At this time, the game is playable in the current private beta test. This stage of the private beta only contains Survival mode PVE for the autobattler arena. If you're asking about the open beta which includes all game modes, that won't be ready until there have been private beta tests for the other aspects of the game.

After this current stage of the private beta, there will be an Overworld private beta, an Ascendant Arena private beta (PvP), as well as the Illuvium Zero private alpha test for landowners.

(Not necessarily in that order, I'm just naming things that are expected to come before there's an open beta public launch 🙂 )

It's true that illuvium won't have something for every genre of player on release. Collectors and autobattlers will be well catered for though. It's a starting point, in time more types of players will feel at home in illuviums IBG as more games are included.
