fishing with bait is always better unles u want a 0.1% more chance at a certain plush a some biomes ... but hen get far less xp and gold
so if ur still low lv early in the game got a makeshift rod just compplete the ahicvements for no bait spots and recipes etc

So I did a ton of fishing yesterday and alternated between Highlands saltwater and Elderwoods saltwater, switching every time a fishing hook broke. And it could have just been my luck, but Elderwoods saltwater still seems top tier for profitability.

Average 7-8k gold per hook (25 casts) vs. 4-5k gold in Highlands, fishing at random times of the day. I repeated each area about 7-8 times last night, catching a mix of star quality and non-starred, about 12 mins per session. Glow worms only.

There’s a lot more bubble nodes in Elderwoods so you can consistently get starred fish without having to run around much. That’s likely the biggest factor in the profitability gap.

1. Use fishing boosts from food and special hooks.
2. It has an at least partial pattern, keep an eye open when fishing it.
3. If you want to save baits (not rod health though), look which fish it is, if not unicorn then reel the line in after it swam away and cast again. (If you don't reel in, the same fish will just bite again and again.)
