there's a lot of different ways things can happen. metamask hot wallets have your seed phrase available in the browser, or you can sign a transaction that is malicious that gives someone access to your assets. To avoid the contract risk you can have an account on you hardware wallet that is a 'hotter wallet' that you use to transact or use protocols. Anything you plan on holding (staking, core positions etc) never touches any contract it doesn't have to and isn't used for anything risky.

cant transfer to a cold wallet now,I use a ledger which has been great.you need to wait until your stake is unlocked.Make a Hardware wallet generate new adress and transefer from old wallet to the fresh adress

presuming you didn't move it, if you go to immutable's site (immutable.com) and go to their market place and connect your wallet, you should see it under My Assets

make sure to set up your ledger wallet on immutable first. its been a while since I did it, but there are instructions on immutable's site. there's a couple steps before the address is active on L2
