For example, you spend hours and hours capturing rare Illuvials and realize some you don't plan on battling with. Other people may find them useful though. You could then sell your Illuvials to those other players for real money... rather than in-game currency. Or say one day you find yourself no longer having time to play the game and you have a ton of rare skins on your account.... you can sell them to other players as well.

Then we also have the ILV token. Current value of the token is $1015... and the team has 1 million ILV tokens set aside to be rewards for in-game players... whether it be through PvP/tournaments, challenges, quests etc.
