I want to add a hallway or a room in between two other established rooms, that I can! Without having to attach this to that, and that room to this room, just to get the original room attach to the other room that I set out to do.... and without my bags filling up with all the stuff it caused coming off the walls. /sigh

I forget what game it was, but their fourm has a little picture tag for spoilers. I use to love snipping that picture tag and embedding it in a post. In particular, the subject of a particular location that was nearly impossible to find, was always a hot topic. I use to love putting "To get to there go to [image]" and seeing how many people said "Your tag isn't working".

Because it was a location you'd only go to twice - once as part of a sequence, once as part of a quest, and that was it. Period. No other way there.

And the quest was 100% optional, and rahter hidden, so you had to know to look for it in the first place.

It's also still in development and still free to play. (And I only just accidentally spoilered myself about the temple rewards- they are pretty neat imo 😍)

"The Grind"... I've always rolled my eyes at that... You're playing a game. If you're having fun, it is not possible to "grind". "Grind" happens when something ceases to be fun and become tedious. If the game is tedious, then it's time for a new game. If it's not, and you're having fun, you can't "grind". Then, look around. Look at the game play and mechanics. There really isn't anything else except continual resource collecting. At some point, you'll have all the possible furniture to make, have collected all the bugs and fish, achieved all the achievements, filled every available plot with as much as the plot can hold, and what's left? Gather resources to make ammo, so you can gather resouces to make food and gadgets, to do what with? Make more ammo and gadgets, or retire to your plot and farm and cook. "The Grind" is all there is.

It's just like, Imagine if The Hokey Pokey really was what it is all about.
I use to be a big fan of The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around.

Ah! Here's a great example: The Ember Medallions.. there's... six I think? They're for one of the fire temple bundles.. I happened to find one by accident. Went "Oh, quest item", and off it went where quest items go nowdays...
I managed to pick up all six of them without looking for them. In fact, I was hunting for rare bugs when I happened on the rest of them. Had I just OCD'd and gone "Can't-do-anything-else-must-find-all-six", it would have sucked, because they're hidden in somre pretty goofy places.

Same with the little Phoenix statues that light the candles under FF.. Never worried about going to hunt them down, just happened upon them as I was doing other things

What really destroys any and all motivation I have to grind, is completing the grind and then it turns out the thing I wanted isn't even going to work the way I hoped it would.
Palia is.... notoriously bad at this, for me- I can't muster the motivation to grind for some new furniture when I realize I won't even be able to color it the way I'd like once I do get my hands on it. I know some people have made really nice homes, but for me... if the colors aren't just right, it'll bother me to no end, and I'll get zero enjoyment out of trying to make it work. Especially when "trying to make it work" means grinding out the mats for even more items that may or may not have colors that're compatible with the vision I have in mind.

an example being, let's say I want to create a room with a unified natural wood color, white trim, red cloth interior.
So I look at the items and think "oh this bed would work perfectly!" and craft it, only for the brown/white/red color palette to be.... red wood, white cloth, brown trim, or something like that. And that piece gets shoved into storage never to be seen again because it's just not going to work, despite having the right colors... because the colors are in the wrong places. Repeat 5-10x and maybe getting only one item that actually has the colors to my liking and... yeahhhh lol

Nothing here. Only heard the Discord speculation. Haven't made any effort to search out any information either. We get what they give us is sort of all there is to it.

What makes sense is not always what is done though. Consider: I get NPC's who want/would love a Poke Bowl.
I didn't even have an account or the game until a week and a half before the Lunar New Year Event, so there's no possible way for me to have or obtain this receipe.

What Makes Sense is not include items that a player cannot possibly obtain from being Wanted/Loved unless there is a means of obtaining that thing.

I bought 200. I've used 6. I don't make any of the new food, unless someone is Wanting or Loving it. It doesn't restore enough focus for me to bother carrying around.

FWIW the patch notes did originally say the soy sauce is available at zeki's general store but they removed that after a week or two. so i think some people are just assuming that was written in the patch notes because it's their intention to add it to the store later, and the devs removed that reference because it's not currently true and it was confusing people. that, or people are extrapolating based on the confirmation that seeds and forageables are permanent 🤷‍♂️

One workaround for when the NPCs want an event recipe would be to ask someone who has said recipe to cook it with you. Then you can just request it if you need it in the future. Not as convenient as being able to cook it yourself, but it's an option

Screeches MUSHROOM LORE!!! It's a maitake, or Hen of the Woods! You might be familiar, but for anyone else who's curious it's a choice edible wild foraged mushroom that's very mild, nutty, and slightly chickeny in flavor. It's lovely as a young forage, make sure it's just not super old, dry, or buggy and you're good to go- dry sauted until the moisture is mostly gone then finished with butter and maybe some light seasoning, we like a garlic herb kinda blend.

Bonus fact!! (If I'm remembering correctly) The name maitake loosely translates to something like dancing mushroom since if you found one, you'd do a lil dancey dance of joy about your luck! I think that's so cute and human.

Yes it especially happens if I water my garden after toodling around my plot adding/adjusting/crafting. If I exit my plot and re-enter, it has a chance of not happening again I've found. Or if I do my watering first, then my other toodling.

I’ve had slowdown when watering and also it freezes then the crops are just watered and it unfreezes. I get it a lot. I am on Switch.

@compact tendon regarding waiting for people to come to break resources, it's obviously play your own style here as is mentioned a lot, but personally for me, it's server dependent. If there's lots of chatter, I'll do a few callouts. But if it'd quiet on that server I'll just do nearby or just pair up with another person in the region to flare and leapfrog around a bit together. It's really play at your own pace and you should never feel bad for not waiting a long time- 15 mins would be too long for even me! I'd tag the spot on my map and take a hike at that point and get back to the loot spot after buzzing around the area at least once or twice in that time!
(This coming from someone who favors grouping up and sharing resources because it's a fun way to make in game frens, still, 15 mins for anything but a full blown grove is quite gratuitous for my personal attention span lol)

Yeah that's usually how I play, thankfully I'm patient but also making a garden plan for future ideas so it took me time to figure out the layout I wanted for that eventually. So really the waiting time was just my gardening layout time

I am also adept in the arts of foraging and survivalism. Of course, being a Desert Storm vet doesn't hurt either, but I was already well past "hard-core" when I went into basic.... My idea of a great time:
Load up the boat with rations, water and my bug-out bag, cruise off to find a small island, spend 3, 4 or 5 days just "surviving" off of whatever I can round up, dig up, fish up, or trap. Build myself a lean-to, or hang a hammock, and build a fire.

Don't get a whole lot of "that sounds great, let's go!"'s , but that's ok too... I'm at my best when alone... but I always leave a float plan and GPS coordinates of where I'm going... in case something happens, they'll know where to look for my remains.

It could be worse. (no chat log available) Here (NA) the grove was announced. 4 of of the 6 or so OMWs got there and managed to hit the trees before an organized group showed up en-mass (none had said anything in global) and cut the entire grove down.

They were organized. As soon as the whole group was there, they all ran to each tree, hit it once, then split into two groups and proceeded to clear everything. Then ran off. Nothing in global.

Group found the grove, called it out, I was still hiking cross-country when they asked "Anyone else coming?" I replied "Yeah, me". Got all the way to where it was, just outside of FF on the north. Made the mistake of trying to climb. Got to the top edge, and climing paralysis set in. Had to mash jump to fall off, as "X" to let go doesn't work when that happens. Ran around the base, up the side, all of about 10 seconds, and they'd cleared the entire thing.

Not the first or second time that's happened to me, but it will be the last. I don't chase call outs any more and I don't make them any more. It's been proven to me I can't trust, so I won't.

I get not wanting to sit around forever waiting on people, but I know at least 7 or 8 saw me trying to climb, and laughed when I said "I'm stuck to the wall, just a sec". My blocklist now outnumbers both my Community and my Friends list, and I don't unblock. I also do not forgive. Forgiveness is an excuse for weakness.

@sacred topaz No, I get it. For me, things are a bit different.. I don't have a "need" to collect, I just do, and mostly I use what I collect to fill Requests for Renown. Average around 70 per day without even really trying.

Forgiveness is a tricky concept for me. They say to err is human; to forgive, divine. I seek to forgive others because I don't want to allocate any more resources than necessary thinking about those that have wronged me.

I also detest the weakness in others that I fear in myself, and admit that at times I have craved forgiveness.

I think it is easier to forgive when remorse is apparent. These grove felling rogues seem to wantonly skip down the path to the dark side with eyes wide open.

So while I block the flow thieves and try to move on, i do find i keep thinking about how someone feels justified in their selfish actions. It feels i am not truly sure how to forgive, or one does not simply forget.

It's not as if we're talking about Dari cloves that only spawn 2 at a time in 2 of over 100 possibly locations or something. But when you do opt to share, and then disregard others, then I get a bit annoyed.

I've noticed an increase in not calling out grove on EU servers. I've chalked it up in part to non-english speakers not wanting to be told "in English please!" so I think groups of same language players

I gots a surf onn USB keyboard and it works well enough, just plug n play. Only problem is you cant use shift unless onscreen keyboard is open, and you can't send a message without it opening onscreen keyboard after you send.

I've heard the Switch has its own brand of issues... I'll never know, as I'll never have one. I lost all interest in all things Nintendo with the advent of the N64 and those giant, mutant, bonus-chromosome things they called "controllers".
