So you can scan the map for where Illuvials and resources might be located, but looks like it's still a matter of finding that right location and portaling to get to it... rather than just seeing the shard or herbs right there on the ground? 🤔

Within the trailer it gave me the impression we tag illuvials with some sort of round fired from a pistol before battling them. Does this mean illuvials are walking around in the open world then?

I'm sure AMAs have mentioned this us not the case.

Also at one point it appeared an AOE was used to reveal an illuvial that seemed to be camouflage/near invisible before again attempting to tag it with an energy round from the pistol.

Im not sure if you saw the open world scene where arlen was jetpacking and theres this see through sphere on the ground. It seems to be the illuvial encounter. Devs mentioned that you can scan these before engaging to know what illuvials you will encounter.

There are 2 reasons why illuvials aren't fully visible in the overworld.

1- Scope. It's a mountain of work to bring 150 animated, unique characters to life outside the auto battler.
Definitely not impossible but we want to deliver a polished product. We aren't Blizzard, yet.

Now that the gameplay trailer is out we're going on the next hiring wave. More animators, more artists, more devs etc.

2- Bots.

If a bot knows what characters are in an overworld map, they could destroy the system.
By only revealing after scanning or jumping into a battle, we prevent this.

Many discussions had about this internally and were always thinking of ways to improve the final experience

I thought it would be a bad idea but Grant insisted that the Axolotl Stage 1 would be super cute. He was right.

So when we started working on the Tiktaalik, which was the approved artwork, instead we accidently used the old Axolotl artwork. So the model was done, which takes about a week. And I thought we were going to have to scrap it and have a week wasted for that artist. But Grant said stage 1 would be cute so keep it. I didn't think so. I was wrong, he was right.

The names were Flatface -> Arrowhead -> Arblast.

Luckily I don't make the art decisions.

Technically neither. We absolutely made a mistake in doing the Axolotl line instead of Tiktaalik. But then they chose not to use the concept for stage 1 and instead use a different reference. We wouldn't have done axolotl at all if it wasn't confused for Tiktaalik. When we went back to the Tiktaalik line we ended up scrapping that concept so that it would be unique. I'm pretty sure Rogier did that one. And that's how fat tiktaalik was born. Original Tiktaalik was more whale in shape, and had heart scales.

Tier is something that is a statement about how rare and powerful they are. Keep in mind that there are stages too, and so for example a Stage 1 Tier 5 is usually weaker than a Stage 3 Tier 4.

Anyone else feel the illuvials move too slow on map from new video? Could just be me since I play a lot of tft. They just don’t seem as fluid yet

Yeah they do move slowly. I would be surprised if they can't change some variable such as ILLUVIAL_BASE_SPEED = 100 to whatever they want

Excited for the new leak, but it would be a lot more benefitial for Illuvium if the conditions for a new leak were not the number of reactions in discord, but the number of e.g. retweets on the trailer.

I was thinking the same it took quite some time for the scorpion to find new target and then he moved really slow

We aren’t yet totally focused on the speed because we are still normalising the animations. But yes, some will need to speed up. 🙂

Is it only me that finds rypterus movement speed too slow? When it killed its 1st target then moving to the nxt one was unrealistically too slow. In lore if they move like that theyll be the 1st illuvial to go extict in overworld😅
