I'm beyond frustrated... NOW I get why my friend refuses to play the game until they fix this... because she LITERALLY CAN'T play because of her disability.
Can you show me what the options are under the "Assign Macro" sub menu?
Okay! I think it may be under the "Assign a shortcut" option. I believe that should open a little window with checkboxes next to Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Win+, and None, and should have an open field next to (Single Key).
Try that, click the checkbox next to "None", make sure all the other checkboxes are not checked, then click into the white field and hit the 4 on your number pad.
And you are not wrong--there is an astounding lack of helpful information on that mouse's software on the internet! This best guess comes from squinting at a video clip on an amazon review in a language I don't even speak 😅
Nope. I just assigned that to the mouse settings.. but when I went into the palia settings and selected the mouse buttons, it's still acting as if it's the number row and NOT the mum pad. 😦
wait... I jsut went back into the mouse settings and it's gone back to the origial settings? How the heck do I save this? xLOLOLOL
HEY SINGULARITY 6....FIX YOUR KEYBINDS!!!!
I'm sure they're doing the best they can, especially after losing 35% of their team
I see something here that says export configuration... ok. but what do I do with his?
yeah but WHY did they lay everyone off. Because some of them were laid off. They didn't just quit.
I'm looking more into the software for your mouse--mine was a bit more straightforward on saving profiles
OMFG I FIGURED IT OUT!!!
I have to click APPLICATION... which SHOULD say... APPLY but it worked!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hooray! Yeah, I'm not sure why the drivers for Zelotes are so complicated--rather counter-intuitive, but we got there in the end! ❤️
Praise god. It's also from China? Or Japan? Beacuse their site... a lot of it is in I think Chinese xD It's a great mouse... and I bought it JUST for palia. xD
Glad you were able to figure it out.
@hoary heron you are an absolute champion.
My obsession has taken over again xD
Yes I totally concur! @hoary heron is a totally gem!
Aww, I'm just glad you didn't give up and kept giving my solution-attempts a chance! And I got better functionality out of the game for myself too!
I think at this point I might need to make some keybinding walkthrough guides based on all we've discovered over the past week or two in here. Hopefully make it easier for those who google after us 🤣
Razer and Steelseries I know you can do it through their respective software.
This is a free one that works for Windows.
https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm
Oh I am actually going to do a YouTube video on how to bind them and I'm also going to do a review video on Amazon because I actually bought it from Amazon.
Is there any way to keep the text chat window open? I'm constantly missing whispers, party text, and communications. It's a little lonely.
Unfortunately not at present. If you haven't already, I'd recommend sharing that with them via the feedback form.
But yeah, I miss messages a lot and the fading out is frustrating. Of course when the flickering bug happens and I want to hide my chat window, I can't do that either 😅

oof melbelle got sacked x.x i guess that's why she never got back to me about the contrast slider
do you have an option to make a macro within the software - i have game mouse (hyperx wireless) with macro option and i just have to open up the create and hit record then hit num button of choice , save and then load that for the mouse button of choice. definately dont have what you have but it was just a thought
I do but I can't remember what exactly a macro is. I just remember it being hella complicated for me to figure out in college (which was not long ago for me). It's ok thought be ause I was able to find the drivers and software for it and download it from their website. And then with the assistance of @hoary heron I was able to assign the number keypad numbers to button number 4, 5, 6 , 7 , and 8. It's also helping me a LOT in Lightyear Frontier. Haven't tried kebinding stuff in Helldivers yet though I am SERIOUSLY considering that.
started playing another game and it makes palia's accessibility settings look amazing by comparison
Oh no
Hey
so i only have 6.5 hrs across 3 sessions (that first one I was a tad fixated) and it took a little bit more time to get palia(a new game is like a new language really), but I am SO lost on mechanics and how to achieve the main goal as the tutorial/first level was lacking in instruction. It doesn't even have FOV or camera settings so i'm limited by eye strain, headache, and motion sickness just like before I got graphics settings dialed in in palia. the camera doesn't stay behind the character or at the same distance so it's really disorienting. While the game is early access right now, that's only for the pc build and it's a 5 year old award winning multi platform game so not a lot of hope for improvement before leaving early access
Aww, I'm so sorry. Which game is it?
sky: children of the light - it's so cute looking
I know that one. True, they could do better with accessibility stuff...
In case you're talking about Sky, I don't know the tutorial, they've changed that ca 15 times since I did it... Would be off-topic here but if you need help for it dms are open. I can't change the settings but should be able to answer questions if you have any.
Oh nooo! I've been eyeing that one 🥺
Ok. Hang with me on this y’all. Is anyone here doing this…playing Palia, through the XBOX Series X, through Game Pass, through GeForce??? And yes, I know Palia is NOT on XBOX…I heard that it CAN be done this way…I’m just wondering if anyone here is doing it like this successfully.
I have not--though you may have better luck reaching someone who has in the #💻│tech-help channel?
Oh I didn’t even think about that. Thank you 😁.
Yea, sky was originally meant for mobile, the settings arent too great, but i know you can lower framerate and graphics. They may update the settings for pc since its a new release 👍 smy has actually been out of Early Access for a couple years! And is only labeled that because its release on PC happened in the past week or so
I forgot to reply, but! Im an older player (since 2019, fresh out of early access) so if any help is needed feel free to send me a dm 👍 it really is a cute game! And Im sorry you're having such issues!
is there any way to highlight and copy text from the chat window? I'd love to be able to have a machine-translated conversation with users chatting in languages other than english, but typing everything back out isn't feasible (especially when it's another alphabet, lol)
Don't think you can copy or paste from chat
bit longer but you can screenshot the text and put the image into google translate. i didn't actually know you could do that because usually i don't go to the direct page for it so the image option never came up before https://translate.google.com/
Google's service, offered free of charge, instantly translates words, phrases, and web pages between English and over 100 other languages.
I play in APAC servers, so I'm sometimes the only English speaker in a server, and I'll use the translate app to do quick and dirty live translates. You can do it from your phone camera held up to the screen.
Google Translate/Google Lens specifically, since i have an android. Not sure if there are any apple-y equivalents.
Not enough FTs .. & ppl dont tell u where they are till the last 10 seconds ... Annoying
i’m a switch player and typing SUCKS on the switch , an app on our phone where we could type a message then click send and it’ll send in game!!! i love how animal crossing has this feature on the nintendo app and i think something like this would be perfect for palia!!
!feedback would be a good spot to put this if you haven't yet.
Also, I 100% agree, typing on Switch is rather bad.

you can use a usb keyboard with the switch
re: that discussion about blocking folks a while back- #🌟│sixer-tracker message
I don't care about that new stuff coming, WHEN are they going to increase chat text size so I can actually read it to find call outs?
I gave up in Subira's quest months ago over needing all that flow wood I couldn't get. And trading was broken
It was "soon" but then they fired like 1/3 of people... hopefully soon does mean this patch and they just didn't mention it in the notes despite knowing it's a popular request because they forgot 🤞 . The days between patch announcement and patch notes are always the worst for me
When are they going to fix the keybinds. Here are people that haven't been able to play for MONTHS that have invested rl money I to their game that can't play be ause they have a disability with their hands that requires keybinds to be ables to be used and they can't be ause they're all broken. 😢
they messed with keybinds in the last update in some way, a lot of people reported that theirs were reset, but s6 didn't claim any fixes so i dunno what they messed with but perhaps some of the brokenness is less broken
That said, we also want to share that additional quality-of-life and accessibility features on the horizon, such as:
Brightness sliders
Colorblind features
UI and text adjustments
we're probably not getting a date or even a window because they're not done or tested yet and since that was before the 2nd round of layoffs it's on even shakier ground (if they don't give a date then it can't be late, nvm that launching without it means it's late in this case)
The last we'd heard from Melbelle before the layoffs was Soon.
Just found this channel, has there been any news on making temples easier for people with hand response issues?
None I'm aware of, there's beeen rather little in general.
I really hope so, I want to play the game again, but probably not, I feel us with disabilities don’t matter
So. I am dyslexic and have massive problems trying to follow chat when there is infused wood. Any advice? My reading is usually fast until I hit a word i don't know. Chat is one long word I can not process.
Can you ask in chat? Say something like: can anyone in few words tell me where to go? Or if anyone can invite you to party, so you can just follow their green dot on the screen? ☺️
If someone is struggling i usually ask if they want me to invite them to party, but i seldom see other people do that, so maybe if you ask, they'll do it? 🩷
I can try. But will not hols my breath.
Hi, everyone. How can I get Palia for MAC?
It's not officially supported but there are unofficial ways to get it working. https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1136399336385806427
Vega has made some posts in the server talking about the team experimenting with alternate pathing in the Roots temple. In my opinion, some of those worked out and other bits need more work, but I'm glad they're trying and I hope they don't stop.
Also just to let y'all know, I'm largely taking a break from the server--in addition to my usual chronically ill body nonsense, someone decided I should help a statistic and now I'm dealing with a viral infection that is supposed to be rare for the under 40 crowd, and all my nerves on half my body are constantly on fire so all my attention is going to dealing with that.
Much love to you all and I'm still holding a torch of hope for accessibility in Palia.
I hope you feel better soon Melodic D:
My goodness Melodic, sending love and support your way and hope your recovery goes well and fast 🫂
I hope you feel better Melodic! All the best. Sending lots of positivity and support your way. <3
The new maps for the temples seem like such an amazing accessibility win! (Edit to add: particularly for the air temple which I know a lot of us had difficulty navigating- makes me want to go back and explore with the map)
Also brightness slider 👀 can't wait to get my hand on that
Sadly no text/ui resizing this patch though
I'm glad we finally have them (the maps). I know when I did air temple I had such a horrid time that I ended up looking up a walkthrough.
I wonder why they decided to make them more cinematic as opposed to top down though. Personally, I would find the map cinematic map kind of confusing
I wonder if the "look around" setting will let you rotate it to be more top down/vertical? I think that would be nice for the air temple since it has different heights. But no clue if that's what that does, I suppose we'll see when the patch is live
(for anyone that wants the accessibilit/adjacent additions here)
The Map will now show a coordinate grid.
This has been a long-requested feature, and should help out with group play alongside Flare Arrows. “Disco deer at B4!”
Temples will now have a dedicated map.
In an effort to help players navigate these special areas, you’ll be able to see a custom map in each space.
We specifically wanted to call out the Air Temple, which will also have icons for quest-related items.
⚠️Note: While our Palian cartographer was able to create maps for the Temples of the Flames, Gales, and Roots, the one of the Temple of the Waves will be arriving with the next patch. 🙏
Brightness (Gamma) Settings are now available on PC. 🔆
PC Controllers can now access the “Esc” Menu by pressing the Pause button.
⚠️This can be rebound in the settings menu if you wish to change back to the previous default keybind (Inventory).
There is now an Unstuck button you can quickly access in menus.
Previously, the only option was to type it out in chat, which we knew was a challenge especially for Switch and controller users. This option should make it more accessible
Air Gusts in the Temple of the Gales have been improved to better carry the player.
This was so tiny! I missed it and had to CTRL + F to search for "brightness" to see it myself. I wonder why the unstuck button got a picture showing it in the menu, but the brightness settings, something people have been begging for since the start, didn't have a picture and wasn't even under a clearly labeled accessibility section in the notes (it's under "Improvements And Adjustments" for anyone else reading). Weird choices they've made
No clue, but good news is, they added it finally.
(Thanks for pointing it out, I would have missed it I think.)
Yeah, I also almost missed it, my guess is that there just wasn't a picture available when they were writing the patch notes.
I can finally play! (I think! gotta test the brightness settings myself) I haven't been able to since the update before the first maji market that added cats
O_o hitting pause didn't show the escape menu before with controllers? Huh.
The default had been changed for it to open inventory
It originally did open escape menu, then got changed to inventory, and now seems to have been changed back
Sorry if this was mentioned already, but i want to note... it does say settings and in parentheses (gamma), so it might not be the same affect. I hope it's actually a brightness slider though and that it'll be nice though. My fingers are crossed, but when i noticed that, it makes me worry 💀
My fingers are crossed though and I hope it'll turn out okay though! Either way i'll be looking later when I can to see how it is
oh that is a good point, I simply assumed brightness = slider, but that may not be the case. i'll try to share screenshots of the settings when the patch goes live
I wish the last big lighting adjustment didn't blow out all the lighting on the NPCs quite so much. 😩
i'm guessing that as it's the only thing related to the specific accessibility settings they were working on and that there's no copy/image, that it's just that "Brightness (Gamma) Settings are now available on PC. 🔆" was the only piece ready for this patch but they wanted to get it implemented asap anyway
Yeah. I'm hoping it'll be a slider and stuff, but we'll see. I just can't help but get worried due to past experiences. But again, fingers crossed, and I do still have hope!
valid worry because it is possible that this is just a part of the brightness settings (plural) but they're hoping to build some good will or trust by getting anything out OR it could be the only setting and not what we're hoping for
Is maintence still going on or is it over now, I ask because I cant log in yet, I have mine through steam.
it was extended another hour per #📢│palia-status message, i'd wait until they give the all clear (and maybe restart steam at that point since steam achievements are part of the update)
gamma slider and also glows seem brighter (haven't yet made any adjustments on the slider), at least on my crops
YAYYYY FINALLY
Sorry if this has already been answered, but is there a dyslexia font or an auto reader available?
no there isn't, the only text related setting hasn't been added yet and will be a scaler. definitely ask for it though

Thank you!
Honestly, I'm very sad. My hope was very minimal, and small, when it came to "gamma slider". Because I hear gamma, and it changes a lot from "brightness" imo.
I still have major eye-strain. It doesn't fix anything for me personally, so I still can't properly play unless I want to get headaches. Even having it on 0.3 or 0.4 is too much. (and vice versa w/ "brighter").
ugh keybinding is gonna make me insane
yeah 0.179 apparently reset keybinds again. unintentionally this time
here's some images I took during midday with gamma at 0 (darker one) and 1 (brighter one). the images aren't spoilers of anything in game (just badruu's farm), but I spoiled it in case the bright one is too much for anyone
oh.....oh my
Yeah. It's... gamma. Basically putting brightness/contrast together in 1 slider... (in simple terms for me anyways)
I know one of you helped me a lot last update so im trying to find the video lol
Might've been Melodic ?
those are the extremes, so the in betweens are less extreme, but yeah it changes brightness and contrast in one
Still eye-strainy. and definitely just feels like they added it because of the "Backlash". I hate being negative about it but it's just how it feels at this point. It didn't actually fix anything (to me). At all. I still can't play due to the eyestrain bc of headaches.
Sometimes that stuffs hard to figure out. Maybe they just didn't think about it
Because that's how Minecraft and a few other games also do it I wouldn't put simple ignorance behind anyone. Not to play devil's advocate. Maybe you can pitch something else?
I can't really accept hearing that anymore due to how often we have been asking for this. And telling them.
Oh geez I wouldn't know I'm new here, I apologize.
to me it feels like a good first step, but yeah not enough for many people. hopefully it's an intermediate step as they give us something more advanced (🙏)
You're fine; I don't mean to seem uhh, idk the right word here?
But it's just frustrating at this point haha
It basically looks like they slapped a Reshade filter over everything atm.
Oh understandably so. That setting was exciting for me too, for turning up the brightness funnily enough, bit it was too harsh for me, too. It kinda casts a fog
Broken again in this patch. Cannot even keybind any alternate key to anything. Update I can change the Key 1 column to a new key, but I cannot add anything into the Key 2 column
I think one of the main issues is that there's a weird blue hue/filter? over the entire game, so it makes it a bit hard. So in that aspect/regard, i can understand and get it. but idk.
just hard not to be sad about it atm
I got the help from someone here. Check to see if the manufacturer of your mouse has software you can download form their website and then go into it and see if you can change the keybinds THERE. That's what I did when this person from here suggested taht and it worked for me. I now have ALL my tools set up so that the buttons connect to the NUMBER PAD numbers on the right side of the keyboard instead of the number row at the top of the keyboard. It was a life safter.
Yeah they blew out the lighting really far when they changed it. So slapping a gamma filter over that is gonna take some adjustment for color temperature.
Im gonna seach this whole thread about keybinding. They made a video about switching the walk button and the number 2 but i didnt think it was gonna be this difficult
mine got reset again which is so annoying
Committing crimes by peeking my head in during work hours but just wanted to check in on everyone with the release of .179! We know from the survey that brightness was a huge issue that many people actually wrote-in themselves to highlight (though I'm not saying the survey had direct impact, this was a feature likely being worked on for months now I'm guessing)
Another small win? People feeling more optimistic? O:
(Also I hope all of you lovelies have been doing well!!)
Admiral took screenies of both min and max gamma.
#♿│accessibility-discussions message
Ah yeah those results make sense considering what @warm grove said:
Yeah. It's... gamma. Basically putting brightness/contrast together in 1 slider... (in simple terms for me anyways)
Because yeah that is essentially what gamma would look like in application; a combined brightness/contrast slider. People are finding it too intense?
Very intense still for me, because i can't properly control how the contrast is working w/ the brightness as a whole. So either way it's still eye-strainy for me.
I think the huge culprit as well for that is the blue hue/filter they have over the game :[
Would various temperature filters solve that issue?
So.... First of all, Im so sorry 😭 I changed everything but now it wont like me change "Movement Up" to the left mouse button. Im not sure why?
Genuinely not sure. It's just something I kinda want to give up on as a whole, though. I had slim hope for the "brightness (gamma) settings" but it just.. yeah. It's hard to also just put into words.
I wish I had the comparison photos on hand rn for how it was before they added a blue hue/filter over the game, too, haha.
Just sitting here wishing I could adjust the brightness & contrast individually myself
Putting some more warmth back in might help balance the colors at least when the gamma is really high.
Finally got the doc to get me some meds to help with all the nerve-nonsense I'm dealing with now--I have a work meeting in a few minutes that finishes at 4:30 PM EDT (UTC-4); once that's over, I'll spin up the game and see if I can test and sort this out. Can you send me screenshots of your current bindings?
Heard. It can be really frustrating when you were looking forward to something and it didn't pan out the way it maybe, should have. My big excitement with this patch was both the brightness as well as the low-spec optimization. Gonna' try it out tonight with friends who stopped playing because of the input lag and frame skipping / stuttering that triggered their sensitivities. Fingers crossed.
Definitely keep vocalizing the need for independent brightness / contrast sliders though, because you're clearly not the only one who has that need Valk! I'd really like to see those, too.
And thank you @pastel mica for going out of your way to find that comparison. I think I just forgot a time before the cool temp filter because those images actually surprised the hell out of me omg. Definitely could do with adjustable hues, colour grading, or a set list of filters addressing the same issue. Colourblind modes notwithstanding.
I was trying to find good examples for how different color temperatures would look but a lot of the reshade presets I've seen don't really explain the theory well.
Hahaha, believe me, I'll still try to make myself heard every once in a while when I can. Maybe not so much today, but overtime, of course.
And just hope it gets properly heard from higher up, along the way.
And right! It's wild honestly. The differences between the two is just shocking.
Yes! No Worries! You do your thing! No Rush!
From admirals screenshots it looks like they just slapped a black filter over the top (left) vs accounting for more values (right, which is black/greys)
Disclaimer: this is a quick and dirty edit.. i'm not a color grader by any means
Im using the default currently except for the walk button
You'd have to do something different for the really bright gamma setting though.
Here's another comparison someone else made higher up in that channel:
Really feels like photosensitive folx who get migraines triggered by light like me are just screwed. The new outfit with idle fire is just more aura triggering for me.
heads up, there's a new splash visual and sound effect when throwing smoke bombs in the water ( i find it annoying, but others might find it's a problem)
😓 not at you just...in general @ this stuff
no, i get it - reacting to the content not the poster
There is a similar splash sound on the water version of the new ninja costume, when you run. 😦
yea I can't even change my movement keys to esdf any more......
I'd put in a ticket about it if you were able to do it previously.
here come ticket number 5 about keybinds. lol
T_T I wish they would just properly support Azerty keyboards.
I have been doing that. I'm just endlessly frustrated.
any game that I have difficulty keybinding int he game has a prefs file that allows me to manual do it myself.....
Folks are having issues with mmo type mice too.
Its mostly the same as it has been all along.
keybinding worked flawlessly when I first played it.
Some stuff did get weird when they added in remapping for controllers.
it got weird even before that. there was a time when I couldn't use the "f" key to go right near my crops or anything that had an interaction with it.
that was 5 months ago
Yeah keys essentially ending up with double bindings.
yea. Most of that was finally fixed with the update before this one, but then the modifier keys broke. They worked on their own, but not with another key, so I had to use the tool wheel to get to my tools quickly instead of using "shift + 1" for my axe for example.
I found the fix for the keys! It's frustrating. Any keys that is already bound, cannot be bound to another key, I basically had to unbind some actions (without the asterisks, because they cannot be unbound) and basically play musical chairs with the keybinds.
For example, I had to change Tool Wheel under General Gameplay to an unbound key (I use one of my mouse buttons), then change Clockwise Rotation under Placement Manipulation and Select Item Right under General Gameplay & Placement Mode to R, so I can make Character Movement Up E.
Is there a way to move Character Movement to the mouse?
I think that depends on how you have your mouse bound?
This is how I have it for last update
Sorry I don't really download files from strangers. Nothing personal.
Youre fine! I get it! Mainly I did what @hoary heron said. She helped me a great deal!!
Fair.
Youre goood! No worries! 😄
If you have VLC you can remux it into an MP4 file which Discord will let be playable.
I dont think I do 😦
No worries.
Just an FYI - there is now a sort of xylophone on the doorway to Zeki's shop when go in.
I'll have to be on the lookout once I get my keybindings situated
Okay let me see what i can find out! Also, I'll take the leap on that video and remux it with OBS to an MP4 so it can be played on Discord
Oop maybe it was OBS I did it in
...or OBS can not pick up my audio. 😦
Small issue, not sure if this is the right place to post it.
I changed the keybind to place a waypoint since clicking my mouse wheel works like 25% of the time. But when rebinded, it doesn't actually rebind and still requires you to push your mouse button.
Sending this to the Palia support on their website too
Yes this is a known issue--thank you for adding your report!
Here's the MP4 version of the clip you sent, @vast wyvern
Thank you! Idk what i need to do since the Character Movement wont bind
re:keybinds
if you're even slightly technologically inclined, AutoHotKey can be used in leiu of - or to override - the game's native remapping if you're swapping entire keys
e.g. if you want the hardcoded F functions moved to G, AutoHotKey can do that
I just need to switch the walk button over to my moue button or else I cannot play it anymore
Just got home and I gotta be honest, was there ANY disability consultants on the team for the 'brightness' slider?
Shadows are not brightness.
S6 has never mentioned any.
It's evident. God I wish they would just ask some of us here to test stuff because this doesn't fix the problem and honestly makes it worse
0.5 has no adjustment, anything below seems to get a black filter and anything above seems to get a white one.
I'm just worried for other accessibility features if this is their idea of a fix
Yeah, it's sad that the thing that took the least amount of time is the best accessibility feature we have right now.
Yeah. It's why I see it and... like, yeah it's a "yay" in the aspect that they heard what we were saying about wanting something, but it also was used as a "bandaid" to hopefully "fix" and get people to stop mentioning they dont add accessibility... because now people can point and gesture and be like "See! Yes they do!" ... when it didn't/doesn't solve the issue (imo).
All i can do is hope they hear what we think about it and hopefully fix it or something similar.
Literally every monitor nowadays has contrast/brightness/gamma settings built in and then some. On top of that, changing post processing setting from epic to lower will make the game much less bright. And if that fails, try ReShade and you can make the game look however you like.
I'm not changing my monitor settings everytime I open or close the game. That's ridiculous, esp since that requires fine-tuning it each time. This is a setting that should be in the game. It's something we have asked for for a long time.
The game is bright for some, and dark for others. It isn't just a me thing, and it's a thing that would benefit tons of people as a whole.
I shouldn't have to depend on a 3rd party program to make the game run decently or okay. And reshade doesn't always fix the problem since those are filters, not actually changing stuff in the game itself. Thanks for trying to be helpful though.
Different monitors, different settings. AGAIN, post processing setting to HIGH or lower will make the game way less brighter. Games rarely have brightness and contrast settings. And ReShade can change a LOT of things. The fact that it doesn’t change stuff in game itself has nothing to do with the end result and I guarantee that it would solve your issue if you’re desperate
I've used reshade before. I use it for DBD. I use it for FF14. It's more like filters and doesn't change everything or fix everything. I shouldn't have to depend on a 3rd party program, and that is what I'm at least trying to state here.
I know games with brightness sliders. Contrast sliders is something I'm not 100% sure on, but I'm sure others might be able to comment about it, however I still think that should be a thing in this game at least due to the fact that they have some obnoxious blue tint/filter over the game itself. There is examples as to what I mean above.
I'm not changing my monitor settings each time i open or close the game. I do other things other than play Palia on my monitor. I am also an artist. Changing those settings literally change everything and not just the game itself and is a hassle to mess with overall.
And again, I use it for DBD and FF14. And at least for DBD-- since that actually does not have a brightness/contrast sliders-- no it does not fix everything, which makes me believe that would also be the case here. I know those are different genres due to 1 being more of a horror game and competitive in some regard, but still. & not to mention, Reshade is also a hassle to understand and can be a struggle to adjust.
And now, I'll say again, thank you for at least trying to be helpful.
I will say that I don't think S6 has said whether they consider Reshade to be a 'mod' or not for Palia.
Also honestly the gamma settings on a monitor would be more adjustable than the in game ones are rn. 😩
OK, so IF ReShade doesn’t fix it for you then built-in Brightness and Contrast settings won’t fix it for you either. Or…you’re using wrong filters. And there’s plenty to choose from. The hideous blue tint is one of the reasons I’m using it for Palia. This and to fix the lighting. So thanks to ReShade I’m enjoying Palia in warm, cozy and vibrant colors and no brightness and contrast settings is gonna do that. But your choice.
Just wanting to say, this is also why I don't want to use Reshade. S6 hasn't properly said if it's a "mod" or not for Palia rn, and they have already had a stance of they don't allow any form of mods for the game itself. And S6 has never clarified it.
And I still just don't agree, as a whole/in general, that I should have to install/download a 3rd party program to help me play a game. It's just silly and isn't great. I understand it's a workaround for some, and for that, I am happy/grateful that's an option. That I do love.
But the devs should still have something to help this in the game. Not to mention that you can't have Reshade or anything on the switch... so for those with eyestrain or issues on the switch... Like, they deserve to play too? They shouldn't have these kind of issues, eye strain, or difficulty either? Idk
It's another reason I don't agree w/ 3rd party programs for that purpose.
@warm grove Reshade has been used with Palia since the beginning. Switch graphics are vastly different than PC.
Please stop with the "3rd party program" argument, you're already using it to "help you play" other games... So my last piece of advice is that you probably need filters like "Curves", "Tonemapper" (to mess with exposure), and maybe "Levels", because like I said...
Basic contrast and brightness in-game setting WILL NOT solve your problem. - There's more to how "bright" the game is than just those two settings. and AGAIN, if you want the game to be less eye-straining - change the in-game post processing setting to anything below Epic.
I'm out. I gave you a solution. Stop asking for brightness setting, it will not help even if they add it.
I wasn't even responding to you in that moment. Please stop trying to dictate what I should or shouldn't do. I am also allowed to have frustrations and wishes for what should be in/on the game. I can also have opinions but also use specific presets for different things-- I use it for FF14 for different reasons than provided here. (Gpose in specific for screenshots).
Just because I use it doesnt mean I also "agree" that i should. There is a difference. Stop changing how i'm wording things. stop trying to also tell me what i should or shouldn't do. Just knock it off.
Switch/PC still both have issues in regards to brightness. I've seen people who play on the switch have issues. Just bc it's different doesn't mean they should struggle in a different way, either.
I'm going to ask for a brightness setting. i'm going to ask for things to help those, not just for me (because even if it doesnt help me, it could help others). I'm going to do what I can to help advocate for Myself and others. Leave me alone. I didn't even ask you for a solution.
Does anyone else get dizzy with the zoom that happens when using the watering can? I find if i try and move between waters before it finishes zooming out I get REALLY dizzy
sometimes, yeah. on days where I'm already a bit dizzy prone it does bug me
Don’t post in “discussions” then if you’re unable to accept advice from others. You asked for a solution by posting here. That’s how forums, discussions and internet works.
The wall of text you just posted only proves that you’re complaining for the sake of complaining and on top of that you’re being rude to people who are trying to help you when you clearly don’t understand how lighting/reshade/ and unreal engine this game is on, works.
This accessibility discussions. I can talk about what i want here in regards to accessibility. Leave me alone.
I haev spoken about other things here, too. But you have only been making me feel like I'm being dismissed or invalidated at this point. I have stated how I feel about things, and then you proceeded to tell me "stop asking for brightness sliders". I only started being "rude" when i continuously felt invalidated/dismissed.
Jesus…ok. I get it. You’re right and everyone else is wrong. No problem. Regardless, I have the same right to say whatever I want so…maybe some other people will find my advice helpful. Ignoring advice and information has nothing to do with feelings, so stop it. You’re welcome to ignore advice but as I said, you’re not the only person here.
As a general reminder, we are always happy to see discussion and a variety of viewpoints, but they should always be done with respect and kindness in mind. At the end of the day we all want the same thing, to have the best possible experience in the game and within the community.
I've no doubt it's been used. And I do know it works well and is heavily customizable. Oop. Discord didn't scroll down.
I will also add that if it's technically considered a mod (and thus not allowed) we can't provide any kind of help/support for it in the Discord here to help folks get it working either. So S6 would have to clarify for that reason too.
I'd take a real brightness slider in-game
the sky hurts my eyes and the gamma slider doesn't help
Or a colorblindness filter that removes this blue tint. I have a damaged cone and thus I’m technically colorblind as my perception of blue is incredibly messed up— I do have orange filters and accessibility setting on my switch and PC to contrast this but with the heavy blue filter on Palia its becoming less accessible from a colorblindness standpoint.
It adds a blue hue to everything, and when everything has the same hue ingrained in a game even the filters can only do so much to help differentiate colors.
Especially when it comes to the sky and the water, and water depth. Sometimes I’m walking and casually fall into the river and respawn, but there was no change in water color
or maybe my characters just a fish
Different color temperature options would be nice, it'd go hand in hand with settings for color blindness. Even if they had a few preset ones and an option to customize them.
Yes please- I'd use an option like that even without being colorblind... the blue-tinted everything is a huge contributor to eye strain for me. 😔
My monitor was broken and wouldn't allow me to change brightness, so it was always on 100%. I downloaded a free program to dim my monitor, but the free version doesn't allow for fine tuning, only adjustments in increments of 20%, and the program often breaks and doesn't work over some games. Since then I've gotten a new monitor and this one still doesn't let me change brightness. It's brand new, I looked up how and still can't get it working, so I'm stuck with the free dimming program. These kinds of things happen to players, especially poor players who can't afford to replace or fix their equipment, and also can't pay for premium third party services. Games having their own brightness settings equalizes things for all players and makes it easier for people who can't figure out how to use mods for a game that doesn't support mods. Players have a right to be upset about this and to not accept advice that doesn't apply to them
Why am I still unable to chat or receive chat in the EU server? This makes it impossible to know where the groves are or to inform people of groves or palium piles. So unfair. The more they change things the more problems arise making the game useless to play
I've heard that if your device time is off, it can mess with a few things. Not sure if that's the cause here, but you could try making sure it/s synced to the current time.
Hello, any idea how to make shift + number work for specific tool? It did allow me to set this in settings, but trying to use it, don't works ( acts as I press number without the shift)
#♿│accessibility-discussions message #♿│accessibility-discussions message
Those two and the messages around them might be helpful, good luck!
New player here; the constant travelling for recipes and blueprints is giving me motion sickness
Okay! I did a bit of testing and it's because you still have left mouse button bound to:
Select Item Slot 2
Confirm Move
Once you change those to something else that works for you (or just right-click to remove the bind entirely on "Select Item Slot 2" if you want), you should be able to bind left mouse button to "Character Movement Up"
The shift+ functionality is bugged; what kind of keyboard and mouse are you working with? Our present workarounds have primarily involved putting those actions on additional buttons on a mouse, which I acknowledge isn't a solution for everyone as not everyone has a mouse with extra buttons (e.g. an MMO mouse)
On a more general note for everyone in here--something to keep in mind in all interactions, and not just in here but IRL as well:
Especially in situations where someone is upset about something or expressing their frustration--everyone wants something different out of that moment. If someone asks a direct question, it's a little more likely that they may want help finding a solution. But not everyone wants or needs problem-solving. Sometimes, they just want to state what's frustrating them to get it out there and alleviate the pressure from keeping it bottled up inside. Sometimes, they're hoping for commiseration, and that can be in reacts, active supportive commentary, or even supportive silent companionship while they work through it.
The key thing is that even with the people we know best, we don't know for sure what they need in that moment. And as a late-diagnosed neurodivergent who grew up desperately trying to read the silent cues of what people wanted, we shouldn't have to guess. I have guessed wrong before and while I had the best of intentions, it hurt and frustrated the person I was trying to help, and their reaction hurt me too. So I generally don't guess anymore. I try to normalize using the phrase "How can I best support you in this moment?". It conveys that I care about the person's experience and feelings, but also that I'm trying to respect their boundaries and find out from them what they need in that moment (because what they need can also change from situation to situation and sometimes even moment to moment).
Again, there are things that get posted in here that are direct questions and direct pleas for help and problem-solving, but not everyone who chats in here is looking for that in every post--we have a lot of discussions, frustration-sharing, commiseration, investigation/testing, and even some open discoveries of "Hey, this may not work for everyone, but this is something I have found helpful that makes the game more accessible to me--".
Am I always good at sticking to this? No--I was a chronic helper for most of my life, and it's still a rough habit to break, and in here it's a little tricky for me as well because as a Shepp (particularly one focused on Accessibility) I feel compelled to help if I can or at least gather information so I can do what I can to track and escalate it.
Anyhow, I know that's a LOT of text, especially in here, but I hope the above is helpful--it's greatly improved a lot of interactions and relationships with my friends and family, and I teach it to my kids as well (so they get a head start on this whole 'boundaries and direct communication thing')
When I first started sharing that technique with my family, my kiddo was doing a boss-fight in FFXIV and kept failing and grumbling about it in voice-chat. Without hesitation, my mom started explaining mechanics to the fight to them, and my kiddo quickly responded (albeit with a little heat) asking her to stop. Mom got huffy about it and made a comment along the lines of "Well, excuse me for trying to help." And in what is probably one of my proudest moments as a parent, I stepped in and said, "Mom--I've gotta call you in on that one; I know you had good intentions, but Kiddo didn't say they wanted help. You made an assumption, and offered help they didn't ask for, so it's not fair for you to be upset with them that they didn't want it." She took a moment to breathe, thought about what I said, and she apologized to the kiddo, and thanked me for standing up for my kiddo in support of their boundaries, even when a close family member was involved.
That's a good point, Melodic Blue!
My mom was also raised as a chronic helper, with the added societal pressure that it's the woman's duty to seek out problems in the home and solve them without being asked. We've all been doing a lot of hard work finding out boundaries, learning to communicate more directly, and healthier ways of handling conflict. ❤️
Just popping in to say "just use X third party program" should never be the response to accessibility, especially for something so basic as a good brightness slider which basically every game worth it's weight has now. If every other game can make brightness settings that actually function as brightness settings, I fail to see how Palia can't.
and reshade doesn't exist on switch so that point is moot for a decent chunk of the playerbase anyway
i still stand by recommending autohotkey for keybinds, especially since they keep resetting with updates
No one even seemed to notice my post here about photosensitivity and needing to turn off vfx. Just saw one of the new outfits makes a bright glow with each step. Losing my safe space more and more with each update now.
I definitely wish they had an option to turn off vfx. I don't have the issue with outfits, but there's certain vfx like the watering flowers or tilling soil that gives me sharp pains when it plays - I usually have to close my eyes before tilling or watering to make sure it doesn't happen which isn't ideal
Full -> Minimum -> Off options would be really good.
Minecraft has options like this and it's fantastic! Also helps with performance which is an added plus
XIV has pretty granular options for different group sizes too.
Am I missing something?
If you scroll the rest of the way down the list of keybinds, are there any other ones that still have the left mouse button as a binding?
Omg one of them had the LMB as a Key 2 that I never use😭 omg I owe you
You are my hero
Happy to help!
Big warm hugs and pats on the back for everyone here. It can get very exhausting when you're using this space the way it was intended only to have someone out of nowhere disregard, discredit, and dismiss your very real concerns and suggestions. And to do so with the intent to help, but to the effect of unsolicited paternalism.
If it helps, like we always say when it comes to advocacy work in general:
"Nothing new with being burned, it just makes our cause's fire burn brighter."
The conversations and work being done here continues to be wonderful, and inspiring!
Hope everyone affected can rest easy with keeping that in mind.
Hey! Welcome to Palia and also to the accessibility channel! I'm not sure if you were looking for a workaround, but in case you were, there's some settings you can play with that miiiiight be of help.
-
You can't change the camera zoom per se (which usually helps a lot of peeps who experience motion sickness) but messing with the FOV settings kind of affects the "zoom" too, which may help. Might want to see which one allows for extended play.
-
Lowering the mouse sensitivity drastically may help. Rather than having your game constantly flicking back and forth between actions, slower response time on your mouse would minimize screen movement, hopefully helping with the motion sickness.
-
This one is true of any game with, or without motion sickness support: breaks can be helpful! Sometimes we don't realize how much time has passed when we're having fun and we play ourselves sick.
All that said, Palia is lacking quite a few motion sickness features. That needs to be addressed, but hopefully those ideas can do something to help.
I get this from the mining sparks, too!
I think posts can all blur together more often than not, but you're definitely not alone in this. A lot of people have talked about photosensitivities and the lack of functions to mitigate those issues. Lots of MMORPGs I've played have settings to disable player cosmetic VFX entirely, so we'd think it was also something doable in Palia.
Same issue here.
Dont have camera assist on ..make feild of view at 80.
Helped me some
I’m on the Switch. Can I change this there?
Its in settings yes in game
Just wanting to say thank you, and big hugs.
ah thanks, I use laptop keyboard ( MSI gs65) and an cheap mouse but I did had two additional side buttons, so assigned one for bow and other for bugs catching :) Hope ability use shift + numeric will be patched eventually :)
gamma settings didn't help me, I still can't play 😭 It's been like half a year by now, right? Since the lighting suddenly changed and never went back?
Could feel a migraine coming on in less than 10 minutes of play time at NIGHT with gamma all the way down
That option as it is right now seems not ideal. I don't need this specific slider but tried it out nonetheless; to me the difference from the default lighting felt minimal.
Hopefully it may be a start for some better options called "separated sliders for brightness and contrast like in any other functional game".
Not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone use a streaming service to play that ISNT GeForce Now. It’s been 3 days and the game is still offline. I’m wanting to play and dip in to the new update. Any recommendations would be lovely. I’m on Mac (it’s pretty old ngl) so anything that requires newer OS may be a no-go for me. Thank you! ♥️♥️
#💻│tech-help might be able to point you toward options.
Y'all, first off--I want to say I really appreciate y'all explaining the particular impact the gamma slider has on you. Yes, even though for most of y'all who have reported on it, the impact has not been a positive one. It helps being able to convey how it's impacting you. Simply saying "The gamma slider sucks" is valid, but it's hard to action upon. The various ways you have described your attempts to use it, and how it's failed you is important and useful. ❤️
To address ReShade, as it comes up from time to time in here, especially when we're talking about lighting, photosensitivity, etc.:
I understand that it's not even an option for Switch players, and yes, we should have the accessibility functions in the vanilla experience. I also understand that sometimes we end up building our own accessibility. ReShade is a neat tool, though it does have a bit of a learning curve if you're constructing shaders from scratch, and there's no guarantee that the shaders you find built by others will meet your needs.
As a reminder, I cannot and do not speak for S6. That being said, there's some commonality in regards to Reshade and how game studios handle players' usage of it. It can provide a benefit, particularly in accessibility, for a many players--e.g. my Stepdad is colorblind and while it's great that there are colorblindness settings in Final Fantasy XIV and they can help a lot of players, there are more nuanced adjustments that he needs that aren't provided by the "vanilla" game experience, and shaders on ReShade help allow him to enjoy playing the game. Because of this, there's often a reluctance to officially decry usage of the tool.
The main issue it presents is that visuals captured while ReShade is on do not accurately represent the game's appearance. Most folks taking pictures with ReShade in the XIV community use hashtags to indicate the usage of ReShade, or state that the images have been altered/edited. (There are some other problem folks who don't but that's a whole other can of worms.)
Most studios tend to not action on the usage of ReShade, particularly since it does have personal accessibility benefits; however, that comes with a caveat that there's always a chance that they will need to start actioning and enforcing it, so there's always some level of risk, no matter how small, to utilizing this tool.
My biggest concerns are:
- Anyone getting in trouble for helping with setting it up because of grey area. It seems like it could become a #💻│tech-help issue as well as here possibly.
and/or
- S6 using that as a cop out to avoid making tools for those not able to make use of Reshade due to Switch or just finding the process too complicated.
^ All of that. Also reshade, even just using brightness settings, can affect performance and Palia is already fairly unoptimized as is
Yep and those are both valid concerns--I was merely offering my hypothesis on where things fall as far as using it as a stopgap measure, and why we haven't (and likely won't) hear anything official. Everyone should absolutely use their own judgement and gauge the risk/reward/performance for themselves. ❤️ I've been hesitant to link anything about it in my document as well--if we go by the way the XIV community handles it, any conversations using third-party tools are taken elsewhere, e.g. other servers, DMs, etc. I highly doubt S6 would bring down the hammer on someone trying to do this for accessibility at this point, but safest policy is to redirect those conversations to DMs or elsewhere off-server, in my opinion.
And yes--regardless of the existence of ReShade, they need to build the accessibility out better in the base game, so it's there for all players. They made an attempt with the gamma slider, but as many have pointed out, it's not helping the way it was intended, so we're telling them that so they can continue to iterate. Thank you all for continuing to try the game, for giving their attempts a chance, and for giving honest and specific feedback on what's working and what's not. Y'all are a treasure, and even when I'm feeling like garbage, it's so fulfilling and gives me joy to come in here and read your messages and chat together.
Just want to say thank you for understanding where people are coming from, and trying to see all points & even explain different sides to it to some regard.
Because it definitely can help players, but like you and others have said, it isn't always perfect and things similar.
Just, yes, thank you again for understanding and seeing where people are coming from.
(Also, i hope youre starting to feel better and things are going okay! Still sending positive vibes and things your way 🫂 )
Aww, thank you! I'm having some improvement, but it's a long process. ❤️
I'm looking forward to when I can drop down from having to take a full pharmacy of meds to my usual half a pharmacy
That's a mood for me rn now. 😅 It's getting there though.
Acrophobia - The fear of heights. I have this in spades. Most ladders I won't climb up IRL as I don't feel firmly on the ground / safe. Yet things like rollercoasters I have no problem with as my feet are in the cart and its on the solid track.
Some video games really mess me up with this. The 'Silver Winging-It' quest and the follow up egg quests are pretty much out of the question for me. Maybe its the wind with the level design but while attempting the jump puzzle its as if I can see myself in the characters shoes and experience what is happening when they fall. Its a feeling in the pit of my stomach that is hard to quantify. But this is something I've experienced my whole life.
There are plenty of games that don't trigger this at all. Most of the time I can just reason with myself that it isn't real, what I'm seeing is just a textured background or nothingness. But as games have progressed over time, this feeling becomes stronger more and more.
Right now I'm unable to complete these strings of missions. I would hope that there is a way to either credit myself for them, some sort of 'mercy' mode for people who struggle with them or actual changes to the level design. I really enjoy Palia as a cozy sim life game with romance. The sheer anxiety I'm getting from this jump puzzle isn't worth it.
the falls in palia are a bit too good in general - I often glide a bit to break up a fall to avoid that stomach drop feeling - and a lot of people have talked about temple of the gales being extra bad. There isn't currently away around quests and temples are part of the main quest line so them being such a headache on the accessibility front is a serious barrier
I did notice that in the Temple of Roots, I kept missing my jump and falling and then eventually after one of the falls it loaded me onto the platform in front of the button I needed, and they mentioned they were working on some alternate pathing options so that may be part of it.
I just want to say that I experience the same thing-- I struggle to even 'glide' in palia sometimes because of it. I have nothing really to add to what you said, because you summed it up quite well, but I wanted you to at least know that you're not alone.
It's be great if they went back and added some alternate routes and aides like they did for the first time in temple of roots. I'd also love a way to terminate a fall and go back instead of having to go through the whole fall - this would be good everywhere but especially in any puzzles like the temples
Happened to me too. I haven't checked in detail, but felt consistent to me.
VALIIIDDAAATIOOOOONNNNN!
I swear I remember there being a way to auto-cook — is that not a thing anymore?
if there was a way they removed it awhile ago for the sake of "economic stability"
That’s fair
not rly since there isnt even an economy to ruin. nerfing things in the ground to stop speedrunners but punishing everyone in the process is such a smart idea /s :kek:
I don't remember there being an "auto cook" unless it was there sometime before closed beta :[
But it is something that should be in the game for sure. They could even have it on a timer or something so it doesnt feel like it's "Faster" exactly compared to doing it manually.
Could also be a "watch a video of each action instead of doing it yourself" option...
I really love the cooking in Palia, so I hope whatever accessibility version they add to it would be an optional way to present it if people turned off QTE(quick time events) in settings or something. Because many games do it that way for people who like minigames like that to be able to still do it but have a No QTE setting under accessibility settings that would just play all the animations of you cooking when you go to each cooking station and select the right thing to cook next or something.
I actually have issues with QTE in most games largely because of some degenerative diseases I have. So I'm always noticing games that have an option to change the QTE in some way or remove them entirely.

even from a non-accessibility standpoint, optional auto-cooking would be great! im sure many people besides myself find constantly needing to cook a bit frustrating, especially with the more complex recipes. i eat everything up quite quickly and get really annoyed having to stop whatever i was doing to devote 20-25mins cooking 20 chaapa masala or phoenix relleno :P
Maybe you were thinking of the campfires as auto cooking?
Yeah, we've never had auto-cooking aside from the campfire Admiralsky mentioned, which is only technically such because there's no additional step--just yeet the meat onto the grill and you're done.
Definitely would love options to make cooking accessible and more enjoyable for a wider variety of folks though!
I love the small gameplay, but was also frustrated at doing the same thing for so little. maybe it would be ok if you cook it 5 times (or something like that) to consider it a 'mastered' dish and gain auto-cook?
i imagine they dont have auto cook on a bunch of recipes entirely for balancing reasons, but it would be nice to be able to auto finish particular steps
one thing that i think would make it better is if they doubled cooking times if you're cooking solo. i've noticed a lot of recipes are borderline impossible solo because of how many steps there are, like one of the subira ones
also give an option to turn the chopping tasks into stirring since the chopping ones can be inaccessible for a lot of people
yeah, there are a few in particular where the flowchart for what order you need to do the steps in are so complicated even when you have multiple players
I think it would be nice for them to add some "more complex" (more ingredients/longer time, but not more complex gameplay wise) recipes to the fire. Something like a grilled buffet maybe where it takes some meat, some mushrooms, salt, and cooking oil as ingredients, and it takes 30s-1m to cook, but then it gives you something with 250-300 focus.
would love an option to cancell the cooking and get half my ingredients back..
Wish the gamma option was instead a brightness slider. All the gamma does is make the game look like a deep fried meme to me
It doesn't help my eyes but hurts them more and the UI doesn't even get darker. It's still just as bright which isn't how the whole slider thing works
Deep fried meme is a great descriptor. 😂
Think of it
yeah UI scaling is on the list of things they're working on with no stated eta - https://palia.com/news/dev-update-7 - and easily one of the top requests
That said, we also want to share that additional quality-of-life and accessibility features on the horizon, such as:
Brightness sliders
Colorblind features
UI and text adjustments
id love to be able to make my toolbars smaller and have more of them visible on screen
so two things , 1) really need an in game system reminder about maintenance, was just playing and had no idea there was maintenance today , thought my computer crashed. And 2) If this game wants to be multilingual I think an auto translator in game is in order, nothing more frustrating than not being able to read all of chat and give assistance. cant help if I don't know what they need. not really an accessiblity issue , but im sure this will get the the right folks.

I would also love the ability to change where the tools are in the tool wheel. The bug bag is in a difficult spot for my fingers to open quick enough.
I'm pretty sure you could rearrange them. I'll check when the game comes back up.
would love to be able to put markers on the map. i’m pretty new so idk if the resource nodes move at all but being able to mark where they are or the rummage piles or whatever would be super helpful
@halcyon locust On PC in the inventory screen you can drag and drop the tools into different slots. It just has to be over the other icon and you should see the background in the new slot change if you are hovering in the right spot.
I would assume Switch has a similar function.
It has, Tool wheel open and then press, I think Y.
sigh, guess its only brightness and not brightness and contrast huh, bummer
For clarity: Gamma adjusts brightness and contrast together, focusing on the midtones. It's a valuable piece in gaming, and a standard offering, but with the lighting in Palia, we need more than that--we need brightness and contrast each on their own as well.
You can manually set a way point, if you're in a party you can see the members plus a party way point if it's set, NPCs have map markers (they show as ? If you haven't met them yet), and quests have markers.
Both rummage piles move each day but have a handful of possible spawn points and resource nodes are sorta static but shared (a mining node could have 1-3 different ore nodes and a foraging nodes can have 1 - 6 different items)
Fan made maps like palia interactive maps can give you an idea of how much overlap there is between nodes, makes it tough to read the map
That sounds like a shutdown which was not the intent, more info dump really. Being able to put more than 1 way point on the map would be nice, not sure if there's a limitation there with the switch like there is with plot items. Not sure how marking resources would work with the volume.
Oh! Also, there are special items you can craft or buy from the guild stores when the corresponding skill is at least lvl 10, those items show you current high value resources in that skill for a bit on your compass and the map.
From how I understood things, the item limit on Switch is due to there being too many polygons for the Switch to still render them correctly. I don't think that'd be an issue with waypoints, though I might be missing something.
A minimap would be awesome
yeah, tears of the kingdom has multiple pins (and by multiple I mean you can put a lot on there- from what I found on reddit the cap is 300!), so the switch should be able to handle it
Henlo all!! I am rarely around due to real life events but I like seeing this channel so lively
This worked. Thank you sooo much
so all the resource nodes on and labeled for each individual resource would probably be too many put getting like 10 way points would probably be fine
Is there a way to increase text size on switch? With where I sit to my tv and with the colours of red in dark blue it’s at times very difficult to see what numbers are what in crafting menus when trying to find out what I need, I imagine it’s worse for any with dyslexia for letters or numbers
There isn't, unfortunately. Would be nice, though!
No text or ui scaling yet, but it's on the coming soon ™️ list
Please tell me I'm not the only one who struggles greatly with how the furniture inventory in the chests works (or rather: does not work). It is so incredibly cluttered it just became a big barrier for me as a person with very little energy. No way to search for items, no tabs for certain item types/sets, everything in one place without the ability to rearrange things and no way to sort it by hand as everything is linked to one pool of chests. My brain is just so overwhelmed that I don't feel I will touch decorating my house anytime soon.
The same goes for the crafting menu, it takes me forever to even find the stuff I want to craft because there is no way to save eg. favourites, recent crafts or most crafted recipes. It just uses up so much unneccessary energy.
I feel like the decorating part is a big appeal of the game, so I wonder why it's so unintuitive and has so many big barriers? (And this is coming from someone who went through 1000h of super-slow AC:NH crafting + housing.
)
Some folks have taken to using one (or more) of their alternate plots as a sort of garage.
Where they put out all the extra furniture in storage so they can see it and make it easier to pick from + it shortens your storage list.
You'll need a harvest house (or the makeshift tent if you aren't using it) on your garage plot to put up wall decorations.
Ceiling lights require the house though cause the tent doesn't have ceiling anchor points.
I have this problem, too. My GF told me to put my wallpapers in my lockbox, so that’s at least something I can actually find. I put my favorite items in there, too, but limit it. I just want a list where I don’t have to scroll through a huge number of items. Crafting is a nightmare because of this. I know what items look like but have too many to put time into making an alt plot for things.
I agree with all of that, it's very overwhelming the way it's organized (and storage in general) and that we can't reorganize it to make it work well for us
I also wish there was a storage menu in the regular placement mode like there is on the plot placement/edit mode - I don't know what I have or what I want and it's a pita to go back and forth for items, it's part of the reason I haven't decorated
When I read this my brain was very divided between a) this is quite a creative solution, I should try it and b) trying it sounds like an even bigger barrier that would require even more energy.
That people need to come up with these kinds of workarounds pretty much proves that there is some kind of problem with how the system works atm. Apparently I'm not the only one who would expect better from a game that is supposed to be cozy. Because for me, the crafting/housing doesn't feel cozy at all.
I hope they work on it because other than that I really enjoy the game despite its little flaws and bugs.
I actually do that too! I put wallpapers and stuff like fences in my lockbox so it at least looks a little bit tidier.
👍🏻
Sadly the item icons are so small I often get confused by what is what when scrolling through the list...
For me it helps because some of the items look nothing like what's on the icons since they are all concept art that's never been revised to match what was modeled. 😓
It also potentially helps with plot loading times as well because it doesn't have to populate all that furniture in storage into the list. While they don't take up numerical space the items are still there.
But no it's definitely not an ideal solution.
Yeah, I feel the same about the icons - and usually they are too small to be fully recognizrd too. It's enough for items like ingredients but most furniture items have too much detail for the size. I play on Switch, so that just adds to the problem I fear haha.
I haven't been playing for too long, just started like two weeks ago, so I don't know if theseconcerns have already been moved forward to the devs?
It's always worth putting in a feedback form. Especially since you play on a Switch. https://palia.info/feedback
Palia Player Feedback.
Thanks, I shall do that when I find the energy
Somebody speak french here ?
Not perfectly since it's not my first language but I can try to help if you need it.
Hi all! Glad you're working together to work things out. Just a gentle and friendly reminder that this server is English only for the moment, as that is the only language the mod team can moderate
Sorry Ratcatcher. I'll (try to, at least) keep it in mind.
SOPHIA, if you want to keep talking in french, you can dm me. I don't know much more for repairing it though. The only idea I have is the time on your device. If nothing works, you can contact the support at https://support.palia.com , or you can ask in #🐣│palia-newbies or #🤝│quest-help .
Thanks! It's an awkward thing to ask, and I know communicating in a first language is the best way to get help (particularly on accessibility issues) but it's just not something we can accurately moderate at this time
thank you for understanding!
It's totally understandable why you ask for it :-)
There’s a french palia discord server! (tu peux aller sur le discord palia fr si tu galère avec l’anglais)
@tulip spire I don't found it
I just sent you an invite if you wanna check it :D
I've submitted a feedback report for this in the past but I'm gonna try here:
The text size on the Switch is practically unreadable. Inventory squares should be larger, and letters in particular look silly (2 or three lines of very small text on an otherwise blank page). I don't have vision problems, it's just actually that small. Regardless, the ability to change text sizing is a very standard accessibility accommodation. I'm sure it's probably fine on a television but it's truly awful on the screen of the Switch, especially if you are playing on a Switch Lite and can't dock.
Can confirm, and the one or two times I tried playing things on TV that made stuff even harder to read for me.
Hey I’m need help this game help me my autism please
Yeah. When plugged into the dock the game is pretty much unplayable. If you’re on switch you kinda HAVE to play handheld if you want to see anything
It’s pretty annoying :/
I'm surprised to hear it's worse on the tv 😆 wild
For me it’s the opposite :0
Well with the handheld you can hold it close to your face. On the tv, unless you’re very close or have a very large TV, the text is too small to read, or at least, very difficult. It’s not a huge deal but it is quite annoying
I suppose it really depends on how big your tv is / where you sit while playing. If your set up has you close to the tv or your tv is very large then yeah, you won’t really have this issue. But if you’re seated a bit farther away and/or your tv is smaller it’s very difficult.
For me my tv is around medium to small, and my bed is like 2 yards from it.
Oh gotcha, I was picturing bad resolution-scaling but that makes sense
If I was sitting closer it probably would be easier
Easy improvement would be allowing folks to customize font size to their own liking. That way people who like how it currently is can still carry on as usual but players with vision impairments, or those who simply benefit from having a larger (or smaller, if thats your cup of tea) font can still enjoy
Again, not a huge deal, but it would be nice
I agree. Usually my vision is rather good, but even I struggle with some of the texts!
Yes!! This would be amazing!
Thank you for posting this. I'm autistic too. I'm running around by myself a lot. I see lots of messages in the chat but I don't understand what everyone is saying. Thank you for this game. I feel bad complaining because it looks like people put a lot of work into it.
If you see a message or a shorthand that you don't understand you can always ask here what it means. I'm sure people will be happy to help explain it.
For example:
FT = Flow tree
pal = Palium, they might also add sml, med or lrg to let you know how big a size the node is.
B3 (or something similar) = is referring to the grid location if you look at your map.
If they mention a name e.g Thorny they are again talking about a named place on the map. In this case thorny thicket.
Grove = the flow tree grove that spawns daily
Autistic player here too! I find myself just ignoring the chat much of the time as callouts (posting in the chat where rare resources can be found) are appreciated but not mandatory. I think it's considered bad manners to chop down flow trees by yourself because the resource is considered so rare, and the large flow trees can only be cut down by at least two players anyway, but I wish that wasn't the case because I find it really difficult to ask for help and just want to be left alone most of the time I'm playing
i do wish there was a way to disable chat too, mainly because it flickers a lot and im photosensitive
there are times when i have to stop playing cause it flickers so much
Does the streamer mode disable chat? I thought there was an option there, but I may be wrong
You can also click the little circles but chat might still flicker
For real?
It technically does but it still flickers 🙃
Same problem I have!
How about because the game is too dang bright since a few patches in x.x i need a dimmer
yeah, everything has a brighter glow now and the new gamma slider doesn't seem to do much to that glow
Thank you so much for this
Part of me is pondering after I figure out the game more creating a discord server just for Autistic people. Such a thing has its pros and cons so I'm not sure yet. The pro is that like minded people can be helped by those who figured it out before and know how to present information and tasks. The con I so far see is the point of playing games like this is that we interact with different people. Also, Autism being a spectrum means that what helps me and a few others, may not help everyone on the spectrum. Haha that's why it's called a spectrum 😂
it's pretty common to have discords where people coordinate different sorts of parties and hang out in voice chat and such but it can be a lot of work to run a discord server and you're right that differing (even occasionally competing) needs is a thing (though thats mostly neutral)

very random but i feel like some pple (myself included) have issues telling ettiquite with flow trees and stuff. having in-game pop ups informing u of groves, proudhorns, pal nodes-- specifically groves-- i feel like would do a great job of informing people of the rough expectations for ettiquite without making anyone angry. ive seen it happen a few times (and i myself did it at first and didnt understand until i was informed) and i feel like a lil 'tutorial' suggestion might help w avoiding awkward situations like that
i agree, or like a loading screen tool tip would be nice.
I feel like there should be a greater attempt to post the information to steam.
A lot of people don't want to sit in discord for their information, and would rather just check the in game client that the game is hosted on. I think there should be a better attempt to actually post the patch notes to steam, the updates there, etc so the steam hub doesn't look/feel abandoned/dead.
also one other thing i thought of tho this one is defo personal preference. i have trouble like explaining my silly little brain and conveying ideas and emotions so i usually use tone tags but idk if that works in these sorts of games since most pple dont understand those 😅 so i sometimes just use emojis but there arent too many emojis in game
its not a needed thing i think?? but a few more emojis for range would b awesome i think for those of us who rely on them sometimes to get our tone across
Hello! Hard of hearing with sensory issues. Is there a way to turn down the volume of the waterfall (which I find physically painful) but then not affect the rest of the foliage? If I turn down the waterfall to where I can tolerate the sound, I can no longer hear the plants and bugs.
unfortunately there aren't individual sliders for things :/ so not at the moment
I am still being froze out of EU server. Whether I am playing on my PC or through Steam. Its just a pain now
#🦋│issues-discussions might be able to offer some suggestions on things you can try.
im a bit late to this but i would defo appreciate this feature! Like maybe an advanced audio settings type thing
hello, I'm having a big problem in my quest to get Siyuu's torch for the chamber of mysteries. In fact he gives me the torch but siyuu always repeats the same sentences to me, those that block me from accessing the labyrinth for my Quest "A CATALYSTING CAPER" WITH THE FIRE TEMPLE 🔥
#🤝│quest-help Might be able to assist with this.
(Cross posted from general) Hi all, but of an odd query perhaps but here goes. I am a qualified disability support worker and am planning on using Palia as a social skill learning platform. I've played the game and think this would be a great game for it. I was wondering if anyone has done anything similar with social skills learning with gaming who I could bounce ideas off.
tbh I don't know that I'd recommend palia specifically for that purpose just because there are a lot of key accessibility features (such as text/ui scaling, varied audio sliders, and proper brightness sliders) missing, so if people have disabilities which interact with that, they'd be excluded/less able to participate.
you also can't have a private server in Palia, you'd have to be on a public server w/ random people, so depending on the way you're planning to use it as a social skill learning platform, that could be a drawback
Im agreeing with admiral! It may not be the best. I think you're better off doing games like stardew or Minecraft where you can set up private servers, minecraft also has great accessibility, its used for these things a lot afaik!
Why is the game not accessible to azerty users ?
It's never been officially supported to my knowledge. There might be workarounds though.
I find it impressive to let us change the controls but not enough to make it azerty compatible..
Unless something has changed lefties can't really rebind WASD either. (Editing afterward because I was misinformed.)
And some other functions are also hard coded to certain buttons. It is definitely silly.
It's a matter of setting up an option to select a keyboard layout and tying that to a list of valid keys for binds.
Belatedly, I'm a leftie and have always been able to rebind WASD to the arrow keys in Palia. The only key rebinding that doesn't work for me is reminding the middle mouse key. My mouse doesn't HAVE a "middle" key, and I don't think I've ever owned a mouse that had a "middle" key.
Mouse without a scroll wheel? :|a (Clicking it is middle mouse button.)
Yeah, it doesn't have one of those. It's a trackball mouse.
Ahh that'd do it.
I think the specific issue (which is why it's considered a lefty issue) is that 'k' can't be unbound from the camera, so people who want to use ijkl for movement (generally lefties) can't do so
That was probably what I saw in issues/tech help.
Idk of this has been discussed but I don't have the greatest eyesight.
I play both pc and switch and I would love an option to change the size of the UI/Text and the FOV.
They announced there are UI etc improvements planned, what exactly and when remains unknown though. FOV should be able to change on PC if I remember correctly (not 100% certain but I think it's in the settings somewhere).
https://palia.com/news/dev-update-7
That said, we also want to share that additional quality-of-life and accessibility features on the horizon, such as:
Brightness sliders
Colorblind features
UI and text adjustments
so I will actually be working one on one with individuals who have don't have many moter control issues. I am using Palia specifically for the psychosocial settings and we won't be focusing so much on the chat itself. With some clients this will be a challenge with others they will focus solely on the game itself rather than chat.
I do appreciate feedback though as it keeps me thinking about things I may not have thought of.
You might also check if anyone in your group has seizures or migraines. There are some effects in the game that trigger these for some players.
Dunno if this has ever been brought up before and a very minor complaint compared to all sorts of other issues that have been noted, but I wish they had some sort of visual alert a flare has gone up other than, y’know, the flare itself. For those of us who are deaf/HoH, we rely on people to tell the chat when/where they send a flare, and plenty of people just send one and don’t declare it (which I get! Especially playing on Switch cos typing is the worst lol.) But if I can’t hear the flare and don’t see it cos I’m not looking at the sky at that point in time… it’s lost to me. I also think that this was just exacerbated by the update to how mining nodes work (which I really love and am so happy with), the fact that flares last longer than nodes (which I get cos it keeps a rare resource more rare to have it disappear faster than the flare) sends me on wild goose chases when I see something nearby. An optional visual cue whenever a flare is launched nearby might be helpful.
Sorry for the novel 😅
Yes agreed! Tbh a setting to let flares just be marked on the map would be so nice also to help along that same line of it being difficult to find flares at times
yeah even an option to add them to the compass would be something.
I'd really appreciate it if, when I'm trying to craft something and I'm missing an item, the red of the text could maybe be changed because the dark ish red on dark ish blue doesn't allow me to read it. Also if that text can be bigger cause even with my switch in the dock the number text is just too small
I agree! In general, having a visual cue for all the sounds that is, a little more obvious than it is now. Apparently one can hear groves, too, a visual way to show it sure would help a ton.
I'd say even an automated chat message saying "someone sent a flare x m away from you" or so would be good, then I'd know to look!
I was just thinking the other day that maybe a small dot on the compass part at the top of the screen might be useful for this!! Kind of like how it appears when you ping a location/character, but maybe just a specific colored dot or something. Might get a little hectic if multiple people have multiple flares out though, so I agree that some sort of notification or something would be nice!
multiple people with multiple flares...or me just trying to work out how my shots are failing to kill a deer, only to realise I've still got flares selected not arrows haha 😆
Did that yesterday, had to send out to chat to ignore it because 2 people came by thinking it was a pal mine 🫣😂 Nope, just me not switching ammo 😭
Hello there ! I think i lack a slider for buying amounts of items , or something similar to a slider in every store ! 🙂
Similar to the workbench thing? Sure would be handy!
Yep !!! It would be easier to grab multiple items at once , since i do buy multiple seeds and poop for my farming activities 🙂
I know it is a silly thing , but i don´t want to click several times the same if that function was available
can we get a mini map? i am incredibly directionally challenged and constantly find myself going the complete wrong way even though I check the main map constantly 😭
!feedback might be the place to go, since I'm not sure if S6 will see it here. Unfortunately there so far isn't one, but if you have a specific spot you want to go to, you can put a marker there and it'll appear on the compass.

unfortunately I play with a touchpad so I don't have the middle scroll button to place the marker down :(
Is there a way to rebind it to another key? Not sure how that stuff works on PC...
I tried but it doesn't save the keybind for some reason
That's odd, it really should... #💻│tech-help might be the experts if you want to see if there's a way to rebind it, or maybe also #🤝│game-help .
I'll be sure to ask later because I don't currently have my laptop on me, thank you <3
Good luck!
Is there any information around making the game's control-scheme more accessible to non-QWERTY keyboard users?
Eg: automatically detect which keyboard you have and switch the mapping around accordingly, "WASD" becoming "ZQSD" for AZERTY-users for example
Would be nice, unfortunately the only thing you can do is changing the keys in the game's menu. I rarely am on PC, so not sure how exactly that works, Zeliska above seemed to have issues with it though.
yeah i cannot unbind any keys and having dublicate keys isn't allwoed either, so i'd have to first bind certain keys to something else so that i can get the wasd moved to zqsd (z is the quest menu otherwise)
it's quite the hassle
i'm currently just switching my key mapping to qwerty using the alt shift windows shortcut, which would be a workaround i suppose
if you have a non-QWERTY keyboard you'd probably be better off using AutoHotKey than the game's native rebinding due to some hardcoded keys not making sense on non-QWERTY
Re: rebinding the middle mouse wheel/button, that has never worked for me, not since I started playing the game.
Is there a way to make the pets not make noise? their sounds irritate me so much I dont use them even though i bought outfits almost explicitly for a pet
There isn't unfortunately
I would love to turn that off. Because the sounds actually sound like someone squeezing a small animal until it squeals, and that is so incredibly triggering for me.
that and lowering the sound of opening the map (and inv, that whole section), its pretty loud compared to every other noise, and i wish i could just turn that one down itself, or even off. i think a paper (like grabbing/opening a map) would be better imo
I wish there was a search bar in the chests so it’s easier to find stuff
It would be really nice to be able to zoom in and out the camera. Fiddling with the options everytime I want to change my FOV is pretty tiresome after a while 😦
and an option to only sort stuff in the selling bin that you can actually sell (ex: highest to lowest). i still dont have everything figured out so i have to hover over every individual thing.
Hey folks! Question for people who have given feedback to S6 - how receptive are the team, usually?
(I'm asking because I want to give some accessibility-related feedback, and I'd find it helpful to know where to set my expectations)
Does anyone else has problems getting into palia today? Something about a matching thingy expired?
Not sure if I should sent a bug report or not. Will try to log in again when I get home though.
And with the chat being unreliable at the moment, there's not always a way for someone to tell anyone they've sent up a flare either
They've always been incredibly polite and friendly in response to feedback (to me at least)
How much will actually get done about it depends I think. Some things they are quick to fix, and some things doesn't seem to be prioritised at all..
Again, in conversations they are always friendly and welcoming! 🩷
I didn't contact them directly about accessibility stuff, but can confirm that their customer support people are very friendly.
Personally, I've sent feedback about accessibility and never got a response. I also know some others that have gotten responses for things that weren't accessibility related and their accessibility related feedback was never responded to.
Still send it in just in case, maybe there's a new team looking at it
!feedback form is the only way that it will for sure be seen. i've never seen any form of response either. it's just catalogued for S6 to possibly take into account.

That's v helpful - thank you everyone! @wispy iron @tulip spire @radiant sun @pastel mica
You won't get any response unless you put in your accessibility concerns through bug reports instead of the proper channel of accessibility feedback
they ignore us, but they don't ignore bug reports
Too bad they laid so many folx off because that means they probably won’t hire an accessibility consultant the way they should.
Seconding Minimap request, even if it's some add-on item or grid-compass you have to buy
I have to open the main map every few seconds to reorient myself and the map menu open chime can get maddening as a result -- especially if I'm streaming and have to inflict that noise onto others
Not me using alllllll of my mental spoons giving lots and lots of feedback in the feedback form today 👀 😬
i heavily agree with this. i wrote about it before but honestly the sound for opening the map/any of those tabs should just be a paper sound, something way more pleasing and quiet
Yesss 😂 I know I could turn off the volume on some things but it's a little of a bummer if it's turning off a lot of things just for one specific irk
same! i havent turned off the sound just cause i wanna hear other things. but i think with enough reports about it maybe they'll change it. i definitely have a few bugs and things to report so i might take the time later tonight to send some reports in
I avoid my flowtrees at all costs🤣
Flowtrees on my plot sound like they contain the souls of a thousand anguished Victorian children (basically what I said when I filled out the feedback form on the matter recently).
Cue Zalgo font with FeED uS MotHEr fOr wE aRE BuT sKin anD bOnE XD
"We made a tree that can scream!"
"...But why, though?"
Why are people rolling eyes at what I said? I don't understand; bug reports do get responses
I wish the float trees weren't so loud. I use sound when watering my trees and my body finds their noise to be .... I can't really explain it like it's.... Disruptive... It's very uncomfortable
I can attest to this
I sent in one once about how their disabled players have lost hope because of the lack of information about accessibility features, and got a response saying what I wrote definitely reached the right people. Not long after that we got gamma settings and some very minor changes (we also got the layoffs right after, but I'm assuming that's unrelated
)
To answer this question I ask you draw your attention to exhibit A
I forgot to do The part where I click reply first lol
My guess is that they weren't rolling eyes at you, but at them not responding to feedback? Obviously can't speak for what those people thought, just thinking about potential "for the best" reasons people might have done it
It just occurred to me that anything living with that much flow, to the point it's overflowing and uncontainable, would probably be screaming... So at least it's accurate
It makes me wonder if the furniture we craft with it should also scream 😳
Sit down on a chair and "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH"
My eye roll wasn't aimed at you, but at the fact that they seem to pay more attention to bug reports than accessibility issues. I was trying to convey my disappointment, but I realise now that was an ambiguous reaction to use! Sorry! (and thank you for the heads-up)
I just want to leave this here. The September 12th update left me completely unable to fish in Palia, and I know there are others out there who were caught up in this as well. Obviously, this left me at a severe disadvantage, as I was unable to participate in things like vaults, cooking, several key quests, and any hope left of obtaining my coveted Makeshift items. A friend with the same dexterity issues as myself has recently reached out to me to tell me that the space bar can now be rebound to reel in fish, at the expense of using it to jump. While it does mean I must switch back and forth between the two keybinds, I am finally able to navigate past the wall that has kept me from a large portion of the game. I hope others out there see this so they know it is once again possible for some of us with accessibility issues to fish in the game.
Can't say for sure, but my impression is that they are rolling eyes at the devs/at this channel not actually being useful for communicating. Eyerolling at the message, not at you the messenger
Just popping in to say that I haven't forgotten about y'all--my day job kicked up in intensity and the layoffs are hitting me in the feels in a big way, so I'm doing a lot of internal processing right now.
I'm relatively new to the name about 2 months now. I'm HOH and was wondering if there's been any discussion on creating an option to toggle off/on to see things on screen and /or the map for sounds? ie the grove spawning, the noises of the magical creatures like when Glambi disappears and reappears, etc. I often miss out on some things so I was curious 😺
the magical creatures should have sparkles or lights along their trail as they do their magic move (hunting horn will also show icons on the compass and map for magical creatures) and they've said no to a minimap (we're still asking though), but something on the compass for the grove (so it's still a hint like the sound) has come up and that could be nice for an animal you've gotten a hit on too - definitely worth submitting as feedback (consider this discord unmonitored given their lack of community managers, size of the discord, and their greatly reduced staff)

tbh, since the CMs used to be the ones reviewing the feedback form, I'm concerned that could also be currently unmonitored
That risk certainly is there, but I'd say it's the best chance we have...
oh yeah, definitely the best chance we have, I just say that because I know in the past people have mentioned having to gather a lot of spoons to give feedback, so if a person was gathering spoons and had to decide between the feedback form and something else, it may be helpful to making a decision (of course, how anyone spends their spoons is their business and the feedback form is the best chance we have left of getting feedback heard, it just may be a lower chance now than it was in the past)
Official controller support with in-game indicators?
Hi, I'm new here, but I just wanted to say hunting is huge challenge as a person who has disability related issues with it. And using chat isn't really a solution because those same disabilities make it difficult to type and see what I'm writing without being able to edit the typos that being visually impaired lead to.
I know it's meant to be a social thing, but some people have disabilities that make being social with strangers extremely challenging. I find it so hard to just play with a group of strangers no matter how nice or helpful people are being because I just completely freeze up around people, even virtual people. I wish there was a way to toggle a setting to make stuff a bit easier for people like me. I know that could lead to people exploiting it sadly, but it would also mean everyone could play regardless of their abilities.
And I also just discovered the tower. But I can't even make it past the first few jumps. And I never will. It's also an area that is off limits to me because of my disability. I wish there was a toggle for the tower as well so I could at least see it. I don't care about achievements associated with it, I just want to experience everything without feeling left out.
I have some disability related challenges to the game too and have been wondering if there's a community in-game for those of us who struggle with them?
I wonder if there's a community for people who want to play solo, but still be part of a community. Like one that's super casual, without requirements for using chat. Basically made up of people who also struggle with in game chat.
this! I want to get my medals for the things to do together and i think something available along these lines would be helpful
I scrolled through some of the community's on the LFG thread, but all the ones I saw had age requirements and I have a young child who also wants to play. I would find it hard to join a community she couldn't be a part of.
Worst case you can set up a community for yourself and them.
That's what I'm thinking of doing. I think it would be best. But I'm still so new to the game so I don't fully understand how they work. Plus I don't necessarily want the responsibility of being a leader incase I do open it to others.
I remember once setting up a guild in a game called Merge Dragons that was just supposed to be me and my daughter for fun. But we quickly reach max capacity.
And while everyone was super friendly and very awesome. I hated feeling like I had a responsibility and playing soon became a chore and not fun just because I felt like I had to because I couldn't let everyone down. I also had some major health issues and was going to have surgery so I eventually passed leadership on to someone else and quit playing.
I just am afraid of that happening again. I know I need to invite people, but in the end I will end up inviting others like me even if I don't intend to.
Communities in Palia are essentially just a chat channel at the moment. And the game will try and put you and your kiddo in the same server/instance if you are both playing at the same time.
That's helpful to know💜
Also, the amount of people in communities is rather small (in my opinion). Similar to the same size as Merge Dragons. I think Palias' limit is 30 people or lower? (been a bit)
I heard 20 or 25, I'm not entirely sure which but almost certain it was one of them.
And the invites aren't open so you would have to invite folks if you want them in.
I just know it's less than 30. Just been a while 😅 And remember always thinking it was small.
I feel like I read 25 on the wiki?
25 sounds right since that's the size of a server.
Yeah, def sounds right.
I just wanted to bring it up, since I know it can be important to some people! Esp for people who might not want to be part of a huge group and prefer it being smaller or vice versa
I would love subtitles with a hard contrast aka a more colorful background. It's hard to read sometimes
Is there any reason given for not implementing a minimap? Feels like a wierd thing to not implement in a game with such huge maps.
As far as I know, they didn't give a reason other than "they weren't planning on it."
#💬│palia-discussions message
I had to go digging, but I found the given reason.
TLDR: "we want you to learn to navigate through landmarks instead of just staring at your minimap all the time"
I wish they'd said that in one of the dev updates or something too instead of having to go Discord fishing to find a response. Since this was from way before #🌟│sixer-tracker existed.
ty <3 I tried my best to find it, but I really couldn't, other than them saying "they weren't planning on it."
It's not a good reason from an accessibility standpoint. Which we have pointed out and attempted to escalate through feedback and the CMs ad nauseum. I have no idea if they're ever going to budge on it, no matter how many times the CMs shared with the higher-ups how much we wanted and needed one.
Oops, it seems I forgot the sugar in my coffee this morning...
Just wanting to say hey, Melodic, hope you're feeling alright and feeling better!
And yeah, I agree. Definitely not a good reason, in general-- accessibility or otherwise. Minimaps help so much for all parties imo.
yep, I agree, it's not a good reason at all. x.x
It's not. Which might be part of why it was left buried tbh.
I have the impression accessibility-friendly options tend to help a wide range of people, not only those who'd ask for accessibility.
Correct/i agree! And it's why I usually try to bring it up so other ppl can view it that way too! It's just a habit of mine at this point haha 🥲
Yep--that's the best part of Accessibility! ❤️
We love the curb cut effect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curb_cut_effect
the phenomenon of disability-friendly features being used and appreciated by a larger group than the people they were designed for.
It got the name from curb cuts being good not only for wheel chair users but also people with shuffling gaits, toddlers, people using walkers and rollators, strollers, various shopping/grocery laundry carts, and more
Below are some examples of the curb cut effect.Closed captioning used by hearing people.
Curb cuts on sidewalks used for strollers, suitcases, etc.
Large print used when reading by those without visual impairment.
Game accessibility features in video games used by players with no disabilities.[5]
Text-to-speech applications used by seeing people.
(emphasis mine)
I wonder if the #🌟│sixer-tracker could be used on older stuff, if the mechanic they use would work anyway
It should. All a mod or sixer would have to do is 📌 react on a tweet for it to show up in the channel.
It's meant to be like the Blue Tracker that blizzard has. (This isn't the forum version of it but similar.) https://www.wowhead.com/blue-tracker
wow the announcement (& dev update but I haven't read it yet) is quite the overhaul of how the game works but didn't mention direct accessibility things
it's a complete rebalancing of skills, recipes, & economy plus more premium things in additional animals(cute) and tool skins(pretty) plus the upgraded detailed building plus hotpot in the underground - so yeah lots of things people have been asking for that should help retention & engagement to an extent, but still no new mention of improved accessibility though the patch notes will have actual details since this is just a plan/announcement to keep/create buzz
Honestly, even though I'm disappointed in their decisions re: the cash shop, it's once again clear that there's no care about making the game accessible. When will there be an actual effort? The gamma slider was a poor attempt and the things they mentioned previously are nowhere to be found in the patch notes /gen
Considering they just laid off a lot more people.... 😦
No chance of earnable pets or tool skins ever I guess. 😓
I'm glad for the building changes though. It'll be nice for those with limited play time.
The lack of accessibility being mentioned, again, makes me sad.
They said even during the alpha that pets would never be earnable.
I wish they'd gone the base being free and sell the skins. The basic could've just been the brown one or something.
If it's mentioned at all, any accessibility feature is likely to show up under a Quality of Life (QoL) header--I cannot fathom why some places seem afraid to use the word Accessibility for these things.
the wombo combo of "we just laid off a lot of people" + pushing more cash shop things in the same announcement makes me a little 🤢
It's been very, very clear their development focus has been, in order of priority, 1) cash shop items 2) "rebalancing" aka making the grinds more grindy 3) cosmetic items you can purchase with in-game currency that no one really asked for but are cute, I guess 4) story content 5) fixing bugs and server stability 6) literally everything else
Unless I missed it-- which again, is possible due to me struggling to process info at times-- I didn't see it, at all.
as far as I saw, it wasn't mentioned at all...
Correct--I don't think anything was called out in the dev blog; I meant as an "in general" kind of thing when reviewing the dev blogs, patch notes, etc.
Won't be til actual patch notes if there are any probably.
Oh! I misunderstood in that case. Thank you for clarifying
! And yeah, you're completely right. I always look for both!
every time I come back to play the game, I get so turned off by how difficult things are and how grindy everything is
and the lack of very basic accessibility features
They'll probably never call it 'accessibility' because of how the word is perceived. Even though those updates benefit everyone.
So I'll play for a couple hours, then just go right back to something else out of frustration. That, or I'll get kicked off because the servers are unstable. again.
I would like to make one little request, I would like to be able to take baths in the Bathtubs in Palia. I've been having nightmares about not being able to shower in the Tubs.
I'd like to be able to interact with ANY of the furniture!
re: grinding - that's a mood.
I'm caught on finding a ruby holding up finishing 3 quests. 😓
I get caught on needing an item that only spawns in certain locations/times and the map is juuuuust big enough that getting from one end to another is annoying without some form of fast travel or mount or something, so I find myself thinking "I really can't be btoehred to run all the way over there, this sucks."
I just want something to fix hunting, it's impossible for me to get multiple hits on something on the switch. Either I'm too slow or the darn thing glitches out and clips into the ground. 😭
Controller aiming is awful when you have to be really accurate and there's no aim assist function.
I don't wanna switch to PC since I started played because I needed something simple for the couch/bed.
That makes sense! I also have a switch in addition to my PC, and I find myself wishing I could play some of my PC games on my bed sometimes, but the Switch hardware is so bad that I know the Switch versions of most games are awful haha
Palia on the Switch is extra crunchy
palia updates are a weird experience, I'm usually excited (new things!) and disappointed (still can't fix pain points)
I could probably be more okay with the current state of things if stuff stopped glitching out so frequently. No fun trying to hunt a rare chapaa if it suddenly shoots into the sky.
Like I play Disney Dreamlight Valley for example, and I know the Switch port of that game is TERRIBLE so I didn't even consider it
that's... that's awful
Lmao Disney was my other choice when I decide to download Palia. Man switch, why you gotta be so weak.
It's just showing its age at this point, I think, but game developers should be prepared for what a Switch port means when they decide to do one, especially for an online/live service game like Palia
So projectiles shooting off into space when hunting is inexcusable, entirely.
This game is trash :) Until controller support is actually here it will never be considered a "cozy" game EDIT: considered cozy by me, since subjectivity seems hard to understand for some people.
Controller support is inconsistent and for many doesn't work properly :o) Personally as a Disabled player, controller support is incredibly important especially for a self described "cozy" game /gen
Yeah, like I can't really comment on the controller aspect myself. (The controller I do have, is usually inconsistent as a whole with Steam), but I've heard that it's not always 100% for everyone. And I know Sneaky has asked or mentioned before, that they wanted support with in-game indicators.
And people can define "cosy" however they want for themselves tbh. If the game is inaccessible for them, by not having proper support for the controller they have, then it is not going to be cosy or anything similar.
Keybind rebinding, including that on controller, is very important for accessibility and, unfortunately, Palia doesn't have that feature for a lot of buttons; a sentiment expressed very often in this chat :o)
Especially when, for many people, a game being cozy is synonymous with handheld support. /gen
"overhaul" of the economy, but not to add trading, which would be a feature that would really help from an accessibility standpoint :(
like don't get me wrong, aside from the fact that they continue to add paid pets and no free pet, I like a lot of what they're adding, but the fact that there's no mention of accessibility and doesn't seem to be anything that helps accessibility, after just laying off the people who were our biggest accessibility advocates, is a feels bad from me
Big agree. I really keep hoping they'll have some form of trading. I really want a "flea Market' kind of area, where you have your own stall to sell items to other players. :[ it would just be nice all-around imo.
the lack of accessibility just makes me sad, haha. I really hope there actually is something there, just not.. in that, and will be in the future patch notes that's coming up.
Big agreement. Especially when they could use trading as a bandaid for the accessibility issues that bar players, like myself, from doing certain skills until they can/want to make the actual changes needed.
To be honest there is no reason to not have trading, it's very antithetical to the whole point of a community game; to play with others. /gen
Agreed. There was often the worry that the "economy" would suffer, but there presently isn't any economy, and unless you could sell items to other players and not just trade, there still wouldn't be one exactly.
Really there's no good reason not to let people trade directly with each other like in other traditional MMOs.
Even then, it's so easy to ensure that the economy doesn't suffer; just make it so players can't input custom values for stuff, have everything have a set value that cannot be changed /gen
yeah exactly, I envision trading as a good band aid for fishing, hunting, and bug catching accessibility problems so players can complete bundles/recipes/gifts while the development of accessibility features might take more time to flesh out/ensure they're accessible
Yep, my idea/concept was always having them as set prices-- a little bit higher compared to the sell price to Zeki's. And could even limit it by how many things you can "sell" per day. I mean, either way, I dont' think the economy will suffer anyways, but...
i sorta wonder if trading was ever including in the ideas for communitt/neighborhood features
There was a video a while ago of one of the dev's saying that they considered trading cheating so prolly not /gen
yeah, i didn't expect to see trading in the economy revamp because of this, but I had hoped they maybe reconsidered
I wanna say it was from the First Look livestream (with ye olde alpha footage) but I can't find it anymore.
Nifty new accessible controller - Byowave designed it. It's essentially a build your own controller.
https://www.byowave.com/
Accessible, Customisable, Modular Video Game controller.
Video for it to show how it works - audio is a touch on the louder side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIjOdRGnZjA
But it glows 🥺. Not as accessible for us photosensitive folx. I can’t get UV cured nails because the UV part will affect my fingers 😬.
You can adjust the lights brightness and turn them off entirely.
oh nice, they make the files available for free to 3d print parts yourself that they've designed
I was thinking about accessibility within Palia earlier, and I found that there's a whole channel for it! Well then I suppose I'll express my feelings. I have vision impairments, and I find hunting the blue bristle muujin basically impossible, as they go invisible almost immediately and I just cannot track them. I've tried probably 50 times to no avail. I feel like dashing quickly and into a tree is plenty hard. No chance for me to ever get the mane. 😞
oh I absolutely feel that, muujin in general can be a real pain for a lot of reasons. I know this suggestion may not work because it requires a second person, but the muujin actually give you credit if you chop the tree and someone else shoots it, so if you have a friend, you could chop and they could shoot, so then you'd have a chance to get the mane.
Just to make sure you're aware - this is mostly a channel between players. Would be great if S6 actually came here and implemented some stuff, but that has yet to really happen. I think the community managers used to come here and read through, but layoffs happened so there aren't ones anymore, so it's unclear whether we have a S6 member actively reading in here...
the last time s6 communicated with us was to say we're getting brightness sliders, and then the person was sacked
And we got gamma sliders instead.
i wanted contrast most of all
we've been complaining about contrast since the light update...last year
Is there any links anywhere that's talks about how accessible for deaf people, I want to read the notes of it
I don't think I have any auditory workarounds that we've found for me to add to my sheet in the pins. Unfortunately S6 hasn't really released anything that sums up the accessibility features present in game. The main thing are visual glows, pulses, and flashes they've added to different objects and actions; however, general feedback we get from the Deaf, HoH, and people who play with the sound off because the sounds are overstimulation triggers is that the visual markers aren't sufficient. (On the flipside, there are players with photosensitivity and visual overstimulation triggers that have difficult with the visual effects presently in the game, and there's no way to toggle those down or off). They have added captions for some cutscenes, but I haven't heard confirmation if they went back and added them to the early ones. Most of your quest dialogue is not spoken; however, when interacting with characters, they do tend to say a voice line or two for flavor/personality that isn't captioned anywhere.
There have been requests for diegetic sound, visualizations and/or captions for sounds with references made to the setups in Fortnite, Minecraft, and even Final Fantasy XIV to some extent. At present, we don't have an update on what steps S6 is taking to address those needs or what direction they want to go.
Although that wasn't the cheeriest message to provide, I hope it at least helps answer your question to some extent. ❤️
thank you for taking ur time to answer my question, i appreciate nevertheless 💜
i think this is as close to directly discussing accessibility as an official palia post has gotten https://palia.com/news/dev-update-7
Can confirm what Melodic Blue said. I'm not deaf, just play without sound for other reasons, I didn't try playing with sound a lot but for the things where I tried, the sound did help at least a bit (and I guess if I were used to it it'd help a lot more).
Sound sliders are also pretty all or nothing- you can tune background music, dialogue, and game sounds separately. The issue is that "game sounds" includes environmental sounds (waterfalls, windmills, etc) and gameplay sounds (bugs startled, audio indicators for forageables, flow grove spawn, etc). So it can be hard to hear the necessary sounds over the (very pretty but still) unnecessary sounds.
And as Melodic said, many of these audio indicators have no direct visual equivalent (ex. Even though forageables seems like a minimal thing because you can see the plant, for me the visual difference from a distance between cloves and sweet leaves is minimal, so the audio cue where each play different sounds would be very useful)
So still no help for those with wrist hand disabilities, so many people can’t get past temple of gales to continue progressing in game, now singularity don’t even reply to emails. Guess it shows the integrity of the company really. When game first came out it was meant to be user friendly to all. Clearly disabled people don’t matter and their voices are ignored
It'd be nice to have the option to coop temples if we wanted. So say for example I could go open the flow gates for you to bypass the gliding.
I agree that the sound is pretty crucial in this game, especially out in the woods, listening for flares, animals, etc.
the ignored emails are probably because there's only like 55 people left across all job functions, so either cs straight up can't read them all or support only replies to things they can take action on. Not a good thing of course, but less targeted/antagonistic than choosing to ignore some category of contact
Yeah we don't know who all got hit with a layoff apart from the CMs since they don't have their Discord ranks anymore.
Just got told that I should find other games that cater to my “issues” because of mentioning that my autistic brain can’t just switch to other games while waiting for new content. So great how people treat others on here! Just want a date. That’s all. So I know when I can stop being depressed and bored potentially.
Not everyone has disposable income to buy and try out a ton of other games -.-.
I'm sorry you had that experience. I'm really excited for what is on the horizon for this game! I know it doesn't have the dates you're looking for, but have you checked out the latest patch notes? I'm super keen to get to ||play HOTPOT again!|| https://palia.com/news/dev-update-8
I wish they would sort out the no chat problem. I cant get any on steam or pc account. EU server
Fingers crossed with the next patch. Since they never mention which bugs are dealt with til the patch notes come out. (Though we don't have a date for 0.180 yet.)
...oh wait we do have a date for the patch as of that #palia-news post.
I really hope the chat bubbles will be done in a way we can turn them off. I already have issues with my eyes and focusing on everything in the game, another thing popping up in the world is going to be difficult
i wish an example of it had been in the video
I really hope we'll be able to turn those off. They got old in XIV really quickly.
Yeah I turned a lot of stuff off too for the regular chatbox. But the overhead bubbles is just extra visual clutter for me x_x;;;
Friendly reminder that chat bubbles are not a default feature of Final Fantasy XIV (aside from things certain NPCs say when you walk past them or when going through a dungeon duty with duty support NPCs) for any of the chats. I didn't start playing until around 5.3-ish, so if they were a native feature earlier on in the game, I can't say, but presently nope.
I think chat bubbles can be a great accessibility tool, but it's important to be able to have control of whether or not they appear, size of text and/or bubble (preferably control over both), and the speed at which bubbles appear and fade. I've seen in other games the ability to do such, so it's possible in at least some development environments.
As always, it's all about the options
I want to say they at least used to exist for NPCs early on.
looking forward to more things breaking with more level 5 friendship quests. ^^;;;;
I'm also hoping the chat bubbles are optional. Having a lot on a screen at once gives me vertigo and really hurts the ol ADHD brain, it would be another accessibility nightmare
This might be my most succinct version of a value and dismissal of accessibility in tech rant, so naturally I felt the need to share it here:
The disregard for accessibility is frankly bafflingly short sighted - it opens up your potential userbase by making your site or app usable to more people, makes it usable in more situations (on the train, with a baby asleep on your shoulder, in tough lighting conditions, etc), and easier to translate or localize to further extend your reach while forcing a bit more documentation by dint of the what and how of accessibility requirements are making it more maintainable, but because it takes time to implement and time to integrate before a slow build in users it's disregarded because they need more dau/mau NOW.
Never mind that you'd have more users, more easily retained, and more, very valuable, personal recommendations for growth
Even their feedback form is inaccessible due to it's alarmingly bright background colour /gen
There’s a browser I use that does force dark mode or u can change the colours scheme
I'm aware :o) Just unfortunate that it's yet another thing they decided to make without accessibility in mind /gen
Wait I skipped over chat bubbles bc it wasn't in the dev update, I really really hope that's optional
Yeah they only listed it in the news post for some reason.
The dev update was a plan of new content+ economy changes and said there'd be more in the patch notes after the patch is applied while the social posts are just buzzy things - neither is exhaustive and since the social posts came a little later it could be that the chat bubbles hadn't been greenlit for this patch until after the dev update was written
Ye, I'm aware. It's just an odd thing not to go back and edit in a mention on the dev update.
Eh I get it, it's not the same sort of change as what is in the update and I'd bet a lot of the company is taking tomorrow off either instead of Monday (so they can prep for Tuesday's patch) or in addition to it for a 4 day weekend so there's plenty more to have done today that's more important.
Also, personally, I prefer that they don't edit posts since they've done it before to remove and add things to make it look like it was always that way, rewriting their plans after the fact so having separate updates gives a better timeline of communication that doesn't require hoping for the original to be archived or saved by someone.
I know the dev updates usually aren't exhaustive, I just hadn't expected new news in the social media blurbs because we had gotten a list of quite a few new things yesterday
Help! I just started the quest Eye of the Storm, gonna use spoilers here, || I managed to struggle my way through the first half with collecting the eggs, but the one on the tiny floating island is impossible. So I decided I'll just do it without all 15. ||
I moved on to the next part, and I can't make the jump to get to the top where I'm assuming I need to find whatever to ||pick the lock.|| Where the ladder is curved and you have to jump into the gust. I just can't do it.
Not only that but everytime I miss it, I have to jump across all those tiny broken platforms again and that alone is so hard. Even making the jump to the ladder is hard.
Why do games have to add such impossible things. I know people like challenges, but I feel so defeated again. Everytime I find a game I'm enjoying and can play it becomes impossible because of my disability in my hands. Not to mention the temple itself making me extremely nauseous. I had to take a lot of breaks just to get this far.
Is this a main quest? Will I be stopped from progressing if I can't get through it? I don't want to get attached to the game if this means I can't ever finish.
It is unfortunately a main quest- you can still do friendship quests as usual, but the following temple (and presumably the mainline quests they add later)
Are you on the side of the map with the ||bugs|| or ||fish||? I may have a tip for part the bug area, if that happens to be the specific struggle point.
Unfortunately, yeah, the air temple is the most inaccessible one (and the following temple also has some very tricky jumps). You're definitely not alone with the nausea or the difficulty of it, unfortunately :(
I've already made it past both ||the fish and bugs||. I'm on the final part. At least I thought it was.
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in struggling here but it's disappointing to learn so many others are as well. I hope it's something that gets addressed.
For reference, my favorite game is My Time at Sandrock. And there's a part that has a bit of platforming. But if you miss a few times the game lets you skip it. If you can't reach a treasure chest because of it, the reward becomes available later for sale. So you don't miss anything by skipping parts that are too hard.
It would be a lovely feature to add to Palia.
For roots, except one area you can pretty much walk through/jump down on something super close that really is almost just down/climb up ladders etc, you just have to find the path (at least, I did barely any tricky jumps, gales was way way harder than that)... And I'm not sure if it was a bug, but in that one really hard room I kept falling and at some point it just warped me to the other side after I fell, instead of the start side.
I think ultimately as much as I enjoy Palia, there's too many components of the game that are just not going to be good for me. Catching certain bugs, the ones that require mining or foraging will be way too difficult because I can't function quick enough to catch them. Fishing for certain fish will also be too hard.
I hope the Devs address this in the future but I think it's best if I stop playing now before I get too far. While there are other things I can do while I wait for a change, I don't want to wait for something that may never come.😭
I know that feel. Myself, I just settle for not being able to do these things, because I've always just been Bad At Games due to my physical issues, so I'm used to it. But I can totally understand just wholesale not wanting to mess with the game if you can't do All The Things in the game.
I think I'm just afraid of repeating the experience I had playing Pokemon Legends Arceus, and to a lesser extent Pokemon Go. I'm a huge Pokemon fan. And Arceus was my favorite game of the series until I get to the final mission and ||Arceus || just proved too difficult to catch. While I still had so much other stuff in the game I could do the disappointment was so much that I couldn't play at all anymore because I knew I could never truly finish. And with the next game having hidden bonus items that relied on you having that Pokemon from that game I felt defeated there as well.
And Pokemon Go, well my disability wasn't as bad when it came out, but I don't drive because of it and I could still play. I walked everywhere and had a lot of fun playing with my daughter, then a toddler. But then I was hit with a rare disorder, a paralyzed diaphragm, that left me on oxygen and a BiPap machine. I can barely walk to my bathroom now, let alone even check my mail. The changes during the pandemic made it possible to play, and then they reversed everything making the game completely unaccessible to me and so many others.
That experience really hurt and I just don't want to get attached again knowing what I may face. For me being trapped inside because of my paralyzed diaphragm, games are the way I see the world now. I love cozy games because I can walk around and do the stuff I can't do in real life. So it really hurts to know that even that is out of reach
I would like to take a moment to share some wisdom that came across my feed the other day:
Friendly reminder: if you're having fun playing a game, you're not bad at the game. You are having fun, the primary objective of play.
A person who criticizes or belittles others for their skill/effectiveness is bad at games, no matter how well they perform mechanically.
I feel you--Niantic reversing that change that made Pokemon Go so accessible was crushing, and I dropped the game after that. You've gotta make the best calls for you. I hope you're able to find a cozy home that brings you all the joy you seek, whether it be in Palia (with improvements built in and more accessibility) or somewhere else. ❤️
That being said, if you're not having fun at the game, you're still not bad. As we've seen here in various discussions, lack of accessibility in a game can be a factor that ruins the fun of a game, but that's not your fault and doesn't make you bad at the game.
An idea for accessibility/quality of life additions would be an ingame notebook so you can write down what you need, things you have completed, where you have found things, or even make check lists for things you need for bundles and quests.
Having a way to see if something goes into a bundle (assuming you have said bundle unlocked at least) would be nice. Whether its through an item tooltip or having a screen that just shows all the bundles so you can click through them.
omg yes, I was blown away when I realized there was an animation in Stardew that showed if you mouse over an item that belongs in a bundle for the community center!
Although it's not in the game, I do want to share that the official Palia Wiki page for Bundles has checkboxes so you can track them there! https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Bundles
Bundles are groups of items that can be turned in at the Night Sky Temple to obtain various rewards. Completing each temple (Waves, Flames, Gales, Roots) unlocks a vault containing four bundles. Completing all bundles for a vault will provide an additional reward.
Yeah I keep my list in notepad++ with what i'm missing for each of my characters. (Yes I have multiple accounts. I have alt problems. xD)
Thanks, I appreciate it. I really do hope they can find a way to address some of these issues going forward. It's not a competitive game so it's not like adding some skip or other mechanics gives anyone an unfair advantage or something people can exploit.
I will definitely play in the future if they do make any changes to address some of those issues. I hope I can ultimately find a game that I am able to love that does not require much skill to play.
related - i still want a way to pin any task/objective to the quest list whether its wants/loves, recipe ingredients, bundle items, or achievements so that that I can keep track of what i'm doing in game and stop forgetting about it
Yeah not having a list of likes/loves for gifts for this sort of game is kinda weird. Especially since it shows on the item icon when you go to gift it.
Also pinning things yes please.
I know it's not in the game per se--but the Official Wiki not only has an updating page on weekly wants (with their Likes and Loves for that week), but if you go to a villager's page and visit the Gifting section, you can tab through the different types and see what things they like all the time (though nothing is specified as an all-the-time love, from what I can see.
Here's Reth's thoughts on Bugs for example: https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Reth#Bugs-0
I just had a weird thought about the whole temple thing but also some of the more difficult bugs and fish. Since this is an MMO that pushes community, I wonder if they could add a feature that lets you somehow commission other players to do tasks you can't do?
It could even be something like maybe someone loves cooking but hates mining, so they trade services in a way. Kinda like how you can post commissions in other games like the My Time at Games to the civil corps. Or how a player's goal is to fill commissions.
Except the commissions could be filled by other players not NPCs. That way everyone could focus on the parts of the game they love.
So there's something similar in the Request system; however, it doesn't let you request anything you haven't possessed before, and you can't request/receive star-quality items. There seems to be a resistance towards open trade between players (I've never understood the reasoning well enough to try and communicate it to others). There's some level of shared loot, but that's hard with things like bugs and especially chapaas/sernuks that die before everyone can attempt a shot at it.
Oh I was thinking more like a commission where you can make a request for someone to pass the temple if you can't.
Like an expanded version of the request system currently in place.
yeah, 4 requests every x hours of nonstarred items you've already possessed is very limited and there's got to be something between that and full open trade where you can get everything and anything for whatever price the players choose
My biggest gripe with the request system is its preset amounts of a thing. Say I only need one or two of something, but I have to put up a request for a whole stack of 20 (or whatever the items full stack number is.)
i didn't get very far in sky (because holy motion sickness batman), but it had a function to ask for a player guide to help you with finding/doing things, so that could be an interesting option if they made off map locations accessible to more than just your character
That sounds like it would be perfect.
Oh! That's a really cool idea. Ooh--what if we could like, tether to the helping player, like an auto-follow sort of thing for the platforming or even just like, strapped together like you're skydiving with an instructor. Exploring the area with a friend and still able to participate as much as you want, but able to just hop onboard to address the movement challenges.
Regardless of the solution method, it needs to include a way for the disabled player (or whoever is using the accessibility option here) to still get and enjoy the story.
Thinking of the gales temple specifically--perhaps they could add a feature called Cloudy Corridors, that you could activate to spawn winding corridors of clouds--they could be a no-sprint zone or make them longer to get from place to place if they really feel the need to balance it out--but that would help folks who can't do the gliding for whatever reason get from place to place in the temple.
I've given up ever getting hte accessibility I need for this game.
I need for the chat box to have larger text size options so that i can read call outs. Haven't been able to play since Subira's quest line was announced because of the sheer amount of flow wood, = if you can't see call outs you can't get it done.
i'd really love to try and help but im confused on which part you're stuck on? if you could send a picture of the area i might be able to help
I'll see if I can get a screenshot later, My daughter, who shares her name with your IGN is currently playing a game on my Steam Deck. But ultimately I don't think I will be able to play at all if it's just going to be more of the same, even if I do get through this part.
While it's not perfect, I do think the next temple (Temple of Roots) is a bit more accessible. Definitely still some trouble-spots, but they started experimenting with alternate pathing, and there seems to be a forgiving mechanic where if you fall off a thing enough times it loads you back in at the spot you needed to be to do the thing.
on March 27th they did announce text scaling and ui scaling as changes in the works/on the horizon and hopefully the chat server connection issues and bugs are also resolved soon too
Two. Months. Ago.
yeah, pre layoffs and on the old release cadence "soon" was 3 months, so i'd say it's more like 6 or 9 months now
most things that get announced to be in the works of, or on their table of things to work on wont be out for some time. just gotta be patient
Por favor criar um canal em portugues com atualizacoes
It's hard to be patient, personally, when these are basic accessibility features still missing. Especially with how long it took to get the 'brightness' slider and it doesn't even do it's job /gen
I have poor vision but I usually do okay with Steam Deck or Switch lite. But I installed the game on my switch lite and I was shocked at how difficult the text was to see there. The difference is astounding when comparing the two.
Ok, finally dragged her away long enough to try to get back. Honestly just the few minutes I spent trying to get this left me with such a bad headache. This is where I'm struggling.
I can barely make the jump across these small islands
Also here, I'm struggling even to jump to this ladder to even reach those islands
And finally, this gust I'm sure I need to reach the top but I've never managed to make it into it and instead fall to the ground and have to start over
Sorry, I realized after the fact I probably should have made those spoilers but I don't know how
ohh i see. i know some spots are weird and you have to go across it from the other side, i dont exactly remember if thats the case for this one. have you tried using your glider while jumping to make the jumps? going for all the jumps
yeah for these ones the gusts do kind of fall short and are just annoying to make i struggled a few times myself. i did notice though that some are really specific in working and youll have to make sure youre directly in the middle of the wind gust to go up
I have. And honestly I just don't have it in me to keep trying. This entire area is making me so nauseous that it makes even harder to keep trying. Maybe I can try again later if they ever address it. But for now I just feel too defeated to keep at it
that set of jumps & climbs was so frustrating and I think it took me about 15 tries
Oh yeah I remember that. Got stuck tho and got bored so stopped playing
Ugh that part of the game almost had to quit. I HATED it. It took me forever and I had to find a yt walkthrough to even finish it
I did that temple I think in Dec/Jan. It gave me a migraine. I felt like I was playing Myst. I finished it, and I even finished most of the side quests, but it was so hard.
Does anybody else hate it when you're fishing and you suddenly get a fish that's not only the same colour as the water but also tiny so you can't see it unless it goes through your character and gets that yellow silhouette?
I don't speak Portuguese, but if you are asking for a channel in Portuguese, they have said this discord is English only.
But maybe someone here speaks Portuguese or Spanish and can help you with something you're wondering about?
✨ Any Portuguese/Spanish speakers here? ✨
I asked for exactly that, a channel with an update in Portuguese here on discord
One idea would be to have tabs with your expectations flags that people would choose their country and their language 🇧🇷
I'm impressed my mosambiquan-Portuguese from childhood managed to read that 😅
I wold imagine that would be helpful! I do however believe there are other discords for Palia in various languages, maybe a question in gameplay help or server discussions could help?
Ok
I agree, fishing can be hard to see. It's the bobber that counts, not the fish, but it's still difficult sometimes. I really like it getting yellow, I actively try to stand behind stuff for it...
course the easier to see bobbers and partly locked behind fishing which is... fun
Yes... (I'm assuming you're using the fun to say "not fun at all", from context?) I don't per se mind having to unlock different designs, but if a hard-to-see default is the only option I think that's a pretty bad solution.
The easiest one to get might be from the Roots bundles.
Assuming you can get the Gales temple done to be able to access the Roots temple.
Gales temple already requires fishing...
the bobber from the flames bundles has more contrast
Hopefully with the new update, cooking on your own will be less stressful 🤞🏾 atm it’s way too much for my brain to handle 😮💨
Unless I missed it, I don't recall there being any cooking changes unfortunately (outside of potential price changes).
I wish they would give options for solo cookers though, a lot of the more recent recipes are borderline impossible solo especially with all the bugs related to cooking :/ /gen
I started playing the game yesterday and I never realized how important minimaps were in MMORPGs until now. I know this is an old post but just to run it back; I, as well as many other players I'm assuming, just pull out the Map every 20 seconds, mark a waypoint, and then run as straight as possible to the waypoint. Navigating by landmarks seems like more of a passively learned skill rather than active... So I really hope they consider implementing a minimap 😭
cooking hasn't been mentioned so far, but we'll get the full patch notes tomorrow - Dev Update #8 plus the social post is a preview/highlight for patch 0.180
General Changes
- Gold earned from Mining will be tuned down, but to make up for it, the gold earned from other skills such as Foraging, Insect Catching, Hunting, & Fishing will be buffed
- Gold & Renown limits will be raised
- Drops for Flow-Infused Wood will be raised
- The cost to unlock the Copper Storage Recipe will be reduced
- Treasure Chests found in the world will have better rewards to help out new players
- Over half of existing Workbench recipes have been revisited, with about 85% having reduced requirements (though some were increased as well)
- The craft times for Gold & Silver Bars have been reduced from hours down to minutes
- Trees now have a chance to drop Amber, which can be sold as a high-value item
- Sell value for many Uncommon/Rare/Legendary items will increase for most skills
- HotPot in the underground
- Chat Bubbles
- More level 5 friendship quests
Housing Changes - Several building add-ons will take significantly less time to build — think within a Palian day, not irl
- Players will receive building add-ons as rewards for reaching initial Furniture-Making Levels
- This applies retroactively as well through rewards in the Mail
- Building Blocks - Create unique structures with blocks, ramps, pillars, walls, & more
- Grand Harvest House
- Pavers - Creating winding roads & charming lanes with a variety of shapes & materials
Gardening Changes - Cost to purchase Gardening Plots have been reduced
- Players will receive some seeds for reaching initial Gardening Levels
Premium - Expect more pets to be added in the future including the upcoming FlutterFox pet
- Five types you can choose from: Leafy, Spring, Summer, Autumn, & Winter
- Tool Skins! We plan on adding three to start out: Spring Sakura, Empyreal, & Leafy Weave
Just came by to complain about my photosensitivity. It was Grove lighting + fireworks + the green bug bombs vfx + a honey lure, and it alllllll hurt a ton.
Re: Lack of minimap and the devs saying they were never going to implement one: dyscalculia is like dyslexia but with numbers. While it seems like that's not related to this, people with dyscalculia -- like me -- have been known to also struggle with directions. So I can't enjoy the scenery because I'm literally opening my map every fifteen seconds because I cannot freaking remember which direction I'm supposed to go.
So yes, a minimap would indeed count for "accessibility features", because a minimap would help those with dyscalculia figure out where we're supposed to go. Think about this: which is more disruptive to enjoying the scenery the devs spent so long on -- glancing up to your top right every so often... or stopping literally every fifteen seconds to obscure the whole freaking screen with the map?
It's also a huge problem for people like me with short term memory issues. I may be able to orient myself okay, but remembering the direction I'm supposed to go? That's much harder, and I also end up opening my map over and over.
So a +1 again to why accessibility features help multitudes for multiple reasons.
I've got Dyscalculia and TBI so my memory in general is crap. The cords have helped me a bit, but we** desperately** need a mini-map function or the go-ahead to create addons for them!
gosh yeah i have dyscalculia and adhd so my sense of direction is non-existent :')
a minimap would be amazing
i spend way too many hours a(n in-game) day unironically running in circles lmao
Honestly, everyone should send in Feedback if they haven’t yet. I sent one in talking about the need for a mini-map before. I know they have a tendency to not care about the disabled community and our needs, but if we flood them with all of this, maybe they will finally start listening.
I have TBI too! I barely ever meet others with one
I don't really get the whole "look at the scenery!!" thing, everywhere I'm going I'm always staring at the ground for bugs.
This. Or looking for chapaas in the grass. Or just unable to see anyway, because I am legally blind. If you'd like me to "enjoy the scenery", you're going to have to figure out a way to stick said "scenery" DIRECTLY IN MY FACE. XD
From the patch notes... Sounds like they at least tried to give options. Obviously the implementation remains to be seen.
Honestly, looking at that just makes me wonder why they dont' just allow us to have that option for text size/opacity via the currently chatbox
Im glad there's an option at least for the chat bubbles, however!
Seems like now would have been a perfect time to have text size/opacity settings for the chat box...clearly they can do it for chat bubbles
I still have a bit of hope that opacity and text size apply to all chat, even though the patch notes seem to talk about the bubbles only...
Well. They also have "[PC] Additional graphics settings have been added." in the notes... 🥲
Party members will now share loot for most gathering activities.
Players who are near their party members will now receive loot for actions their party members did - so if your friend can one-shot a Sernuk, you’ll share in on the loot. In addition, the loot dropped will be the same across each player. Yes, that includes Plushies! Skills this change applies to:
- Woodcutting
- Mining
- Insect Catching
- Hunting
This section in particular seems very relevant to helping those with accessibility challenges around these four particular skills (provided you have someone else who can handle doing those things to party up with)
Yes! This definitely will help with a lot! Still wish they added fishing to that in some capacity (even if it's just increasing the other members chance of catching the same fish). Or maybe meaning that theyre looking into it later on
Really annoyed they didn't add fishing though, considering it's one of the most inaccessible skills in the game (I get why they did it; fishing RNG is the whole game at this point tbh lol /gen)
I hear y'all on that--I'm still hoping fishing and cooking can get some accessibility support
What this does mean though, is we can start arranging gathering parties, combining the skills we like/are able to do and getting the support from others who do the ones we dislike/can't do.
I wonder if there's a range limit for party-wide loot sharing. Definitely something to test!
100%. fishing and cooking are usually the 2 main ones I struggle the most with at this point.
And yes! I do at least recognize those things & I'm happy about that at least
Cooking is similar to the new skills now, no? You can start it and someone else could do all the steps... Though I agree it's really hard on your own and more difficult to coordinate.
It specifically says "when you're near" so I imagine there's a range /gen
With cooking I believe even if you start it you have to do one step of it? Unless they changed that at some point
Fair point--just curious as to how far the range extends. Not only for convenience but so we can determine safety-zones if folks are accompanying others but want to avoid the bad visual stimuli (flashing, etc.)
I see, I thought starting counted as a step... Haven't tried it much.
Starting it should count as a step... like, even if it doesn't now, I feel like it should lol
I know in cake parties the starter usually has to bring blueberries / apples
yeah, but also technically "finish" it in a sense by adding the rest to it as well
like if someone made a cake slice, you put it there, etc
Sorta alt text for screenshot of last bullet points on chat bubbles
You can turn off/on Chat Bubbles in settings, as well as a number of other options such as text size and opacity.
The tracking items are 200m, so maybe around that? Maybe half that?
This feels like a help for accessibility too
Muujin will now carry over their health even after escaping.
Previously, their health would be reset to full.
[PC] Additional graphics settings have been added.
- Note: A static image preview will overlay to help you test out certain options.
- We are also working to add more to the Switch as well in a future update.
Potential for some accessibility here; how much remains to be seen but we can test once it's live.
As always @north mesa , thank you for your help in digging up the accessibility that may be buried in the patch notes. ❤️
Happy to help and it's a solid "just woke up and don't actually want to get up yet" activity
For those that find any element of flow trees and groves rough, you have to endure them less no
All Flow-Infused Wood drops have been increased.
Generally speaking, the amount of Flow-Infused Wood obtained will scale better based on the size of the tree.
~~And the retroactive changes are helpful to reduce grind - we're getting gold for previously found treasure chests, free blueprints for leveling furniture making, seeds from leveling gardening ~~ I can't read first thing in the morning apparently - we're NOT getting gold or seeds, just blueprints
Not to mention things getting faster and cheaper
For those of you who can chop wood but can't mine or other things, chopping wood now has a chance of dropping Amber; each Amber sells for 350 gold, and that includes chopping trees you've planted on your plot as well!
Source:
Amber will now drop at a chance when you chop trees.
As part of our Economy Update, trees will now have a rare chance to drop amber to help incentivize this Skill as a means to earn some gold. The following items are now available:
- Oak Amber
- Birch Amber
- Juniper Amber
- Pine Amber
Some additional details:
- Each amber will drop from their respective tree (so Birch Amber from Birch trees, etc.), and all sell for 350 Gold.
- It’s possible for Amber to drop from planted Trees in the housing plot as well!
Nice!
I kinda hope they have placeable amber at some point. I just think it's neat.
The health regen on the muujin was brutal. I'm glad for that change.
saved the notes as they are right now to the wayback machine so we can see if/how they change today post patch https://web.archive.org/web/20240528160019/https://palia.com/news/patch-180
Why add loot sharing in bug catching and hunting but not fishing? Fishing is one of the least accessible skills and one of the biggest blockers in bundle completion. Just up the stack limits and let us share in fishing loot.
I'd guess because fishing is the skill that doesn't already work in a way that makes loot sharing easy to add - bug catching and hunting already share the pickup/drop point while fishing is totally separate.
Those are both valid points. I highly encourage folks to test the new loot sharing system when the game comes back up, and submit feedback on how it works and whether or not you'd like to see them work to add Fishing to this feature. I've shared what I can, but without a CM I don't know how far my words will go at this point. ❤️
I honestly can see them slightly changing how the fishing works in the sense of pickup/drop. It'd be nice if it was a way to function where, one person could just be vibing w/ the person if theyre close enough, and if the other person is fishing, then that's when loot bags could be dropped at their feet. I can see this would not be easy to implement though, since that'd probably include rewriting code.
...I just think they should make it more accessible in general for people, in general though.
Also glad in general that there's a step forward, in regards to at least helping make the other skills a bit more "accessible" for people.
The fishing buff applies regardless of actual partying up. It just requires you to be close enough to the other people. Maybe they could tie the fish loot sharing to that. :|a
yeah i can see a change to fish coming to get it closer to the others, but doing just the others was a quicker win and they are really reticent about talking future plans/changes
The way the loot sharing for the other stuff now will work the way people were thinking it did originally. When it was just that you got your own roll on the loot table for the thing.
Apparently video settings and keybind settings got reset again. Just as a warning
Good to know.
Watch out, keybinds and video settings reset again 🙃
well that sucks, thanks for letting us know
Froggies 🤝
I saw you typing and just knew
They always do... Sigh...
But yeah. Very unfortunate. Doesn't surprise me, but yea..
this world is why QA testing is important and underappreciated /gen
I understood it happening when they added rebinding for controllers. But now it's a little ???????
not sure if this was addressed already but hopefully the text size adjustability fixes the issues people were having!
at first look, my keybindings don't look like they changed
I'm hoping that'll also apply to the chatbox and not just chat bubble--
Thank you mistalina <3
Maybe they fixed some of the rebinding limitations/bugs there were? Would be nice...
I don't see any extra options related to regular chat.
this is just one example, but there are some more detailed settings (at least more than the last time I looked)
They added a toggle for the grid on the world map. (Unless I missed it earlier on.)
That's interesting.
so no options for actual text size? just the chat bubbles?
Apparently there's an "effects" setting ... not sure what counts or is labeled as effects. Will see if i can test it shortly
🙃 welp shout out to those of us who are still stuck in squinting purgatory
whoa, there's different settings to preview your setings and there's color correction
getting there slowly
Don't go through options really fast. It'll flicker pretty bad.
did they change the slider to actually function well? before it changed contrast and brightness together
Slowly including accessibility stuff from what I'm seeing in here? Effects stuff, colour stuff, chat bubbles...
It's still a single slider labeled Gamma
the gamma slider is still there but now you can choose between 3 color correction mods and have a slider for that too
😩 ill have to test later and see if it helps or if its just glorified filters
oh it's almost definitely that
cries
I wish they had the original lighting settings from a long time ago as an option. ><;
Specifically when you go to "preview type" down to "Colour Correction Amount".
That was... awful.
i have it on tritanope and 0.8 right now to try out and it's fairly even, a tad darker tones, and very saturated on my plot so it's not so blownout and bright
oh so it sounds like theyre colourblind options but not calling them that?
sorta? the names remind me of different media and chemicals for photography through the years
yeah they're types of colourblindness
why cant they just call them what they are then 😩
because accessibility is a bad word
No clue... Better adding them under a false name than not adding them at all... Still, should be called what it is for people who need it.
I think, the "effects" portion might help with some stuff? it at least made watering seem more minimal to me
But... the red flashing when you hoe the ground is still very excessive... so maybe not...
i hope it works for outfits with effects too
:|a wonder what all the slider will affect
based on nothing, my guess is the effects on the gatherables and bugs?
Well.. "Low" put it to .12 .. and it still made the red flashing on the ground very excessive like nothing changed..
this is what its supposed to do
tldr: It determines amount of detail in objects or interactions
For some mining nodes previously disappeared entirely when the effect setting was too low.
PC only setting, right?
i dont own consoles so im not sure
PC and Steamdeck iirc. Switch version doesn't have as many setting options.
Yeah, Gamma is its own thing separate from Brightness & Contrast and particularly impacts the mid-range. We have a Bloom slider though and that's handy.
Bless - it exists in game finally.
huh, just looked at mine and foudn that i missed one
For a while the achievement was so bugged it would grant it to you when you gave him a pebble the first time.
I can't find the last Pebbled... with oysters, sad!!
they made the underground entrance look more like an entrance
and the bridge with a hole was fixed too (part of the 'story' of the changed decor and scuff marks) so no more falling in that
Okay, Did some testing with the Effects. I also misread how those settings worked-- "effects" and "emitter spawn rate scale". Didn't realize they were different...? Anyways.
On Low-- it actually turned some of my effects exceptionally bright. Example of low vs epic here w/ a nearby forageable::
a little annoyed by flickering shadows on lower graphics settings
For those looking for the new pavers they show up as (descriptor) Paver in the list- "Sandstone Flagstone Paver" etc.
Letting yall know they're starting Twitch Drops soon :/ For 2 hours of watch time you get 10 brightshrooms, for 6 hours you get a wallpaper, and for 10 hours you get a plushie
just started a minute ago https://palia.com/news/palia-180-drops
From 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday, May 28 to 12:55 p.m. PT on Tuesday, June 18, tune-in to your favorite content creators to receive these (free!) mushroom-themed rewards:
2-hours Viewed: 10 Brightshrooms
6-hours Viewed: Mushroom Woods Wallpaper
10-hours Viewed: Fun Guy Plush
Isn't the wallpaper the same you get from the foraging skill??
Yes, and the plushie is one you get from Zeki
....2 hours for brightshrooms????? eeek
Does drop rates for certain items count as an accessibility issue? Because I don’t have the patience, or aiming to get all the plushies. And I’m a plushie enthusiast. I just wish there was an easier way
Hunting loot is actually identical now. So if you are hunting with others and they get it you should too. And you don't have to be in a party for it to work.
Nifty!/gen Still might go crazy trying to get them all/hj
Yeah it's definitely time consuming. Just don't rush since they aren't going away.
headsup that you might see more fireworks in game - i got a recipe to make a box of 5 surprise fireworks
True.
was that from a rummage? 😮
no, from inspiration i'm pretty sure
Oooh 😮 I will have to investigate.
Heads up; If you're epileptic or just don't do well with shaking/flickering stuff, the chat broke this patch and there is a chance every time it refreshes that it will start randomly flickering uncontrollably 💚
I've had it happen a lot.
unfortunately the flickering shadows on lower graphics settings already bother me, so the chat flickering on top of that was a little annoying lol
surprisingly the fireworks dont bother me, it's just when stuff flickers like that
Have you tried messing with the shadow distance scaling at all and see if it stops it? (or the shadow quality)
unfortunately i have and my computer cant handle shadows higher than medium
so either i turn them off or deal
😦 womp. on mining nodes at least medium stops the unintentional flickering.
turning them off when i'm having particularly bad eye/brain moments has helped
The flickering would be worth putting in a bug report for because it seems like it shouldn't happen.
i know a few games that do the same on low graphics, so maybe just limitation of the engine
What's your shadow distance scale set to? I'm trying to see if there's a workaround to fix the flickering :>
0.7, shadows set to medium atm
hello! expect City hall, furniture store and barn you find other recipes than that?
mostly shadows flicker badly around plants and flowers
if you look at the cliff is it that kind of flickering?
It's because of the wind pushing the trees and plants around...
If you can bump up your shadow scaling to 0.8 it's a little less obnoxious.
i think its the sun moving and shadows moving with sun, it happens on the side of my house as well
will try bumping scale up a bit, thank you for trying to help!
:> No problem
hello! expect City hall, furniture store and barn you find other recipes than this?
there are now different highlights on the loot notifs for rare items
You'll be able to buy the tool patterns from the different guild shops as you level up your skills as well. And more furniture patterns come from inspiration (you pick a new pattern to learn from a given set after crafting another piece from it that you've never crafted before.)
If you are new to the game #🐣│palia-newbies can help with useful resources and question answering.
@pastel mica i got all recipes, im saying if are more that this new recipes, after patch. i buy all
we can't help - we're just players talking about how the game could work better with disabilities - reach out to s6 support https://support.palia.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Oh my apologies - thank you for letting me know. Sorry once again.
An auto-follow feature would be helpful so you could just auto-follow someone
For NPC weekly requests (on Switch) I wish you could hover over what they want. It's so tiny, and especially for fish and food, it's hard to tell what it is.

If my memory is correct (I haven't played in a week or so, and I have awful brain fog, so forgive me if it isn't lol) there's a button to press to show you their wants. I think it may be X? Or Y? But I remember there being something on the bottom of the screen that says something like "X = Detailed Wants" or something along those lines. Because I never know what's what, especially when it's a bug of some sort for our favourite little mail carrier lol
Ohh!!! I see it now. Thank you!
HOLY SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS I THINK I FOUND IT!
PRAISE GOD I FIXED IT! I did a search for the name of my mouse... Zelotes and it lead me here
Yeah I found it. Thank you for you help. I've had a rough couple of days with some drama on my bfs stream. So I've been not sleeping and just super stressed. Come back to the game today to find that my keybinds are broken. This shouldn't be happening. Like I don't understand how this company keeps breaking them.
RIGHT?????
btw... my keybinds ARE NOT fixed in game. They're just fixed in my mouse settings.
I'm having another issues on top of that as well. I'm just super frustrated at this point.
Did hotpot always have the embers coming out of the middle? I can’t remember, and if it was added, I wish they hadn’t because my photosensitivity hates it.
i'm not sure, ive only used it for the first time yesterday. but that could possibly be from a graphics change if you changed your graphics recently?
I play on switch and do not have access to those settings unfortunately.
ah okay
I remember last time I had VASTLY different experiences depending on what color I got assigned, where the red one was very flashy/bad and the brown one was more moderate. Haven't had the chance to play the new one yet, but that could be a part of it?
Hi! I just submitted this idea via the link in feedback! but i also wanted to share it here
I found myself in a situation in Palia and came up with an idea that can fix that problem!
Imagine you’re in this situation: You craft some new fences for your plot! Yay! BUT! You run into an issue. You now have hundreds upon hundreds of fences taking up your storage space! and you can’t sell them! Introducing the Furniture Recycler! It takes your old furniture and returns to you a percentage of the resources used to make that item! (eg 50% of resources are returned to you) No more old fences taking up space in your storage and they’re repurposed to make new furniture!
Zero Waste Policy, lesgo!
I dunno if this is something others have struggled with but I'm struggling to see some of the bugs and ores I have astigmatism n my graphics are on mediam so it runs well it means the grasshoppers blend into the grass and the stone looks purple n I don't realize it's palium till it's broken then I feel bad coz I never called it out specially on switch better on PC but it's a real struggle on switch I bought controller size joysticks for my switch to help with my chronic pain but hunting is still a struggle specially switching between chopping trees and shooting mujinn I love that uve made star items really clear and crafting items to this has been the first MMO and farmer type sim I've been able to play without getting stressed out thank you for being so accessible
Bugs really can be hard to see! And I keep confusing stones and Palium, especially from a bit of a distance.
Not sure if it makes anything better, but for calling stuff out - Palium you can still call out after you mined it. And if it's hard to call things out, totally fine not to :-)
Definitely not just you - I have to play on Low for the game to run decent (it's a Palia issue, not my computer issue lol) and I commonly mistake regular stone for iron or palium /gen
I'm actually relieved to know it's not just me thought I was just being fussy my PC isn't the best so I lowered the graphics so the game didn't lag I was hoping it wasn't just an issue I'd be having due to this I like how the mushrooms and flowers have a glow to them wonder if this is something we can put as an optional on bugs n have the rare ones glow a different colour because they move sometimes it's hard to tell if there the rare ones before they get away or burrow
I've found the bugs being easier on lowest foilage levels (lowest on PC, or even less than that on Switch), couldn't experiment much with other graphics settings as my devices can't handle it well.
If I recall correctly, they added a slider for grass and foliage this patch? So you may be able to adjust them more than previously--but I'm so sleep-deprived from my day job it may just be a fever dream....
I can confirm that bugs are easier (at least for me) to see on the lower setting. There are a few that can blend in, mainly the green ones
Haven't seen it yet - is it on PC? If so, I could previously set foilage like the other graphics to low, medium, high, epic, that's what I was referring to.
Yup! If you turn the density down it should make the bugs a bit easier to see.
Little late to this one but I noticed it too. I don't recall it looking like that. Tbh I thought it was a visual bug because someone at my table had that new skin where it's got the flames when they're idle or whatever.
Hard agree! Either be able to recycle or sell.
We have to craft furniture to learn new recipes, which leaves us with so much junk we don't want. It's such a waste to just throw them away. It makes me not want to go through the leveling up process of making furniture
would be great if i could remember what i gifted to certain people! (romance gift, etc+)
Just a reminder if you make furniture you know you will never use Trish takes it as a gift.
There is an online checklist thing so you will know what you gave them and what they want
If you gifted them one of their weekly wants it'll check it off, but yeah unfortunately it doesn't list non-weekly wants
Oh. I can change them. But they don't work. This has been an issues since December. They work around was to download the mouse software, and then go into the settings and edit the button bindings there.
Oh butbheresghe thing, even THAT'S not working. So they broke it even more this update.
I just don't understand, with such a HUGE community that actually NEEDS this accessibility feature, why they haven't fixed it yet.
They think there’s no money in it.
can i ask a clarifying question? What do you mean by "breaking" keybinds?
With how much I make vs how much I can gift her, it still leaves me with way too much junk.
I can only play 3 days a week.
1 gifted furniture per play session Vs the 3-5 pieces I've been making each session lately
furniture space in storage is unlimited tho :0c
If you keep watch maybe you can give her more I am usually able to give her like 2 a day maybe they fixed the gift times?
Yeah but if your an ocd neat freak we don’t like to keep things that we don’t intend to use sadly 🤣🤣
i get that for sure! lol
this just doesnt feel like the right channel for that kind of feedback in the first place. Apart from the already suggested need for a search-bar in long lists like the storage chests and crafting station lists, having too much furniture in your storage if you craft a lot of it isn't really an accessibility issue.
this channel is so important to have available. Its frustrating to see it flooded with generic feedback in a way that can undermine the actual accessibility feedback discussed, yknow?
I always thought gifts were always once a (IRL) day, resetting at 4am
Am I misunderstanding it?
Gifts are still once every 24hrs irl. But these discussions seem much better suited to #💬│palia-general or #💬│palia-discussions is what I am saying. The ability to trade furniture with Tish multiple times a day is not an accessibility issue
They don't work. That's what I mean. Every update taht they done, has broken them so that when you change the keybinds in your settings, they don't work. I have 12 buttons on the side of my mouse, I can assigned them with some fiddling, but they don't work. It's annoying and frustrating.
Do they reset to the default? or does it just not recognize the keybinds you assigned them to?
have you sent a tech support ticket about this yet?
You may feel that way, but it absolutely can be.
I have ADHD and there's definitely some overwhelm and frustration dealing with the furniture storage system. I regularly forget what I have in there, can't find what I was just thinking of. And unless you know the exact name of an item (or remember what the icon looks like) it's exceedingly difficult to find something intentionally, especially when you've made and purchased just about every decorative item in the game.
So while it may not be an issue for you, that doesn't mean it's not an issue.
Hard same for me here
Without a better way of organizing, or dealing with items it can be very overwhelming and cause a bit of anxiety
I also have a plethora of diagnoses including ADHD. What I am trying to say is that the solution you are proposing has nothing to do with having ADHD, but not wanting to trash furniture that you don't want to keep and wanting some other means to get rid of it. That is not an accessibility issue. That is general feedback.
As things stand, I agree that they need a search feature to make sorting through large sections of storage easier. That has been discussed and I am agreeing with it. But asking if we can give more furniture to Tish isn't accessibility related. We have a trash button for things we don't want to keep. We don't need to gain something for them.
I see it as a symptom to a problem caused by lack of accessibility features. If we had the ability to better organize our items there wouldn't be a need to get rid of anything necessarily, because the overwhelm of a giant scrolling list of items wouldn't exist.
And furniture making is the most resource intensive part of the game. It makes sense that it should be profitable somehow
So much waste honestly feels like a punishment for wanting to level up Furniture, especially for some one like me who physically cannot sit down long enough to put in the play time required to get resources back.
I really want to have a nice looking lot
But it's coming at the cost of basically the rest of the game for me
whether or not something is profitable is not accessibility related though, and that is the heart of what I am trying to say. This is general feedback. It may be very agreeable general feedback, but it is general feedback.
But the core of the issue at play here is the lack of ability to sort and filter the huge list of furniture, which is an accessibility issue. That's what I'm saying
And that I agreed with. But asking if we can give more items to Tish isn't a solution to THAT problem. A search bar or better filters IS.
It's a solution, but someone else may prefer to get rid of the item entirely, because a filter isn't enough and they feel they'll never use a particular and don't want to see it, but don't want to trash it either.
More solutions isn't inherently a bad thing. And I don't think any one of us in here is an authority on what should or shouldn't be considered an accessibility issue for someone else.
It causes me physical pain to grind for those resources lost during making a bunch of junk furniture just to get one or two pieces I actually want
If you want to say that any feature could be an accessibility feature, why would there be a section for accessibility feedback vs general feedback at all? What I am trying to say is that the more we flood this thread with general suggestions, the less likely the core issues we are all agreeing on are to be seen and addressed as priorities.
that was re: this post
This isn't a feedback channel, it's a discussion channel. All feedback has to be sent directly via a form because there isn't any monitoring of the channel, so that's not an issue.

Something might be accessibility-related for one person, and look like a general suggestion for someone else.
The amount of times I've been denied disability accommodations in school and the work place based on this general train of thought is outrageous.
Related but unrelated, I haven't gotten a chance to go through all the settings yet, but is toggling visual brightness and saturation an option?
On Switch there's just a gamma slider, on PC not sure, last update I doubt it, not sure if they added something in the current one.
Gamma slider should be on PC too.
I'm on PC, I'll have to take a look.
Sometimes modifying through my monitor doesn't always translate well into games
I wish there was a better indication of ore type aside from colour
That'd be really helpful... Especially since they look very similar from a distance.
in the last two updates they added a few more graphics settings and broke things down to be more granular - there's a gamma slider and color filters (colorblind modes really) with intensity sliders. there's some discussion and screenshots starting around here #♿│accessibility-discussions message
yeah this is an issues channel because s6 doesn't actively monitor discord for feedback and bug reports as of... 6? 8? months ago? they were going to try to monitor it more (see pins) but all the CMs got laid off, so yeah this is just player to player discussion - the how to channel gives the links for actual feedback as does the command invoked above
Oh greaaaat. So what's the point then of this channel then? Ughness.
Keybinds have been broken for a while and now even the work around are broken in game as well. Like, that IS an accessibility issue. I'm just to sfrustrated with it at this point.... 😭😭😭
I just really want some of this accessibility to show up on the switch version. I don’t get gamma sliders. I’m going to have to ask my gf to game as me to catch the magic muujin because the vfx of invisible muujin is really bad for my photosensitivity.
This channel used to not even be here, when they removed it a while back when trying to "remove/reorganize" the server. We had to talk/"fight" in a sense, constantly, to try to even have this channel. It's here for people to just discuss and hopefully find workarounds to some degree-- and for me, it's nice that it's here so I know I'm not alone in some regard, and that there's a community here who understands where I'm coming from.
The devs/CMs used to say that they didn't look in this channel, until it got questioned & brought up countless times. Then the CM (who got laid off), mentioned they do look in it. I don't really know what is "true" anymore, esp due to the layoffs. I hope they still look here, or at least look a lot into the accessibility related things w/ feedback. It looks like they are, at least a little, which is good and nice to see.
And on the note in regards to what "is" or "isn't" an accessibility-related feedback-- anything honestly could be. Just because 1 solution looks like general feedback, it is something from the root of something that is in regards to accessibility. The ADHD side of things w/ the storage, it was just one solution to help that issue. Like, yeah, the search function would help-- but being able to have a refund of materials could help, not only the people who struggle with seeing so many furniture pieces in storage-- but for those who genuinely struggle with going for more and more materials due to some disability-- whether it's feeling restless & struggling to stay focused on that task, or someone, like me, where it physically hurts to continuously use my mouse (and yes, controller) to get resources constantly.
The root of the solution is the accessibility "issue", not the solution. The solution is to help said thing. Just because you don't see it, or have it properly explained, doesn't mean it's not for accessibility or QoL, even.
All accessibility solutions, issues, discussion, etc... are valid and important.
I also really hope they fix the gamma slider or do a better/proper brightness & contrast sliders. The gamma slider currently just doesn't help me at all, and makes some things worse sadly 😭
And if you read the #📬│feedback-how-to channel you'll find this message. The fact this channel is in a category called feedback is misleading imo.
Clearly states this channel is not a formal feedback reporting avenue.

That's the pinned post from Melbelle. The spirit of the channel still holds, even with Melbelle and Asherelle having been laid off.
The discussions and community here are important, even without CMs. We help each other.
As a Shepp, I continue to raise the concerns brought up here to anyone at S6 I can get them in front of at this point.
For the new accessibility features added to the game, please give feedback on how those work for you--do they help? Do they fall short? How could they be better?
Mara, I know we've worked together on your keybinds before--aside from everything in the game being reset to default (which is definitely frustrating) can you explain the issue you're having in setting them back to how you'd configured them after the previous patch?
And I want to really emphatize how much I, and I'm sure others, appreciate that and you. I know you help a lot, whether that's in the background trying to help S6 hear us, or about helping us talk about the accessibility discussions here!
And for the accessibility features, at least for me with the Effects-- turning that to "low" (not turning the slider down, but the actual setting to "low")... made the effects a lot brighter instead of turning them off or minimizing it. The slider also did nothing (from what I could tell) unfortunately.
The only thing I recognized-- other than the increased bright effects-- was making the ocean/water not have any movement at all and was a solid blue.
I know some folks have cited the movement of the water as triggering motion sickness, so that piece at least seems to be an intended function of lowering the effects; however, the rest of what you listed definitely sounds like it's not functioning as intended. (Or at least what we can guess was intended.)
Does anyone have any video clips of wood-chopping from previous patches? I want to do some comparisons of visual effects--I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is more apparent because I'm looking for it more now, or because it actually changed/increased.
Yeah, that definitely seems intended and I'm grateful for that. Just wanted to bring up the good part/side of things, along with what I thought wasn't intended! I should of been more clear on that.
And yeah, I'm assuming the rest definitely isn't intended. It did at least get rid of like.. the .. effect bit-- like, the sparks itself? for example, with mining, but it left a really bright glow in the shape of a ball, almost. I didn't post screenshots of that here or anything (esp since it's hard to screenshot at the right time...), but I did at least show a comparison with the sundrop lillies (the best I could) of the difference here, if it helps, too, for anything: #♿│accessibility-discussions message
Caution: Photosensitivity Warning!
I see something similar when chopping trees after the patch; I'm just not sure if it was there before, and it seems to persist on any setting-level.
(Please ignore me trying to chop an unchoppable tree at the start XD )
(hehe it made me giggle)
And yeah.. it's pretty similar to that, but on a large scale! I actually didn't even think to test it when chopping trees, either. I think I saw it after mining and was like "nope, that's enough for me!" lol... (esp since i knew i was going to be mining a lot)
And I don't remember if it was there before the patch either... it doesnt seem familiar, but to be quite honest, it's been a while since I've properly chopped trees & paid attention to the visuals of those. I wonder if I can find a clip somewhere
Ah! I found a video from February I'd snipped when documenting the issue with floating loot-bags. It seems to be there as well.
Caution: Photosensitivity Warning for video
Hmm... hopefully they fix that or reduce it a bit in the future, then. Esp since I feel like, the "Effects" slider/setting was meant to help that!
For my own mental health: please make chats hidden lol
You can turn on streamer mode, and there's an option to "turn chat off" that way!
Omg thanks
Will Polish language be added in the future?

On a side note, my keybinds started randomly working last night? 🤷🏻♀️
Something told me to try setting them.....AGAIN....for line the 4th time since the update, and.....it worked? Idk why. But mine are working now.
i'm guessing this is a response to some of the platforming feedback - a new quest has an option to find the next thing yourself within the temple or be transported close to it
I'm half blind, I know, I know- it's a video game... it'd be nice to be able to have the bugs increase in size a bit lol.
Yeah, I can't see 90% of the bugs. I just know they're there by the little "buggy" sounds.
It is a video game that claims to be accessible. While there are limits to what they can do, doing something would have been nice.
So I asked my question in general but was told to ask it in here. Has anyone figured out a way to reduce the motion sickness in the temple of the gales? I have been motion sick maybe three times in my life so it's very weird for me but also uncomfortable as it would be and I don't think I can finish the quests there with out some kind of intervention
Like you I don't get motion sick a lot. But what caused the motion sickness in there for me was the effects on the sky. I get that it's supposed to be wind effects but x_x;
Right? I mean I LOVE super choppy boats - roller coasters, I can read in the car in the backseat, I play VR, but HOLY HECK that wind effect...
THANK YOU
They really gotta add an indication when there are Muujin hiding in trees. They have given me so many jump scares and that spike in heart rate and the tingling in my hands it causes is very uncomfy and starting to cause me a bit of anxiety when cutting down pine trees
really derpy MS paint drawing, but perhaps something like this, where you can see their tails sticking out from under the branches or something? 🤔
This is adorable! And such a good solution
and sometimes paws!
Sometimes you can tell the mujin are nearby by the sound they make. It's kind of like a coughing howl. I think it happens near trees too.
I do however support making tree'd mujin visible -- I generally don't want to chop down mujin housing when foraging for wood. XD
I’ve server hopped (specifically when on my plot) because the chat was never ending! 😩
I couldn't stop reporting because the chat got hella racist
As for the muujin, I finally got launched into space by one of them when chopping a tree, and it made me so motion sick. It was the same lurch I felt in my stomach during Temple of the Gales (or anything where you’re falling into nothingness).
Thankfully, I haven’t experienced any racism in game. Many times, especially during flow groves or other group activities, I may be the only (obvious) Black person there, and I’m very conscious of it. It’s sad that it’s on my mind, but the world we live in, you never know.
Just was scanning through the chats. Since apparently the game is down?
Maintenance right now :-)
@tulip spire Hopefully they are fixing the Switch crashes...maybe. Everytime I go in Jel's store I crash.
Fingers crossed...
That's one idea
My other thought was scratches on the trunk or broken branches
and captured today with the hotfix change notes and "Emerging Known Issues as of May 28" added under known issues heading https://web.archive.org/web/20240610172417/https://palia.com/news/patch-180
Have you thought about sending friend requests to random vaguely nice people you see in Palia? I've been doing that for a while and now most of the people I'm on servers with are "friends" I've already played with and know are relatively chill
Is that a reason why people will randomly send friend requests? I have been accepting them, because it's not like I had a bad interaction. But I always found it weird that people I don't know friended me.
Maybe to see if sometime you wanna join them or they join you for a party to do hunting or something? That'd be my guess.
I think quite a few people do that, so try to make sure they have a chance of ending up in servers with friendly people
Oh yeah, it's at least why I do it. If someone waits for me to harvest a thing, sends me a wave, or is helpful in the chat, I'll send them a random friend request
So I always(usually) accept friend invites in case they just need a friendly face ☺️
I haven’t only because I don’t like random friend requests, so I don’t want to be that person that sends them out. I have many friends, whom I’ve met playing Palia, so we don’t KNOW each other. We’re doing our own things, and when I play, I like to do what I want. It’s great having those interactions, but they’re typically a one time thing per person I meet. Rarely, do I come across them again and we hang out again.
Understandable, I almost never actually directly play with my palia "friends" (or anybody :D) funny enough, I just logged in and had a random friend request
I don’t, either, especially with all the new housing items, I’ve been busy on my own plot. Having someone just hang around talking would be distracting. 😂
does anyone else have ADHD and struggle with the chopping prep mini game XD
