Twelve years ago I applied for a job doing phone support for EA in Austin.
Got the job, learned, did well, got invited to pilot various support programs, then was brought on to help administrate all EA forums and run our social support channels (EA Help Twitter/FB).
Did that for a couple years and built a team, then got brought on as Community Manager Oct 2015. Worked on Battlefield for 5 years as North American CM, then helped a 3rd party title, and then was brought onto skate. in Dec of 2020. Was tapped to handle CM duties for Need for Speed in May of this year.

Building a community during Covid presented challenges, but in a digital world, those challenges aren't as extreme as one might think.
Building a community for a game that was barely announced and is very early in development, while keep secret things secret (for now), that was a challenge.

Again, it all depends on what their definition of "riddled" is. If they're not going to impact gameplay in any way and are just for the customization stuff, I don't call that "riddled" and it won't bother me or a lot of people, I'll just equip what I get and be fine with that. If those guys are REALLY into dress-up and collecting all the clothes and boards ever made, yeah they might maybe consider it overboard depending on how the economy is set.

I remember playing a beta from riders republic and I sat down with a notebook and a pen and just wrote everything down what I saw, what I liked/didn't like. Bugs I found and so on. And then after the beta ended, nothing. Just silence.. So I guess it was just a network test haha

Internal folks may not be core skate. fans - and may have too much inside knowledge about game dev for stuff like onboarding and whatnot. External folks - about half "just play", so we have to cast a wide net to get a good response rate.

oh yeah I know all the pitfalls of having programmers be the only playtesters

when I was making my game prototype I was playtesting it myself and the overwhelming fact I learned when letting others play it is that I was making it WAY TOO HARD

and the tutorial was not ramping up slowly enough

I basically had to redesign all my levels

That's why it's so important to get such a wide berth of playtesters. Core folks, creators, etc. and folks that maybe only played THPS1 for 10 minutes. Gotta make sure the game is approachable for the uninitiated, but also has the hooks to keep the dedicated playing. (Hooks = gameplay loops, engagement)

I used to play Skate 1 at my dad's house, and when I got an Xbox 360 my first game for it was Skate 3. A lot of great memories with this franchise 🙂

Played thps 2 for the first time at my nephews house. A while later skate 1 came out and the controls just looked so awesome. Bought it and played it sooo much and then played 2 and 3 both at launch. Never bought a Tony hawk game, I liked the skate controls too much

I started out with THPS 3 and 4 on the PS2, but then moved to skate. and then later on Skate 3 on the PS3
