When you travel to a region you have a certain amount of energy. That energy can be used for a variety of actions including scanning, gathering, battle etc. In theory you can even capture more than one Illuvial per travel but using your energy wisely and thus optimizing your spoils per travel will make a huge difference between good and less good players.

Obviously the NFT space is different. In my brain, I associate $50 with a full game (even though they’ve gotten more expensive).

Because it's not meant to be swappable. It's the in game version pegged 1 to 1 with ILV specifically for in game purposes (but it's only pegged IN GAME) , but you can't just go around re-printing ILV. It's a choice between sILV and ILV. Every sILV printed, is 1 ILV that won't be.

You can see how the different strengths would play out when you choose your squad (ranged attack vs a slow melee "tank"). I can say with 💯 confidence there is a going to be a sweet looking game
