It was like, I guess 2008-2009 and I was longboarding down The Drag (Guadalupe Street in Austin, Tx, across from the University of Texas campus) and a family was walking, so I called out "on your left" .. and they all moved to the left. A 5 yr old little girl was directly in front of me, so I bailed and when I did, the board popped back and kick-flipped ME into the ground, and I broke two fingers (pinky and ring finger on my right hand) in two places (they were perpendicular to the other 3 fingers on my hand).
I hopped up, little girl was startled, and her dad grabbed my board. "I'm so sorry!" he said as I stood up and he saw my hand. "You need to go to the hospital!"
Me: Is she okay?
Him: Yes, yes, of course.
Me: cool.
I grabbed my board and was walking to Seton Hospital to get a splint when I saw a tattoo shop (Black Cat Tattoos) and thought 'well, i won't feel anything they do to me because my fingers are broken and that hurts a lot'. So I stopped at the 7-Eleven next door, grabbed a tallboy can (beer - PABST Blue Ribbon), chugged it by the trash dumpsters and tossed the can, and walked in.
Me: I need a tattoo or piercing, quick.
Artist: Uh, why "quick"?
Me (showing him my hand): Because I need to go to the hospital and won't feel it right now.
Artist: I can pierce you in 10 minutes.
Me: Um, let's do my bridge.
Fifteen minutes later, I was walking out with a bridge piercing, throbbing hand, and headed to CVS for some aspirin. Ended up getting some gauze, tongue depressors, and splinted my fingers myself. (Never went to the hospital - I was a broke waiter without insurance. Couldn't afford a big hospital bill.)
Worked the next day, bandaged up and got sympathy tips for "saving a kid from an accident".

The only bad part - those fingers have a touch of the arthritis now when it gets super cold. Ah well - got a cool story and piercing out of it.

Yeah, after that, I started rolling in the streets off the sidewalk. Which was great because I could keep up with cars (speed limit was 30mph) without having to slow down for walkers and groups of folks. Reduced my commute from my apt to downtown to by 10-15 minutes (and was SUPER fun when the streets would be empty and I could bomb the hills through like 4 lights).

The only time I had problems was on Veteran's Day. Got a ticket for riding my longboard in the bike lane from UT Campus to 8th St (15 city blocks) by bored bicycle Austin cops.... AT 7AM WHEN EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED AND NO ONE WAS ON THE ROAD.

That's BS in my opinion. To me, the bike lane is safest for longboarders since you're not on the sidewalk and not on the street. You're out of everyone's way and can move out of the way for bikers

The judge and I had a nice chat (after I paid the $100 fine) about where I could legally ride and where I couldn't.
TECHNICALLY, they don't like skateboards in the street and not on the sidewalk from the Capital to Congress St Bridge (10 blocks on one street).
Even gave me their business card if I ever got stopped anywhere else.

It’s been over a year and I STILL have not received access to any of the playtests. Is this normal?

I’ve been checking my email every couple months or so ever since they announced the playtests. The most I’ve gotten was an email to do the pre-playtest survey again for some reason back in June.

I know the playtests need to be small, but there’s no way that every person who has received access has been available. I’m not trying to sound negative or anything, I just want access already.

Unfortunately complaining doesn't get you anywhere. Testers are selected at random. You're in the pool, make sure you do those pre test surveys as from what I recall the CM saying, they do look for some attributes for some of the players. You're not the only one, the world is not against you. Keep your fingers crossed and wait patiently and hang out with us! There are thousands upon thousands who haven't been chosen as well. We can just hope for the best!

Exactly! I understand the game is still in early, early production. However, it has almost been a year and a half since the first playtest but it doesn’t seem like the playtests are getting bigger—although I’ve never been in any of them so I can’t say that for certain.

As long as their playtests and playtesters are getting them the right kind of and enough feedback to help them make the game, then that’s enough to make me happy and wait 👍

And the potential pool of testers is insanely huge, so until we get the really big playtests, it’s a waiting game for many.

First of all, skate 3 was the last skate game done by black box. And then there was no studio to continue it. Then 4 ish yrs ago at E3
Full circle got together (as far as i know) and got the green light to start working in skate. then its not just, straight to motion capture and making the game, its testing, its starting completely over, cause nothing is the completely same. And also getting some ideas together that fits the new generation of gaming- like how will it compete with these huge free to play games? How do they make it new and interesting. It takes long, bc its new, as they said THEIR BIG THING IS DONT F IT UP. So being patient is the best thing we can be.

I had the sweetest encounter today, my gf wanted to try skates so we went to decathlon because it's a free-for-all jungle out there. She got skates on and I grabbed a skateboard to roll around with her. Then I noticed a few kids about 5 years old staring at me, they were speaking a foreign language and just staring. Then after about like 5 minutes they grabbed boards and started to copy me and it was so cute they were laughing and trying all kind of things out and not before long they figured it out and we're cruising up and down the hallway laughing and having an absolute blast

It was announced for PC, and will at least require EA App (be it though the full EA App or the small EA App through Steam).

As far as porting to Linux, nothing has been shared - so at best (with current info), you’d probably have to side load/dual boot.

Good question I’ll make sure to share with the team, though.
