I feel like the krill are just like the other animals as well. But they know dangers. Light is threatening to them in large numbers. They abandoned the lands they once ruled over because the elders and spirits learned how to create their own to cast out the darkness forever, forcing the krill to go into hiding.

They attack the light creatures knowing that too many of them could kill them- just like in the fire trial. All that light- they can't survive in.

Because of the darkness that forever is casted over Wasteland and eden, they are allowed to roam there, its why they fled. There.

Wasteland was where the wars happened because it was land that was impossible to bring back with the help of lights. (Like in ark). Unfortunately, it wasnt just a two sided war. It was also the krill.

Perhaps they did try to tame them. They can't be tamed with light like the other creatures though. So it was impossible for them.
