Land is being sold via a Dutch Auction, where the price decays over the course of a few hours. A starting price that is too low can have some undesirable side effects, such as extreme gas wars, which lead to a poor user experience through wasted gas fees etc.

Just as an example, there was recently an NFT mint where about $7M of NFTs were sold, and something like $27M was spent on gas fees during that sale. That's what we'd like to avoid.

I think people are, but supply is still outpacing demand. The people using their staking rewards to get some liquidity haven't stopped minting and selling their sILV2, but so far no sILV2 has been used on anything. I personally think supply/demand is a bigger factor than trust in the project, but I could be wrong.
