You can find most around the elderwood, but yes you have to buy a few aswell. There's 14/15 statues in total if I remember right and you can buy 2/3 of the flowers

Start by memorizing a small part of it, like Mitana Grove or Jeunesse Pass. Take note of what general items you can get on those parts (heartwood and honey for Mitana, ore nodes on Jeunesse, so on). Once you got that memorized, head to another part. Rinse and repeat.

Honestly, 4 irl days of fishing for the last Makeshift item isn't anything unheard of.
RNG is always a pain, and you have to battle it twice - once to get the chests, then once again when opening them.
Plus there's 68 possible items from Waterlogged chests...so the chance of you getting the one you want is unfortunately very slim.
Still, I wish you luck (for reference, I completed Makeshift the day before the Ranching update, so I understand the frustration. It took me well over a month, probably closer to 2, of only fishing when I was on)

edit: until then, I believe going to bahari from your plot will place you at the outskirts stable board

possibly a trick for the black pearls or maybe i’m just lucky - you have a chance of trufflets bringing you elder clam mushrooms and if you get a bunch of trufflets you can get a bunch of them. it seems my rng is way higher with the black pearls from the clams they give me. i opened probably 100+ from elderwood to get one. i’ve opened probably 50-75 from my trufflets and ive gotten 3 black pearls
