The stats are random, thye rol off the individual stats each illuvial has. For example, if you put 3 archies in, one has 20% attack power, the other 2 have 50%, it will roll attack power to be anywhere from 20-50%, it cant be lower. If one of those archies had a 0% attack power, there's a chance it could be 0% still. it does this for every single stat, individually. 'Filling' the whole hexagon doesn't do anything, it's the stats, 1 by 1, that are rolled.
There's a post in overworld chat where we talked about this more with Brian, let me get it for you. Might make more sense

Also, the ringnut item to restore integrity can be used in between fights when you are in the overworld. You don't have to use them during an encounter. Just bring up your consumables in inventory and press Z to bring up team, then drag the ringnuts onto the ones who need it.
