After weeks of tax/visa agony and another weekend full of research, I've finally narrowed my choices down to Enschede in the Netherlands or Malta. Now I'll be waiting to see how $ILV prices and RevDis turn out in a few months and then (after re-checking that no changes have been made/announced in those countries) make the final decision where to move to 😄

But I always wanted to live somewhere english speaking, warm and sunny though and since my dream place Australia isn't an option atm (visa/crypto taxes not ideal), Malta would be a nice choice. I can get into both ways of living but right now I probably would prefer something like Berlin or Perth in Australia so a bit bigger. Both unfortunately not ideal unless I'm willing to throw a lot of gains away in taxes. For NL though, Amsterdam looks just way too expensive so something like Enschede seems pretty nice. Still bigger than what I currently live in in Germany.

For easy HODLers, Germany is actually amazing. You buy crypto, you hold it at least a year and when you sell then ZERO taxes on any gains. Awesome right? That's what I thought too, which is why I wanted to just move back to "my city" Berlin. Problem is, newest regulatory news show that for people who do "more" with their crypto it is not that easy.

1. As soon as you use your crypto to generate any gains (f.x. staking) you would then have to hold your crypto for 10 instead of 1 year to be able to sell without paying taxes on gains.
2. The income you generate (for ILV f.x. staking rewards and RevDis) are taxed as well just in general.

That simply sucks hardcore. If I just would be a BTC maxie or something, Germany would be awesome. But when going for ILV and stuff...it sucks.

Also, you can avoid taxes without fraud. For example, ILV used for staking right now would mean you can only sell tax free for profit in 10 years instead of 1 year. Moving away, properly being a resident there, then selling some of those ILV tax free does not mean you're doing any tax fraud in Germany.

You are correct. Usually box 3 and I believe technically gains are a little different but in general everything above that amount (double if you gave a fiscal@partner) is taxed in that same category. Annoyingly that also includes value gains of owned property so if your portfolio skyrockets… 🤷🏽‍♂️.
Then when you are trading more then once a week (so not perse a pro trader) a case will be made that you are gaining income because trading os activity and therefor work.
