When doing like a cake party Is there any benefits to someome who gives starred apples and someone who only puts cake into oven? Do they get the same benefits or does the starred apple person get like more cooking xp or more gold for the cake, etc.? I mostly participate in cake parties because I'm trying to get ingredients out of my storage or because I'm helping the friend who is hosting the party. I have noticed that oven and spread are often last to fill, even though it's "free" - it still requires time and attention.

Oven is important because it is possible to burn the cake if you don't take it out of the oven promptly once it's done baking. (Then the whole sweet leaf and batter steps have to be re-done.) It's not difficult, just requires paying attention - and sometimes you just wanna make your sweet leaf/fruit frosting and zone out for 90 minutes instead of spend it watching the seconds tick like a hawk XD

Likewise, spread is the last step in the whole process before assembly, so you are really watching the whole recipe progress through the steps so you can start your role promptly. Again, not hard exactly, but requires a bit of active attention. I'm always grateful for the free role folks!

However, if "use starred ingredients" is checked, it looks for items in this order:

• starred items in your bags
• starred items in your storage
• unstarred items in your bags
• unstarred items in your storage
  (it ignores items in locked storage)

This means that if you have unstarred stuff in your bags, but starred stuff in your storage, it will take from your storage first in that case.

(At fish dish parties, starred ogopuu meat can pose problems as a result, because it counts as "any fish.")

In that case, as long as the lake sharks are the cheapest fish in your bags (ideally the only fish in your bags), and you don't check "use starred ingredients" when starting the recipe, then yes, it will pull the lake sharks without having to select them specifically

just keep in mind that ogopuu meat is the cheapest fish there is, so make sure you don't have any stray bits lurking in the corner of your backpack XD

@echo fern imo best food in general is fruit smoothy bowl , its very easy to make , very low ingredients, one of fastest dishes to make aaand still provides a good focus of 487

There are a few good options, and it depends on your comfort with various cooking minigames and whether you're cooking solo, in small groups, or in parties. Parties is typically cheaper and faster since you split the ingredients and the work among many people.

But my go-to is still steak dinner (225/337⭐ focus) Recipe from Reth at cooking level 4, doesn't take anything hard to get or unusual (all the mats can be purchased except the wheat, and you can still technically buy that in a pinch, if very expensively), and is fairly easy to execute either solo or in duos.

If you've got a few more people available, stuffed cabbage rolls is also very efficient, though you've got to have someone comfortable chopping green onion. It has an unusually high star rate.

I don't tend to recommend the pumpkin recipes that ended up on top by the numbers purely because they require heat root, a rare (and pretty valuable) forageable that you have to climb cliffs to get. Plus, pumpkins take a very long time to grow. As a result, if you're having to obtain the mats all by yourself, you may not be able to keep up with your own focus demands.

If you do a lot of foraging in Eastern Kilima anyway, meaty stir fry may be a good way to clear out your extra ginger or green onion, if you don't prefer to make pan-fried dumplings or cabbage rolls instead. (Ginger and green onion can be chopped up for the "any vegetable" part of the recipe.)

Pan fried dumplings and cabbage rolls have the advantage of not having any timed stirs or flips that you have to manage

And the reason I don't recommend spicy honey-baked muujin is PURELY because for some reason its sell value is RIDICULOUSLY high. If you make that recipe, I would be selling it for profit, not eating it 😂 (and it also wants honey, which is not hard to find, but not buyable, either)

However, that's all just, like, my onion, man

If you're feeding either it's useful. You might need some of those star fish for certain quests, so something to bear in mind, but the non-star are probably mostly safe to use... Although I suggest keeping a few enchanted pupfish if you somehow get them.

Since XP from kitchen cooking scales with number of steps, keep in mind that soloing longer recipes may not level you faster. In parties it can, though; cake parties are still especially good for rapid leveling.

Solo, the fastest way to gain cooking XP is still campfire cooking: grill all the common and uncommon fish you plan to sell anyway, as well as whatever excess meat and mushrooms won't fit in your glow worm farms. A circle of 4-5 campfires takes it down to ~5 seconds each.

Also don't forget to upgrade your focus bonus at the Phoenix Shrine where you first spawned into the game - the bonus goes all the way up to 100 percent, or double XP on everything as long as you keep yourself fed!

To be clear, I think the three-wheat recipes are both a bum deal for the wheat provider, but it WILL go through your wheat quickly?

If you have pumpkin pie already made, you might as well eat it for focus, because chopped pumpkins count 0 for the dish sell value. However, pumpkin pie is also not that great in terms of cost effectiveness as focus food, either.

To get the dish sell value of a kitchen-cooked dish;

• add up the base (unstarred) sell values of all the ingredients called for in the recipe (even if you use starred ingredients)

  • If the recipe has you CHOP cabbage, bok choy, green onions, ginger, pumpkin, or kopaa nuts, leave those out).

• Multiply that total by 0.375, then round down to the nearest whole number. This is the base dish sell value for one dish. (Remember you get 3 per recipe unless you miss a timed step.

• To get the value of the dish if it turns out starred, multiply the base dish sell value by 1.5 and round down.

Exceptions: cabbage rolls and spicy honey-baked muujin don't follow the formula

Every other kitchen dish in the game so far follows it, though.

cabbage rolls are definitely broken in our favor, too - they always sell for the same amount, even if you use vamp crab and brightshrooms as the meat and mushrooms 😂 the ingredient variables don't work right, clearly

Yes that’s true. Spicy pepper seed can be bought at the general store. Blueberry seed from badruu with gardening medals after you reach lvl 10. He also gives you some as your lvl goes up

IN regards to the flip: it does sometimes 'bug' by starting the dot so far to the end that starting the rotation counts as being inside it, forcing you to auto fail at lease once because click-hold, release, will immediately slip out. Which is very annoying.

cooking doesn't take star food quality into account for price EXCEPT for when you star the dish. Even then it merely helps match the value of the star ingredients, so you actually 'lose' or only match the gold value going in using it.

Not as big a deal if you just want the food for eating, or if it's a cooking party cause most likely you'll still gain some value, but it's odd game logic.

Nowhere to buy it that I've found (though lemme check if it can appear in foraging mystery bags).

If it helps, it does have quite a fast respawn timer, as far as epic forage goes. It despawns 2 minutes after being first picked, then another spawns 5 minutes later. So, when you see one picked, you can set a timer for 7 minutes to start hunting for the next one. A dowsing rod can help, too, I think.

Servers are usually pretty nice about calling them out and waiting to pick them if you say something in chat :)

purchase if you need them desperatly, otherwise they're floating around primarily in NW and W Kilima if I recall right. Depending on spawn you can get a dozen or so at a time easily enough but I don't know their respawn time. ^^;

They respawn basically instantly afaik; I've managed 90 spice sprouts in just over half an hour while in a party zooming around at top speed, but my party lead had a lot of experience finding them lol.

If you need them super fast, as Coldstone said, just buy them from the General Store.

Or forage as many as you can and then buy the rest when you're out of time?

• Cake parties! check #1143270926394335282 and PaliaParty.app for available publicly-posted ones, especially ones that are beginner friendly. This is the very fastest way to get your cooking level up in a hurry and make some gold meanwhile.
• Campfire cooking! Cook any common or uncommon fish you plan to sell anyway, as well as any meat and cheap mushrooms that won't fit in your glow worm farms. A circle of 4-5 campfires makes it very speedy (I like to stand in the center and rotate like a rotisserie Eliot)
• Any other group cooking (e.g. to make focus food) will also be faster than cooking alone

From flow trees you can find in Bahari. The trees will have a purple glowy ring around them. And at 12 am every ingame day a grove will spawn. A grove is usually a group of 2 or more flow trees. Just keep an eye out for chat people normally callout the grove location

Yeah, with the makeshift axe you'd only be able to tap sapling and young flow trees, same as regular trees

But a party can help you get around that anyway

So flow trees have a regen bar, the only trees you can chop by yourself are the baby and small tree’s but you need a exquisite axe. And then with bigger ones you need more people to chop them

You can chop a medium flow tree solo with an exquisite axe, promise (though it probably requires timing your hits a bit)

But if someone runs up to a medium flow tree (or any medium tree) with a makeshift axe and swings, it will tell them they need to upgrade their tool, and they won't get credit if other people come and "help" with the tree

(I've had several flow trees chopped down right in front of my face because I couldn't type fast enough to please invite me because my axe wasn't high enough, and seen it happen to other newbies who couldn't figure out how to accept a party invite. Very frustrating.)

I suspect we are just talking about different things (cutting down a flow tree solo vs. participating in chopping one down without being in a party) but it's important to have both pieces of information imo

You have to individually select them, I think, in the cooking menu. Although forage is so easy to get I wouldn't worry about spending the gold star forage

You can also put the stuff you never want to use in a locker chest and they won't be used for anything .

I forgot that meaty stir fry only requires prep and stove, so that's also a good option until you get the oven unlocked. You don't have to use garden vegetables for the chopped vegetable component, btw - ginger or green onion also works (though green onion is a pretty challenging chop minigame, lol)

if you have the mixing station, pan fried dumplings also works, but it requires onions and wheat, so a little harder on the ol' garden tiles

Versus 100/150⭐ focus (so, 300-450 focus for 3 dishes) for the soup at 142g opportunity cost for all starred ingredients (131g for all unstarred)

The focus per opportunity cost is much better on the meaty stir fry (and on steak dinner) as a result

And, of course, it only gets cheaper, faster, and generally more advantageous if you split the ingredients with other players

Any given recipe only has 2 possible focus amounts: base focus amount and star quality focus amount

I'm confused about why you were told level 10, but yeah, blueberry pie is available from Reth at cooking level 6. If you don't see it on the oven (just to double check: this is the big tall one, not the stove - I hear people swap the names often), maybe make sure you don't have a filter on at the top of the recipe list? sometimes that gets selected by accident (the spoons are difficulty filters)

If you want to solo then you have to keep cooking

leveling up solo is fastest by making a lot of grilled foods on multiple campfires or just mass prepping focus food! otherwise i definitely recommend joining a cooking party :)

i recommend starting by joining a free role of a cake party! i think those are the easiest to get accustomed to, and the wiki has a guide explaining them in more detail https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Cake_Party :)

in a cooking party basically everyone signs up for a role, and then repeats that role a set number of times so everyone can receive the dishes (cakes in this scenario) to sell! if you sign up for a role with ingredients you don't technically have to bring it with you as other people's plots have access to YOUR storage, but if you sign up for a free role (bakers or spreaders) you just complete the role!

no, star quality items can not be gifted. anything starred that you send will be normal quality when received by the requesting player. is he cooking with star quality oyster meat to begin with?

so he's cooked it with star quality meat before but didn't receive a star quality product? the only thing I can think to suggest is to try raising his cooking level by making some other things first and then trying again. unfortunately, cooking in a group only works for recipes that require multiple steps, so every one who participated gets the meal. since grilling oyesters only has one step, only one person can participate and therefore get the meal from it

that being said, i have not cooked in a group in a very very veeery long time so i may be wrong about that last point

Unfortunately, star quality food always has an element of RNG. You CAN get star quality grilled oysters from regular oyster meat, though.
The only things I can suggest to help him would be...

• go with him to the beach and help him scour for oysters
• he can request either the meat or the oysters themselves (to get up to 4, I think?)
• as a VERY last resort, uh... hotpot? the ingredients bags you get from the prize wheel have oysters in them some of the time.

That's correct, as long as he completes at least one minigame step! (chop, roll, mix, stir, flip, or removing an ingredient - not the final dish - from an oven all count as minigames).
You can even place the ingredient for him to use by starting the minigame yourself and then backing out of it (F by default on PC, whatever the cancel button usually is on your controller otherwise)

What I do is I first chop and roll everything, then proceed to cooking on the stove, then bake the bread, make the mustard and mayonnaise, grab the bread before it gets burnt, then burger sauce, then assemble. That's the easiest way for me... 🥲

while it might not be a very good tip, you can try to see if there's bean burger parties over in #1143270926394335282 and see if you can get a spot that's easiest for you to do with the arthritis. it's less intense as you just have to focus on one or two steps depending on what you signed up for (putting the dough in the oven and taking it out for example). and you still get the rewards afterwards. just something to think about, i personally never joined a large cooking party but they seem to be effective

This will depend signifiicantly on what recipes you plan to host

you'll also need a second prep station and oven eventually for solo cooking just so you know

With cakes, for example, you'll want mostly mixing stations, 3 ovens, 5 prep stations

But for other recipes that mostly want chopping or rolling steps, those will be mostly prep stations

Stove prep steps are much rarer... unless you're hosting sushi/sashimi parties where folks are doing rice overprep

So, really, it just depends.

I would actually recommend that you NOT have a very large number more stations than you need out on the plot at a time. Any time you start a recipe, they ALL activate, and that can cause significant lag.

You will never have more than 30 people (including yourself) on the plot at once, as that is how many people a game server can hold.

"Everybody gets their own little kitchen" is a cute in theory and looks neat on the plot, but in practice it tends to be chaotic if someone starts the wrong ingredient and has to scramble for another workstation, and most of the cooking appliances sit unused, in my experience

My do-all plot usually has out

• 1 oven

• maybe 10-12 prep tables?
  and that more than covers us for most recipes.

I also have in storage and pull out as needed:

• 2 more ovens
• pile of mixing stations (I think I have 11 total, which is what's needed for a full cake party)
• pile of prep stations
• pile of stoves for rice OP
  ...and materials to make more, just in case

In general, you will never need more than 30 each of mix, prep, or stove at once (because server capacity limits), and definitely never more than 4 ovens.

Had something similar happen. Sometimes the starting ingredient is also used as another ingredient, and if you only have 1, it won't tell you that you're short on them.

You can set separate keybinds for "interact with cooking station" and the default interact key, if that helps

I still turn lights in my workshop on/off when trying to get into my storage or put stuff in my crafters, but that's much less time-sensitive than cooking steps, lol

Tips to get fish stew recipe?

Prepare and add the ingredients in the order that you think that they should go in Don't just prepare them all and dump them all in at once

I do that and almost everything I make is basically always star quality even with the ingredients being normal unless I mess up somewhere in the recipe like chopping wild green onions, it's hard not to fail on that one, at least on switch

In fact, I've gotten so used to it that now it's hard to create normal meals, which are the only kind that the game accepts when someone requests them. I don't know why I can't just give them the starred ones

Usually, I think. But basically just imagine at what points in the recipe you would prepare or add the ingredients to make the tastiest meal. Like if you're making soup you put it in the chop your stuff then pot to cook while you bake your bread so the bread should be last in that example instead of ending it with stirring the pot. Maybe you think something needs longer to cook than something else so you put it in first or maybe what you're making needs to come together with all the ingredients before you can prepare the rest of the dish
Imagine potato fries with ketchup. Nobody that I know would like hot ketchup so prepare the ketchup first and then the fries is another example

You might be onto something, because the two recipes I've seen that have particularly high star rates (cabbage rolls and honey-baked muujin) have a very simple step order listed:
"Put the prepared thing in the oven."

However, I think there's also more to it, because with macarons, the step order is likewise very simple (you literally can't mess it up), and yet it's kind of hard to get starred ones:

Flowtato fries do have you adding the ketchup last, though... so, so much for that hypothesis.

Another good example is fish stew. I have cooked A LOT of rounds of fish stew using unstarred everything, on the order of probably a few hundred. Typical star rate has been 50%.

I'm half asleep so I don't know if I'm mistaking it for something else, but I don't think I've had issues cooking it like that. Part of the equation to get a star besides the most important method I talked about before is accuracy when prepping the ingredients like chopping vegetables while missing. None of them would give you a higher chance of a star rating, but I'd say it's also compounded by how long it takes you to cook

And the add order is pretty logical:

(stack up the 3 jellied cake layers, then frost it)

The typical star rate for cake parties (which go pretty quickly, for usually 50-100 rounds in a row) is ~66%

Yeah, 50% star rate for fish stew. This was all <20s per round (out of a 1 minute timer), solo, unstarred ingredients, zero chopping errors. My focus bar never went below 50%, and I'm cooking level 398.

Bahari at 12am - 3am is your best bet. There is usually a "grove" of flow trees that spawn. People will call it out and flare. Just let them know you're going to it so they (hopefully) wait for you to start chopping.

Sometimes when I go to cook recipes, the recipe card says I don't have an ingredient when I know I do. Most often this is with rice, onions and tomatoes. Does anyone know why or experience this too? It also sometimes just has a time icon on the vegetable I already have. I usually keep all my food in storage but have tried moving it into my inventory but it still doesn't recognise it.

Steak dinner is a good one. I use it myself. But making it is a bit too time consuming IMO.

Cabbage rolls are great in a group because of their high star rate, very forgiving of using miscellaneous meat and mushrooms as well (they always stack).

Both meaty stir fry and steak dinner will allow you to get away with only one item from the garden each (if you use ginger or green onion for the chopped veg for the stir fry). Steak dinner in particular has only 4 ingredients.

Even though the pumpkin dishes and honey-baked muujin come out on top numerically, they all take somewhat annoying ingredients (heat root, honey, slow-growing pumpkins), and tbh if you're gonna take all the time needed for the honey-baked muujin, it sells for SO much that I'd be hard-pressed to actually eat the darn thing instead of dumping it in the bin 😂

cooking with others is basically always more efficient than cooking solo, though

split the ingredients, split the time/effort

Yes, it scales by the sell value of whatever you're feeding them. You can estimate the glow worm yield by dividing the sell value in half, then dividing it by 25g (the value of 1 glow worm) and rounding

The farm will try to match the value as closely as it can, but not all dishes are a multiple of 25, so there is rounding involved

Example:
2 mottled gobi grilled together with an unstarred result is 200g
Divide that in half: 100g worth of glow worms
Glow worms are 25g each, so 100/25 is 4 glow worms per grilled fish
