I've been playing Hogwarts Legacy for a few times this week now, it's such a thoughtful and polished game. Worth every penny

So of course I got thinking about Illuvium OW and man we're a long ways off on this scale and polish. This is not meant to be a jab but I do realize more and more the staggering amount of work required in delivering these games. So much respect to the team... but at the same time it did give me a reality check and it's gonna take some time until we see post-beta OW if it's really supposed to be of this quality. Things we still might have to see even started if we aim for the best experience:

• Building your camp: Crafting and all these can be basically numbers and ticks on a menu or you can provide flourish. Build specific forge-like structures? Decorate the area? There's so much stuff to do in HL's Room of Requirement
• NPCs, voice acting
• Quests/missions/terrain mini-games
• Illuvials roaming around: In HL I'm able to visit a biome in an open world, find some Hippogryphs and cast a spell so it slows down so I can capture them with my nab-sack directly. If I'm not careful they get scared and fly away and I can chase them with my broom
• Cinematics

If you don't know how the pets in Hogwarts Legacy looks you'll love it, look it up. What stood out to me is how the magical creatures you capture/breed are basically like illuvials. They have great animations and look amazing. Always gives me a warm feeling when I visit my vivariums to brush and feed my pets. I would say this is the kind of experience they have to go for, the emotional attachment you'll get with your illuvials will be exciting to see. So best of luck and I hope they all pull it off. It's gonna be a long and fun ride. Hogwarts Legacy started development in 2018 by a studio that existed since 1995. My humble prediction for OW full release is about 2025 and if we get it earlier it will look half baked and not AAA. THIS IS FINE, we'll get betas and early access stuff along the way

Think about it – with everything else in the pipeline, and especially having to preexisting IP like Harry Potter to jumpstart the lore, how long would it take to push OW? 2024 just sounds impossible. But again, it's fine!

There is a clear two speed community right now. My take...

As a holder of a significant amount of ILV since balancer and SLP since then, I havent sold a single ILV. I also came to ILV via SNX.

While delays are unfortunate, understanding projects and business are crucial to making sound judgements as a community.

Remember when Illuvium launched, we were at the start of the bull market. Since then, the market as decayed into this bear, influenced by macro shenanigans, even the 'experts' didnt see coming.

Remember in the 2021 peak, Kieran talked at having over 200 in the team, pushing out quality such as PB1 and 2 of Arena in swift time. Now the team has significantly reduced, to save money but also focus funds where its most needed.

While i agree the original dates were probably unachieveable, the team have attempted to give us what they can over the recent 12 months. As a community its important to understand how a business operates and how changes to the fundamental markets it operates in changes also. In hindsight, selling some ilv at its peak for USDC sounds smart, but we dont have a crystal ball.

The team have always put the community first, by offering leaks, extending lock periods and putting their own money up with the SILV debarcle.

Look past what is right now and look bigger picture. CSGO in March 2023 sold over 39million skin boxes with keys for these costing 2.50$ each, bringing in just under 100million$ for Valve, the developer. Yes, those funds stay right there, not distributed like this project will.

Be patient fam and give the team time to do their thing. You are part of something amazing, dont be an average crypto investor and scream FUD when something doesnt go your way. Good things come to those who wait.

How can you be sure it will be on par though? Money is a crucial factor in game development but not really determinant of a team's capabilities coughs in star atlas. There are amazing games created by small indie studios with limited budgets, proving that creativity, innovation, and skill can offset huge financial constraints. Team is at a disdvantage here having to show us unfinished work from time to time which we can't judge but that only means there's still lots of work to do even for those that they already show

I guess my point though is the AAA label...
I think Illuvium team is on the right track but somethings I realized (after playing mainstream games a bit more lately) is that some things are the standard than exceptions. For instance, good fur/hair work, textures, or foliage. Ultimately I just don't want us to end up with a lower quality game when all this time they've been claiming AAA

People also got to keep in mind that game engines like Unreal are getting absurdly good with tech advancements so the barrier is getting lower to push for baseline visuals and it's the polish that matters. Speaking of developments, I wonder how AI plays into this, probably makes other workflows easier as well

You can beat it now. Because it hasn’t trained. But once we lock in the game mode we will train it. And then it should become better. It will know the balance inside out. It will try 100000 hours of play in no time.

It will finish a 15 minute match in less than a second.

If we juice it it can probably play 100 matches simultaneously. It’s probably something like 200,000 faster at training than a human. It isn’t as SMART, but doesn’t really matter when you play for years each day.

for survival ai knows everything, same as in chess were there are plays humans just can´t see realistically, I wonder how it is in a pvp situation, were you have a 60/40, will the AI always decide the 60? if yes, should be predictable and beatable imo

That’s actually one of the negatives for the ai. The decision space is just so big.

One reason Discord has slowed down is because we have other things to do now. There's Overworld and Autobattler to play, those who own land are playing Zero and Illuvitars are out. I'm only here at the moment because I stupidly forgot to cut my plants down before upgrading a building on Zero so now I have to sit and wait for 9 more hours. Otherwise I would be playing the game.

Yes, understand this, but played Autobattler + Overworld and was good after a couple days. Amazing graphics, don't get me wrong and congrats to the feel for delivering on this front.

Land is something I am happy I picked up and was patient about. They have given us a lot better playing experience than we were first shown.
