Ok so, Megabird is a collective being. She is MADE UP of stars. In order for a collective being to exist, however, it must be able to exert some control over its parts. To simplify, it requires a hivemind like structure, which requires a direct mental link between beings.
Now, looking at the elders and what they did when you brought them light, they largely seem to get rid of it quickly. Daleth (isle) accepts it with his staff, but also keeps it in his staff. Ayin (Prarie) turns it into a butterfly and stores it away. Teth (forest) stores it in a diamond and sends that up into space. Samekh (Valley) straight up yeet the light. Tsadi (wasteland) launches the light with their spear. Lamed has you stick the light into a diamond and yeet it into space. None of them actually take the light for themselves.
This suggests that for whatever reason, they want to get rid of it even if they need it to sustain themselves. This is suspicious.
There's more to the theory that explains Orbit and why we have to buy everthing from the spirits to get the elders into orbit, but let's save that for another time

is it generally accepted that there are two valid ending scenarios, one which rebirth(credit) is considered the definitive end, and one which account for events after the rebirth(cyclic continuum)?

My theory is, and I try to keep this as evidence based as possible but still with a whole lot of interpretation, was that according to the intro all the “Stars”, here referring to the elders, were “united” in the light. Then, “darkness came and the stars fell”. My interpretation of this is that they began to harness the powers of the light itself. Trapping it, shaping it in different forms and for different contraptions such as the diamonds. They even went on to imitate life, creating the butterfly jars and even controlling birds. The light might’ve seen this as impure to its own creations, or got jealous out of a bad imitation. So, it kicked them all out and they “fell”. After that they built a kingdom in the clouds and continued their practices of harnessing light, even teaching the residents of the clouds themselves. But all of this new found technology turned to greed, the constant hunger for light to power their contraptions and store their knowledge. Finally, the first diamond was created. Used to elevate objects, to elevate knowledge cubes. What if they could use it to elevate themselves? In a last ditch attempt to return to the light, they created the biggest Diamond ever to lift their kingdom into the very heavens itself, but it backfired. Everything turned to ruin, the resulting storm draining the light from every living thing, creating the krills. Creatures of darkness that also constantly hunger for light, never to be sated. At the sight of this The Light despaired. And it forgave them. So it sent us down with a mission, to “bring our stars home”.
Now the only problem with this theory is I can’t fit the king/prince into it
But I’m assuming either the false king/idol theory is correct or we are the prince. Notice how The Light says to “bring our stars home”. This could mark supremacy over the elders, or it could mean that we’re an avatar of The Light, which could also be seen as a Monarch.

That’s probably because we were handcrafted by the light itself, like all the mantas and jellyfish etc. all creatures who can fly.
It should also be noted that the main creatures that return to the light, are all aquatic in our world. And judging from the elder cutscenes, they tried to imitate the light and created, or at least controlled birds. It does seem like they created butterflies from the jars though, as it’s the only purpose we can observe from the jars.
But birds and butterflies aren’t aquatic creatures. See the contrast? That would make it very poetic for The Light to forgive the elders, allow them home, as well as allow their creations home too.

@autumn pelican if they are actually mechanical and not creatures deprived of light, hence why they constantly search and hunt for it, I’d imagine the elders created them to police the continuous flow of light. Think, as an authoritarian state.

Ok. I just finished my first run through of Sky. Here’s what I gathered of the lore so far. I apologize if this has already been confirmed, I’m lazy and don’t feel like scrolling up countless posts.
We are reincarnated souls of a lost civilization who have little to no memory of our home. The civilization was fairly advanced (there’s pottery, big complex buildings, libraries, paper, boats, bridges, arcs) and seafaring. The stars had a significant impact in their society. It seems like they prayed to them and the dead seem to go up to the stars and falling stars are souls being reincarnated. They were probably semi close to nature (there’s a whole level that takes place in the forest and glowy butterflies, birds, and fish make a common appearance). They were probably curious people who liked puzzles (look at the sheer amount of hidden books and crannies and puzzles available to explore). Community might’ve been a strong thing for them as some of the puzzles need others working together to complete.
Things were going well. They eventually started friendly competitions featuring various tasks. Then something happened. It was probably either internal or external strife that caused a war based off of the Golden Wasteland and the theme of the spirits we see there. This caused the vast majority of the civilization to die out. If any survived, they were not able to revive their culture.
If the reincarnation thingy only works w the memories we have, then this is likely where we die. The spirits whose memories we relive are likely guides to help us learn about the civilization and what happened.

But when something happens to those who are close them, they would sacrifice everything to save and support them, this implicit juxtaposition defines the sky kids, to me that is the real courage.

to add onto that i just love that the game doesnt make us kick butts to show courage. it just does it so subtly like in eden you see them go on without any weapons but even that alone makes them admirable

Dark crabs are just light crabs infected with darkness. The reason we don’t see other creatures infected like this is because either, everything else infected with darkness just kinda dies, but crabs are somehow able to survive infection, or the rather more depressing option, the dark crabs we see are actually dead crabs, but their bodies aren’t destroyed by the infection/naturally decay away because of their hard exoskeleton, so the darkness just pilots the body around like a zombie.

The majority of the population lived in the valley. The valley was also likely the sports and entertainment centre of the city.
