The game never states what happens to earth, it only makes pretty clear that the ship is allready on its way for centuries and Rockwell only on it for around 3000 days.

And I expect it to End when Helena becomes homo Deus and mei and Diana make their way to Arat Prime.

he’s probably acting as a narrator of sorts because if you look at the scene he voices over in the official trailer, it look like cave drawings that then crack open to show a actual scene from the series. So my theory is that the animated series may be partly Santiago telling the story of the Arks to his tribe from knowledge he found in the Genesis archives. (do keep in mind this is a theory and a bit of a stretch)

Santiago in Ark 2 is not Santiago from Abs/Ext. He never was on the Arks, never experienced the story on the Arks. and he is no clone of the Abs/Ext Santiago

There are actually 4 Santiagos. The original from the Element war.

Then you have Santiago a) who is a clone of the original Santiago and got put on the Arks, most likely he is most like the original and sacrifice himself and dies on Extinction

Then there is Santiago b) also a clone of the original Santiago, but with altered memories and likely altered personality, etc. who is put on the Gen 2 ship.

Just being near Dimetrodon gives excellent protection from both heat and cold, which has saved my life through more than one ice blizzard in the frozen northlands

eh, personally i'm not really afraid of the animated series getting the lore wrong just on the basis of people who read the original will probably never be happy or satisfied with an adaptation. Probably will leave things out, probably will have some terrifying scandal that turns #ark-animated-series and #lore-nerdz into a chatstorm among the truly dedicated theorists, but that's not really an issue for me in terms of enjoyment.

They cant get the lore wrong. Its their lore to do with as they like. If they change the lore then the lore is changed.

i prefer they stick to the game lore to prevent alienation from the hardcore #lore-nerdz (which is why most "games/books to movies/series" failed most of the time) but there is enough plot holes and unanswered questions that needs to be filled by the series and a question of "canonification" of the Gen Chronicles which is as of now, a forced insert to the ARK side of the lore (Island to Ext)

Dollie said the animated series is kinda canon and that they changed some things in favor of the series but wanna stay true to the chars. Some changes are unavoidable to keep the series fluent and that they add chars and more deepth but it will depend on how much really is changed and how it is changed.

Never underestimate people that know the lore of a game, book, etc. and why so much games only make spin offs and don't touch the original chars of a game and only cause I make something I still should stay true to my own lore as much as possible.

Sticking to a single purpose lore too much can have a negative effect if the IP expands later to other mediums as well. I get the impression from comments made that they are doing whats best for the medium of an animated series to achieve a quality show and not a mere nod to the game. Which is what i would prefer, i want the show to be a good show, not just something existing ARK fans will enjoy, but something that also stands on its own and introduces new fans to the IP

Altering the lore to much could have a way more negative effect on the IP. A lot more than sticking to it cause the first people watching Ark will be the ones that play Ark and it could evoke wrong hopes in people that never touched Ark (depending on the changes).

Also I don't see a problem with sticking to the lore and still having a great show. There is still enough room to introduce new things cause there are a lot of gaps to fill.

Going away to much from Lore could end like (as very extreme example) like the Monsterhunter movie and I could name some more.

not all the aspects of the lore may be the best way to depict something in a different format, the lore was developed with the game in mind, so its very likely thats not the best way for some aspects to make a successful animated show. different formats have different needs and no matter how you romantacise it its all for business and good business would be seeking to make the best product which in some cases may mean they change things so its more entertaining, or appeals to their target audience more, or maybe even jsut to please their investors/backers etc.

of course they arent likely to just hack and slash their way through the lore discarding and changing things with no regard to the existing fans, they arent stupid. i expect any changes would be subtle and make things better, not worse.

honestly i feel like lore nerdz and people who have already dedicated themselves to the characters will be disappointed no matter what happens. They skip an event some people feel is important, it's unfaithful. They make a casting decision that doesn't match how they originally depicted the characters, it's unfaithful. They introduce a new character or only mention an old character in passing, it's unfaithful. There's no way to win with an adaptation, because if they do it scene for scene exactly how it is in the original it'll be confusing and have pacing issues.

Instead of asking if #ark-animated-series will be true to the lore why not ask if it's entertaining to watch, incorporates references to the game, and has cohesive plot and characters? Ares' example of the Monster Hunter movie is definitely correct in that it's a departure from the lore of the game (from what i've heard), and yet i only heard about the game after I watched the movie and i still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Even we lore-nerdz know that some stuff will be changed to make the whole animated series more fluent and understandable and that is not an issue. Also adding chars is not an issue cause it is needed and I think everybody of us knows there have been other chars around the main protagonists/antagonists which are not mentioned in the Notes.

The problem with the chars is all have an established look and personality in the notes and changing that in an extreme is something that totally destroys it for me and I bet a lot of people that are invested in lore at least don't like it when a character gets changed drastically and I have talked to a bunch of people that are actually don't like to drastic changes.

Lets take Harry Potter as an example of very thoroughly cast actors, were the actors all fit very good on the characters.. lets say Harry Potter had not been Daniel Ratcliff but instead a blond, 30 year old man, with no glasses, prefect features, athletic statue and totally different looking than the actual Harry from the books, then also change the personality as well and make him unable to wield magic (yes I am exegerating here). I bet a lot of the people that did read the books would have been annoyed by it.

And if something is entertaining to watch also depends on if it is at least in most parts true to the lore for people who are invested in it Cause if it goes away from lore way to much it is not entertaining anymore for people that are invested in it.

And comeing back to Monster Hunter.. my friends and me, who are nearly all Monster Hunter players did not enjoy the movie at all, cause it is a kick in the face of the original lore and world of it.

idk, i'm not really talking about the catastrophic failure movies/stuff that completely ignores the source material. Harry Potter and LoTR movies (haven't seen the hobbit ones) are both mostly faithful to the books, but it is incredibly easy to find people online who say that there are discrepancies they don't like, or slight alterations they wouldn't have made. Yes, if dollie is saying the ark animated series should match the lore then it's reasonable to be frustrated if it doesn't. But people who dedicate themselves to the explorer notes as they tell the story are never going to be satisfied because they notice more contradictions than affirmations.

i think the monster hunter example works well because it reveals a lot of bias here- if you don't know the lore, you'll enjoy what's there, and if you do know the lore, you'll be upset at what isn't there. I have no sense of what the ark animated plot should be, i'm only watching it because i enjoy playing ark. That's a pretty large bias because it means i'll enjoy it no matter what (unless it's not even true to the game, which is unlikely. Some people do complain that it probably won't be true to official pvp servers), I have nothing to lose here. But a lot of the people worried about the lore contradictions also have a significant bias because they've spent time researching these characters, writing fanfic about them, and generally getting to know them as the explorer notes tell them. So they're not going to be happy with any change to the characters, because that's not the character they know.

at the end of the day it's unlikely they'll get too much dramatically wrong, and the show will likely be entertaining. but if you're concerned about it being unfaithful, try to sift through your expectations and eliminate unreasonable ones.

LotR and Harry Potter are good examples for good adaption. The changes made are not to drastic and they mainly stay true to the books also you see that thy did cast very careful and that they stood true to the chars. The Hobbit was ok but lets say The Lord of the Rings is way better.

I read both books, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and sure made changes and I actually know what has been changed in most parts but the chars are still true to the ones in the books and most changes are leaving out some minor things which are in the books.

I am also fine when the character does not look 100% like the one in the books, comics or games.. don't get me wrong.. I only don't want them to look extremly different or like some do, gender change an existing char (so I doubt WC woll do that.)

Cause for me that is a no go. The characters are normaly made with a lot of thought behind them and changing the gender is a drastic move IMO.
