You lose MMR by getting tagged early, failing to tag anyone, or leaving the match. The system also considers the MMR of the players you're matched with. If you beat higher-ranked players, you gain more. If you lose to lower-ranked players, you lose more. It calculates your performance purely through stats like tag count, survival time, final placement, movement. This MMR is never shown exactly, only through the bar. HOWEVER, once you hit anything or near sliver or above, it's very hard to gain or rank up mmr because your mmr is much higher than the lobbys mmr, so it works again you.
