Following up for season of Aurora lore, seems so far we have had Wayfarer give a blue light from Isle, very similar to the blue enchantment light from valley which purified water, and prophecy light for water trial, in aurora to create walkways in the coliseum.

Miner give a green light from forest, similar to the enchantment green light from prairie, which made grass grow, earth trial in prophecy, which in aurora causes trees to grow.

And now warrior who gives a light blue/cyan light from valley, similar to the cyan light from enchantment from isle which purified the air, air trial in prophecy, which in aurora creates murals and artworks.

Seed comes out Monday, so guess we have orange, purple, and red from the enchantment mixing pot, or "fire" from the prophecy pot.

I still think this is wrong: I think it’s Valley, Prairie, Isle, and Forest respectively

YEAH I think this makes more sense than what was originally written.

However I have some alterations. Blue is the hardest one to place but I see it as on an island in the ocean; this can be either off/near the coast isle or an island in outer wasteland. I don’t think this one looks like valley, to be honest, (but it looks like hidden forest even less)

I agree with you on Prairie.

I think you’re right with Isle too. It could be the birds nest, but again, I doubt it.

Forest, you could make an argument for it being golden wasteland — we know there are tree husks at the forgotten ark, but due to the size I agree that this is Forest. We can also see that there are lots of jagged tree stumps that look very much like burnt out tree husks there as well.
[1/2]

#

But what I wanted to add on here is that these might not be exact locations we see ingame. They could just be the types of places most associated with those colored lights, or ones that show off their power the most.

What I mean here is something like — blue light is water. It makes you think about oceans. So you draw it in the middle of an ocean — not a specific ocean, just any ocean, to communicate that it’s water. This is because oceans are the most “water” place you can think of.
Green is earth and plants so you draw it in a field of flowers with mountains nearby to communicate that that’s what it does. Flowers for the plant part, and mountains because they have a pretty large association with the rock aspect. They’re basically just giant hunks of rock, I don’t think I have to explain that one.
Cyan is air, so you draw it in the sky on some floating islands. This is the most air place you can think of, because it’s the sky, and also maybe it’s holding up those floating islands too, who knows?
Orange is fire. This one’s a harder one. You could draw a volcano, but lava is just superheated rock. So you opt for a forest fire instead. It’s not really a place associated with fire (unless it’s a very specific type of forest, but I can get into that separately, and besides I doubt Forest is that kind) it just shows off the fire the best. Forest fires are dramatic and iconic.

TLDR: these aren’t specific locations in the realms. They’re just landscapes meant to best communicate what that specific light does and what it’s associated with.

#

If I gave you an abstract blue star symbol and told you to draw something that told me that what that symbol represented controlled water, you’d draw it in the middle of the ocean surrounded by rain, right? And so on.

untold notch
#

and we still get nothing for red and purple SkyDontGo

keen shore
#

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best, and I think this is one of those cases

#

Btw the type of forest that I’m talking about is pine barrens! they’re a very specific type of environment with mostly shrubs and small pine trees. The plants within are adapted to surviving fire better, and so pine barrens depend on fire to burn away plants that can’t handle it as well. Some of them also rely on fire to open up their seeds to sprout them!

But Forest has massive trees and near constant rain, so it’s probably the exact opposite of a pine barren. I doubt the rain is natural but it probably qualifies as a temperate rainforest by now.

[Note: all this is off the top of my head from memory, tried to fact check a few things but couldn’t do them all. If you know I’m wrong about something let me know! Not super confident in my knowledge on this subject]

sharp lichen
#

Prairie is self explanatory, and Isle…

Isle has no floating islands now, but that doesn’t mean much, given how different Sky’s geography is. And considering “above the clouds” is what’s shown in the murals and we find the Cyan Light above the clouds, I think it fits.

Given how connected the lights already are, the murals are probably showing the locations of the lights as seen in Enchantment.

uncut pond
#

If the cyan light is wind and it is in Isle, what if the cyan light is related to how Dawn can (allegedly) guide boats and flocks of birds? What if their power is to control the flow of the rivers of light, which might be synonymous with wind currents or related to them in a way?

The Forest being pine barrens once is a pretty cool headcanon, but at least for the time period this mural was made, I can’t see it as true — the trees are too large, unfortunately. Maybe before the mural was drawn, though. I see the events of prophecy as not happening long before the disaster, leaving lots of time for pine barren Forest to be real.

As for the others… I mentioned earlier that I don’t think prophecy happened too long before the disaster (I can explain why, it’s very tenuous stuff but it makes sense in my head, unfortunately we don’t have a ton to go on tineline wise) but if that is not true I still don’t think the murals would depict the realms in that state. Mostly for convenience for us as players of the game trying to identify them, rather than anything else.

still holding on to my perception above as I believe it makes the most sense to me personally

Thinking about forests that are prone to and even need fire pEyes
Black spruce forests, a type of boreal forest, are highly flammable and almost designed to burn. Fire carries well in the understory of black spruce forest. Plants such as feather mosses, lichens, and shrubs in the heather family burn easily.
Some seeds even won't open unless a forest fire happened !
Some plants, such as the lodgepole pine, Eucalyptus, and Banksia, have serotinous cones or fruits that are completely sealed with resin. These cones/fruits can only open to release their seeds after the heat of a fire has physically melted the resin.

hmmm now that I think about it, you know how fire represents light (candles) and (dark) water represents darkness (abyss, wasteland) sometimes ? What if that was another symbolism ? Fires destroying buildings and old trees in the forest as part of the cycle (pyrophyte ecosystem), which ancestors oppossed obviously. So with the power of water, they induce inertia so their buldings are left to stand, but it hurts the forest around them.

spring python
#

(omg brazil reaction hearts)

keen shore
#

YEAH those are the sorts of plants I was talking about! Fire bringing new life…
I know fire can clear out dead/dying plants even in forests that don’t revolve around it, allowing new plants to grow. However, consider

Pre pollution Wasteland with fire-based ecology, instead of Forest…

I also love the way you connected this concept to the whole light as change concept, it makes a lot of sense!

frigid tinsel
#

I’ve been saying this for ages — the orange light made wildfires in Forests and even though we generally see wildfires as bad and try to stop them like the ancestors/Rain using blue light, they’re actually a natural part of the ecosystem to allow new foliage to grow the point some plants rely on fire in order to perpetuate.

keen shore
#

YEAH I WAS FHINKING OF YOU TOO!!

Wondering if those necessary wildfires were suppressed for a while so that they wouldn’t damage any infrastructure there. So when one did finally happen and wasn’t caught in time, it burned much more than a natural one would

spring python
#

There is a type of vegetation in Brazil by the name of Cerrado which naturally catches fire during drought, actually, and it is actually an important factor in its upkeep, but also gives the trees this rough aspect. Unfortunately, farmers take advantage of those seasons to cause unnatural fires that can go undetected as they blend in the natural ones

earnest briar
#

Alasdair, Indians is a really outdated and probably offensive term when you're referring to the tribes who lived in the US before the settlers came.

frigid tinsel
#

Actually the opposite is true — most American Indians prefer the term Indians rather than Native American

#

Of course preferences will differ between tribes and individuals, but Indians is still an acceptable term

rigid mural
#

I think it would make sense for them to dislike "indian" tbh since the colonisers called the area they found the "indies" thinking they arrived in India.

#

Google does say the terms can be used interchangeably but there's preferences depending on each tribe and person.

frigid tinsel
#

Again it varies but a large percentage still prefer Indian to refer to all indigenous people in the United States area. Whereas Native American was a term that was pressed upon them against their wishes that they feel doesn’t encapsulate their experiences.

#

It’s why federal organizations with Indian in them keep the name, such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs

earnest briar
#

ah, I didn’t know that.

rigid mural
#

Oh okay, thank you for the clarification !

untold notch
#

that's good to know

frigid tinsel
#

it’s preferable to refer to specific indigenous people by their tribe, but when speaking of them generally you can use Indian (US), First Nations (Canada), or Aboriginal (Australia), or indigenous people of [country].

It’s not that Native American is an inappropriate term, but it’s more controversial in the indigenous community. Indian more or less was reclaimed like queer is for LGBTQ+ folk.

#

Not saying Indian was ever a slur but to draw similarities.

soft timber
#

This is also similar to how there are people who prefer African American over Black and vise versa, and even some like me who prefer to be called what my origin is (I am technically of Carribean decent but I call myself Mixed for the fact that I'm American born, but my grandparents are from 2 different countries in the Carribean)

Not really a slur but to assume that someone is African American or Black just for their skin tone can cause a bit of chaos

frigid tinsel
#

Yea, Black is generally used for those of the African diaspora thus don’t know their cultural origins, but those who do tend to call themselves by their nation or culture. African American is dubious. Some use it but I know of those who fiercely oppose having that applied to themselves, like my dad.

#

A lot of white people tend to use African American when they should really use Black, like I’ve seen “British African Americans” which is just... lmao

#

Have also seen this exchange:
“There are no African Americans in Europe.”
“Yea, there are. They’re called Black Europeans.”

spring python
#

It’s important to note it can vary depending on language too, in Brazil you should not use the term Indian (Indio) as they have expressed before the term indigenous or native is more proper over here

frigid tinsel
#

Hence why I said for indigenous people of the United States

HOWEVER

If the Megan is indeed a God with it's own will & not simply a personification of the light, then it is a very selfish one. It sends children to collect light and reunite it with itself without seeming concern for the children in question, or even the spirits in question considering it sends the children AFTER the collapse to clean up the mess rather than during or before to prevent it.

@noble ferry

Ok i thought more about the ancestor mechs, and while i wont doodle them rn because its late, i do have ideas for their uses

Theyre all modelled after their respective elders,

Isle - Guidance
With a "lighthouse staff", these are used for signalling groups and directing traffic, like the Elder directs the birds. Being a smaller build, they are also used for patrols into more dangerous areas, as the staff can also be used as a makeshift weapon and a torch.

Prairie - Transportation
Strong and sturdy, suited for carrying supplies and objects, moving boats, herding large mantas etc. They can stack things on their backs and run for longer on less power.

Forest - Construction and Mining
Smaller and more dextrous, suited for building temples, houses, and for mining operations. The 'hair' is a series of plates that can wrap around the body like a teepee, to protect the mech and pilot in the event of a cave-in or similar incident.

Valley - Exploration
Similar to Forest, these ones are less bulky and more agile, so they can run and jump. The hands and feet have claws that can fold out for extra grip when climbing mountains or walking through snow.

Wasteland - Demolition
Similar build to Prairie, but larger and stronger. Heavily armoured to protect it from impacts and debris. Their strength is what led to them being repurposed for warfare, able to wield giant weapons.

Vault - Organisation
Used solely within the Vault itself, these are the smallest of the fleet and have hovering capabilities, to arrange and sort the memory cubes stored within.

#

As for the belligerents of the conflict, my friend on another server pointed out that if you turn off the music, you hear people yelling as waves of arrows are sent, so it must be ancestors vs ancestors.

Two shields theory (based off the fact there's two different kinds of symbols on Wasteland shields) proposes that it was a conflict between ancestors protecting darkstone factories (see how the first krill area looks like the forest temple, a refinery) while the other sided with light creatures against their abuse (concept timeline has light creatures warring against ancestors).

I think it would fit the realm since Wasteland is associated with mid-life, a period where you're questioning yourself and having conflicts of interest.

#

I also think the krill are a byproduct of the darkstone industry and could have been considered threats that attacked both sides.

tepid veldt
#

there to cause problems on purpose

uncut pond
#

Worth mentioning that spears are coming from both sides, from outside the temple and from it as well, as the spear that hit Seed seems to have come from the temple, despite earlier in the memory the spears are coming from the other side

#

So looking at the shields it was definitely an ancestor vs ancestor war

There could definitely be a third party of ancestors focused on tending the wounded from both sides that get ignored.

round parrot

uncut pond

I believe one side, the one coming from the temple, was trying to defend the entrance to the Vault of Knowledge, while the other side was trying to access it

round parrot
#

But why do the ancestors want to access Vault? s_think

uncut pond
#

Maybe ancestors thought that the Vault was a place safe from the darkness, a bunker/shelter, but only scholars were allowed inside by the time darkness began taking over

#

As for krills, I'm not sure. Maybe at the beginning a faction of the ancestors tried using them as weapons, but it eventually backfired and they went crazy with their hunger

This would be a parallel to one of TGC's previous games, Journey, where War Machines were created during a war for the resources of the land, and these Machines were a kind of corrupted/mechanized mantas(?) which were programmed to steal the life of cloth creatures (Journey's equivalent of light creatures) but turns out that since the ancients were also made of cloth the Machines started attacking them all, leading to their extinction

I don't think that way because in the memory it seems like the people who throw spear at them actually keeping them from going outside of the area
Because look at the picture bellow the spear model looks like elder wasteland spear (but more small)
Maybe its the opposite
Maybe just maybe the vault of knowledge is the one who spread the darkness, i mean we can see in one of the abyss mural that the people from vault of knowledge have relation with the king krill, it maybe was just a regular manta whale but then it got experiment on, and it mutated to the form we see now, maybe vault of knowledge people is experiment on the darkness and it got out of control that the people inside got slowly infected with it the people who survive is running away from that place and as we know wasteland have pipe and stuff with it, it also seem like it connected to the vault (once again maybe for experiment or stuff also to search for the cure of the epidemic that happened to the kingdom) maybe, MAYBE THE VAULT OF KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONE WHO STARTED THE DARKNESS BECAUSE THE FORMER SKY KING ALSO THE ONE WHO STARTED THE RESEARCH ON THE DARKNESS TO MAKE IT TO LIGHT POWER buuuut it just my theory don't take it seriously

I find it interesting darkness tends to be associated with water, see how krills come out of dark water and crabs hang out near it when it's there.

That and concept art had clear water be holy (see its presence in Orbit and how a majority of light creatures are aquatic) so maybe desecrating it with darkness corrupts the creatures within, hence the krill.

Like I think the desecration of clear, lively water is so important due to the symbolism of darkness pollution rendering everything immobile and sterile...

latent loom
#

so the two shield symbols in the wasteland imply two factions. in the memory when Seed is tending to the first wounded (I’m so sorry I forgot to get a picture) the guard stationed at the medical tent has the sun symbol on his shield.

if there was a war over dark stone production (this theory has been thrown into the ring by several ppl), then perhaps the diamond symbol stands for the faction protecting the darkstone production, and the sun, or “light”, stands for the faction protecting the light creatures

so in that case the soldiers we see belong to the faction protecting the light creatures, hence why Seed was wounded by an arrow from those defending the Vault?

sharing what i understood in the 4th quest

basically the timeline for seed of hope seemed to be the kingdom nearing its end and seed of hope looked like a field medic. Seed of hoped saved the first soldier and brought them to safely while being chased by the enemies from the spears being thrown at them. Then some time later they went out and found another injured soldier and tried to take them back to safety. but they got ambushed by the enemy and took an arrow on their back. it seemed like the soldier they were carrying fully died and since there was enemies seed of hope tried to crawl for cover. later one krills seemed to come around the area and the 2 soldiers back at their little camp went out to search for them when they didn't come back. they killed the smaller krills and and found seed of hope. then a bigger krill spotted them and they tried to run to safety. one soldier threw their sword at the krill's eye to buy themselves time and took cover. after the krill passed they went back to their camp and back to safety.

I don't believe the darkness coming out of the vault.
After all, Eden is right behind it.
For me it's more like the Darkness came from Eden, across the vault right into Wasteland. Of course, this way it looks like the vault is the source, but since we're dealing with flying creatures, they can also just glide over walls. That's why you throw weapons in the direction of them and to the vault.

rigid mural
#

Well. That sure was a quest. Loved the part where our character gets stabbed.

Yeah, from what I see it seems krills are huge threats but not affiliated to any side, they look more like scavengers looking for any light that strays too close or is too slow; it's interesting that everyone is in a hurry to pick bodies up and shelter them under a tarp; like us, ancestors could evade krills by staying out of their line of sight it seems, so no heat vision for krills (red spotlight in that quest and in the Sneaky Survivor memories could be just to make us flinch and do a double take).

if we are meant to free the spirit souls after completing their memories, why do they come back as both regular spirits, or in the case of seasonal ones, as traveling spirits?

# spiral compass hi there, fellow Sky children! wanted to ask something lorewise that has really ...

we free the spirits, they go to Elder temples to ascend to the Light, and we can meet them in Orbit. though they may not have to stay in Orbit if they don't want to – travelling spirits, as you mentioned, or sometimes for Days of Events, or the lightseekers at sapling quests. they seem to have the ability to leave the Light for a period of time to do whatever business down in the world.

for most of them, the spirits seem to return for the sake of the skykids in the world below – Granny serves dinner, guides for Days of Events seem to be teaching skykids holidays. some dismiss travelling spirits as a game mechanic, but I see them as an extension of spirits returning to check up on the skykids or, as a thank you for saving them, to give gifts of gratitude. what the lightseekers are doing with the saplings are up to debate but one thought is that they are cultivating the trees and showing skykids how to care for them.

Idk you, but Last Quest at first gave away the vibe of a civil war (people vs people) but on second run I think it might be more about a resistance against the krills.

If we consider the weapons we see both spears and swords used from this side of the story, which in some moments of the Two Shields Theory , was a meaningful element, either the Sun Shields or the Diamond Shields might have used just the sword or the spears. So if this weapon+shield was true, it would mean that the Seed of Hope is not a swords/spears.

If this were true it could be that the Ancestors fought the krills with everything they got, using baricades to prevent krills charging them on the ground (yay , I speculated this could be possible long ago), even throwing swords if they had to.

But of course the favorite weapons against krills was arrows and spears (to keep the fight to long-distance range).
Which implies that many of this "artillery" either didn't centered the target or go easily repelled by bigger krills. Thus sadly made the war worse, because either platoons of soldiers or random rescuers like the protagonist were unwanted victim of this kind of "defences". Even just a single sword thrown in midair could be a leathal wound for another passing-by ancestor.

Sadly in any war, there are victims of either cross-fire or of miscalculation 😔😟

My interpretation is to help defend against krills. If they charged ancestors as they charge us, from midair towards the grounds, it could be a way of trying to hold a line/a position and let krills get impaled by themselves. Who hide behind those barricade could easily repell using swords or spears IMHO

That or it was eithet just a simple 3D object easy to realized and easy to recognize. If the devs modelled something way more complex it could have been trickier to figure out for us what a contraption was meant for

These are the mostly agreed upon terms:

Darkstone — raw material mined from the ground, seen as the blue chunks in the Treasure Reef mine.
Power Diamonds — the octadahedrons that given light act as batteries/power sources, which darkstone is refined into.
Darkstone Technology — any technology or mechanisms that uses power diamonds to function, like the Vault elevator or most multiplayer doors.
Corrupted Darkstone — red crystals that actively suck out light. Includes red shards.

It was a stylisic choice. So after we woke up from Dusk cutscene, before we noticed the 3 krills, the tombstone was suddenly broken, only the half part visible, with the top part disappeared.

You are free to have your idea/theory, but you can't change my mind about Elder fell in battle in order to protect and let as many refugees as possible before the gate was sealed

The crystal mined in Abyss is the resources, but in my opinion it's not the source/cause of corruption.

That being said, the leading and more agreed theory is that such crystals is the material for power diamonds which many call Darkstones (even if it could be misleading to call with just that name any kind, material/refined diamond/shards all alike)

an interesting pov for us in Lorechat
Alright, bet. let's go! aaaahhEyes

to my eye that blue looked lighter. i'm also used to a lot of eastern media look at warm colors as good and blue colors as evil (but also insert here the paragraph i could write about how good/evil are very western concepts anyways) death isn't "evil" but it's on that side of natural forces so it makes sense for a spirit to be blue but still associated with the darkness. i assumed the darkness was what killed everyone anyways and that's how we meet them but the more we befriend the spirits they change to warmer colors

boreal nebula
#

I think that if we didn't have blue light/shades in Eden, devs should have resorted to white, creating a B&W effect... Blue gave a colder effect, but I don't see it in a bad way, it's just the dimmest light we can get ?excluding the pale white/grey in the void with the Shiny Boy in PNR)

native shoal

I think I see those red crystals more like shrinking when we get near them, and zapping us away as defensive mechanism.

Sortof like they arein pain agony and in denial of help, if we get top close they get nervous till they push us away

steady dagger
#

there's a lot of eastern influence in the design of the game, so that's why i am eyeballing the shades of warm/cool color contrasts like I am. I also can't help but look at it like that because i am hardcore into destiny lore and so i'm also low key looking at it through that lens, at least using the same knowledge of influences that I have learned over the years while playing Destiny. It still fits pretty well from what I can see. Sky's game cycle is a samsara and I get some strong indications that the warm/cool colors are very deliberate. Nature also seems to have more warm colors, while technology both with the crystals and the tone is cool in color. Even from Isle to Vault the shades go from warm to cool.

I would like to share an interpretation of the King’s actions that my friend and I came up with on our way to Eden when we saw the mural.

frigid tinsel
# steady dagger what happened to the world of sky? why is the darkness there in the first place?...

darkstone is a raw mineral that is mined from the earth. when given light, it can hold a charge and be used to power stuff. it's more efficient form, power diamonds, were effectively batteries for the ancestors' darkstone technology such as door mechanisms, flying boats, electrical instruments, etc. we are not sure how power diamonds were made, but we know that it required light.

perhaps production was slow at first. we know some ancestors were professional light catchers or perhaps even the lightseekers, finding or gathering stray light, possibly using some of that to make power diamonds. however, demand for darkstone technology increased and the manufacturing process had to become faster and more efficient.

solution: light creatures. butterflies were caught in jars, mantas were hunted and trapped, and other creatures met their end in refineries for their light to be made into power diamonds. possibly many species of light creatures went extinct and the ones who survived were greatly reduced in number. power diamond manufacturing produced darkness pollution. this offset the balance of light & dark in the world, though we do not know the extent of it during the ancestors era.

then the ancestors decided to create the big Eden diamond. we don't know why – was it supposed to be a grand power source, a monument to their dominance over nature & light, an artificial deity replacing Megabird? unclear. we know it was revered and that Chosen One was involved in its creation because of the new Eden mural.

unfortunately things went wrong. the Eden diamond corrupted somehow. by the final Shattering frozen memory, we know the Elders tried to intervene, however failed cos it blew up in their faces. theories differ whether the initial Eden calamity was followed by similar eruptions that Season of Shattering introduced or if there was one single eruption. but the Eden diamond began spewing out a deluge of darkness. eventually that killed all the ancestors.

#

I had edited these for clarity but yea

earnest briar
#

We thought that the King saw the way the process of making power diamons harmed the world and decided to try and fix their mistakes by making the Eden Diamond to harness the natural wellspring of Light flowing from Eden and have an energy source that wouldn’t require trapping Light Creatures and harvesting their Light. My friend thought, ‘The King loved the Mantas.’ But something went wrong during the process. Maybe there was too much Light for the diamond to handle, and it burst, trapping the King. The King sent out a sort of alert to the Elders warning them about the Diamond using the Light they now had access to, and the Elders attempted to contain the Diamond’s power. They technically succeeded in containing most of the destruction to Eden, but it was a Pyrrhic victory as the Elders were injured to the point where they could no longer hold a presence in the physical world, becoming trapped in small pocket dimensions in their temples where their energy was strongest.

frigid tinsel
#

“Pyrrhic victory,” damn that’s a nice phrase

earnest briar
#

Eventually we meet the Elders, and thanks to the combined efforts of many Sky Kids offering Light to the Elders, they can grow strong enough to ascend to Orbit and even begin making small changes to their respective realms, which is my headcanon for how Seasonal Areas appear during a Season. The Elders pull back the clouds/repair boats/create openings to reveal said areas to us so that we can go there and help those Spirits ascend to the Light.

What do you guys think ‘we connected the seven realms with the power of starlight’ means?

earnest briar

If Light Creatures also come from the stars, it could be taken in multiple ways. It could refer to Manta boats, boats powered by power diamonds which get their power from Light taken from Light Creatures, or even the Elders themselves who I’m pretty sure are fallen stars.

uncut pond
#

The Elders have been confirmed in an old stream to be the stars that fell iirc, tho it was pretty old and things might've changed since then

keen shore
#

Oooo I think the elders are the best choice! As they guide us to the next realm/open the doors for us :]
Darkstone boats as Enzan pointed out make a lot of sense too!

#

I would assume ancestors couldn’t normally just go from realm to realm on foot or on creatures like mantas due to clouds blocking their path, or natural formations like a ton of the temples being really high up above everything else
Darkstone boats may have helped to a more literal extent in that regard, or manta drawn boats

#

Darkstone being associated with connecting the realms would be really interesting here cause usually darkness is associated with isolating you

uncut pond
#

I mean, look at how the giant pipes from wasteland go from the refineries/factories to Eden, and how these same pipes are also present in Forest as well

Maybe the power of starlight refers to the light used to activate power diamonds and power the kingdoms

slate saffron
#

It could also refer to darkstone technology in general! That would make sense considering the line after is "and our kingdom shattered"

earnest briar
#

I love that idea because it adds depth to the story. Like yes the darkstone is bad but it’s used to do amazing and wonderful things and can be used for good.

keen shore
#

YEAH it provides a reason for why people would support darkstone in general, rather than just not caring about its side effects!
So far this is mostly personal headcanon or very very loose theory but I also think darkstone become super valuable right before the disaster when everything was going dark, cause they were a convenient and portable source of light. Hence why the abyss crew was gathering them

uncut pond

I don't think it's the stone itself that's bad but rather the impact and byproduct of its uncontrolled mass-production and the ways it's power was abused (as evidenced by the giant Eden Diamond)

On another note I wonder if the light of the first ancestors to fall would have dimmed overtime &/or over the generations as being stranded away from the stars began to take it's toll. Would those first ancestors have panicked at the loss of this light, being unable to reverse it, or would they have felt apathy at the whole ordeal, given how they believed they would one day return?

Also, if their light faded, are the elders considered as such because they fell later than the other ancestors and thus still retained much of their initial light (which could later be amplified by darkstone technology)?

Like I theorized maybe a large part of the ancestors fighting got tired and started a mutiny. (Basically a rebellion that happens against soldiers in an army), heavy leaning that they don’t want to fight the dark creatures anymore and want to be free. And as a result the war became a civil war

Upside and downside of ambiguous lore, I brought this up because maybe the rebels and non rebels were fighting and krill got involved, non rebels fell back because they knew krill can be very dangerous and opted to launching spears at the krills and rebels. (Intentional or not) Maybe seed of hope was apart of the possible mutiny (or not) and was trying to save the other soldiers and got caught in the crossfire.

the next unique stuff is when you get to prairie. Everything else I recognized as stuff that had been here before this update.
So when you enter prairie social space, you get a cutscene that zooms in on Eden and the stretch of Prairie ahead of you and it tells you some things I’ll copy paste in a second, but unfortunately this happened as well and made me laugh really hard

And that very interesting intro text is…

Across the seven realms, other Elders wait to be awakened.
Restore them all, Child, and fulfill your destiny.

After you get hit over the head with that crushing expectation because apparently ancestors see any skykid and can’t resist making them the main character, you chat with Candlemaker for a bit, who shows you what buying cosmetics and outfit shrines are.

“This spirit has a memory to share! Greet them to receive it.”

[I can only assume the memory is their hair cause they don’t give us anything else.]

“This spirit shared their look with you! Try it on at the outfit shrine.
Try on the looks you’ve learned at the Outfit Shrine!”

[note the usage of the word learned here, which I think is very interesting]

And finally, as you begin to fly through the cloud tunnel to the butterfly fields

“Fly through the clouds to find the next temple and save more spirits.”

I've shared an idea here before that One was the legit Storm Elder themselves, but at the same time they were also a child

My idea was that Isle and Eden represent the exact same thing but from opposite perspectives
Both represent the fall of the old society and the coming of a new generation that will rebuild and continue the cycle of civilization
In Isle we're a newborn being guided by an oldperson Elder,
and thus it makes sense that in Eden, where we're literally at the end of society and our lives, the Elder would be a child that represents the new generation like we once were

The Elders (plus the king & prince) have names based off Hebrew letters from concept development that are no longer canon, though the fandom sometimes refers to them as such:
Isle – Daleth (ד)
Prairie – Ayin (ע)
Forest – Teth (ט)
Valley – Samekh (ס) (they share a name, though the fandom refers to SkyElderValley1 as Sah and SkyElderValley2 as Mekh)
Wasteland – Tsadi (צ)
Vault – Lamed (ל)
Prince – Alef (א)
King – Resh (ר)

Though it seems the devs refer to the Elders by the times of day their realms represent:
Isle – Dawn
Prairie – Day
Forest – Rain
Valley – Sunset
Wasteland – Dusk
Vault – Night
Eden – Storm

Okay, WARNING I'M COMFORTABLE WITH DARK THEMES and you may find this dark.

So the symbol that holds our gadgets and instruments, a circle with rays and a dot in the middle, has also been referred to as the symbol for 'sky child' in general across various glyphs through the world. The forgotten ark, when done, also shows these glyphs being collected and turned into goods for trade, like spells and fireworks, or 'magic.'

Bookmark that, and in the cave of prophecy, we see a sky child completing all the quests and returning with the 4 elements from the trials, amidst fallen natives who didn't succeed in the trials. Adult natives took these elements from the skykid, mastering 1 and teaching it, but while the world progressed the glyphs only referred to the skykid as something of a hero or figure of worship, not of actual power despite having been the source of it.

There's also a video on YouTube from Shard event meditation that shows 4 capeless skykids holding swords facing darkened skykids with red eyes.

Dark: I feel like the skykids, while sent down to do good, got taken advantage of by natives (adults, teens, no kids though). That, or the adult population decided it was worth it to sacrifice/utilize new skykids for power. We see them harvesting light in prarie, light that has yet to land, and our kid doesn't form a body until it hits the ground. The skykid symbol is also the symbol we use for 'tools,' or 'devices,' instruments and items. What if they don't have kid spirits because they've been collecting them and using them before they were 'born,' and the pnr showed a last desperate effort to get more power in the war by exposing skykids allowed to form to a syphon machine, the eye? In other words, we're saving our sacrificed kin, not the spirits we've been seeing.

clever socket
#

Also, all the elders always seem entitled to just take a skykid's light. Elder cutscenes, spoilers if you haven't upended Eden gate yet https://youtu.be/AgV_q8xk54E ) Only the last one, in the vault of knowledge, seems hesitant, even ashamed. They still use it, but it's like they know what their people did, and they don't know how to fix it and it's too late already, even giving the power back doesn't fix anything. Perhaps Eden was an elder who didn't mind sacrificing formed sky children, weaponizing them while the treasure cove and 4th aurora spirit show others trying to harness krill instead. It's really got me thinking.

YouTube is amazing... 😉 All the games, including Sky, follow the Hero's Journey format, which is reminiscent of growing up and life. There's newborn phase with a lot of room to grow but nothing really established yet (Sky's dawn), the beauty and wonder of childhood (sky's prarie), the dark and confusing or dangerous if not careful maze of teen years (sky's forest), early adulthood where you can take on the world (Sky's valley), late adulthood and seeing the dark side of life and facing fears as qualities waste away (golden wastelands), and the elderly wisdom and comfort at the end (vault).

Flower and Journey also had these, in their own way. Flower showed a world dying to pollution. Journey showed you reliving the history of your people, how they sapped the planet and created machines (their krill) to destroy one another in order to dominate. They're both stories of human folly, and warnings.

So skykids are not the heroes, and there are no villians either?
Just everyone trying to live out their best lives.

Isn't there supposed to be a problem or something for the story to make sense?
Like with lion king, the first film was like the hero's journey. But the second one with Kovu and Kiara is not like that, but in the end the bad guys got the join the good guys.

I have a question about the Eye of Eden has the Eye of Eden always been dangerous and destructive or was it not like this before?

clever socket
# sharp lichen Interesting that Sky doesn’t exactly follow the Hero’s Journey, but subverts it!

Nearly every great epic and story follow the hero's journey. It's not something that is 'conquered,' or 'evolved beyond,' due to using socially divisive terms like 'feminine representation' and 'good vs. evil binary.' Just because humanity had evolved since the days when most epics using the Hero's Journey lacked these qualities, that doesn't mean that they're part of the format - they're not.

Your images are literally word fluff added to one side. The Hero's Journey is going on an adventure (game), meeting at least 1 mentor or helper (elders, experienced players), facing challenges, the revelation (abyss, death, rebirth), change in the character (our feelings completing the game), and return (reborn). Sky does this. Journey and, to an extent, Flower did this.

Anything added beyond that, like mentioning gender, good vs evil... being... online... XD These things don't matter with regard to story structure. They're not part of the Hero's Journey format. They're nice to have, yes, keep them coming. But they're not revolutionary and 'breaking the mold of the Hero's Journey.' It's a simple format for story telling, anything extra added or socially respected is a matter of personal choice that is not a part of the format. It's appreciated, but that's like saying the majesty of a peanut butter sandwich is based on the plate it's on and the room it's served in.

But in the Hero’s Journey, it simply ends when you’re reborn. In Journey (the game), you’re done when you climb the mountain.

Sky is different. Once you’re first reborn, the game entirely says that the “journey has just begun.”

One other thing about the Hero’s Journey is that it focuses on, well, a singular hero. Sky is much different, since collaboration is essentially required to finish the game.

In Journey, you're alsi reborn at the end, and depending on how well you did you could discover herself wearing an advanced cape that let other players know you're experienced, or at least different from the initiate robes.

And yes, Sky does a loop. That loop is you growing as a player and character on the hero's journey story. Just because you read the same book twice and get more insight the second time through doesn't mean it doesn't follow the hero's journey format. Same with a game. Collaboration happens on the hero's journey as well. That's the mentor/helper. And, strictly speaking, you can play from start to finish 100% solo.

There doesn't need to be a 'bad guy,' either. There can be a dire need and no villains doing things 'just to be evil' (Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä, Breaking Bad), there can be the need to personally grow as a person (Goodwill Hunting, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away), all sorts of motives exist. That's why the hero's journey says 'revelation,' not triumph or victory, meaning you can still follow the format even if your character dies.

Most people's favorite or 'most moving' legend/book/tv show/movie follows this format. Mine growing up was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Pick yours, and answer these questions to yourself:
1: Is your character established in a place of comfort? (Home, work, somewhere expectable that doesn't make them panic)
2: Does something happen to call them out of that place/mindset?
3: Do they encounter challenges that they have to address in order to move on?
4: Do they grow and develop as a person/character in this time?
5: Is there a 'big event,' the climax of the story?
6: Does your character have the opportunity to return to their starting point, even though they've changed (not applicable for character death).

#

Like, Gandolf was a mentor, and Sam was a helper to Frodo, for example. With his strength and knowledge, Gandolf had a lot more control over how things panned out and how the story went compared to Sam.

#

They're both integral to the story, just to different degrees.

I kinda agree with Baudshaw.
Whenever I got lost a player would help. When a door needed more players, sometimes other players would help, or just ignore us.
They game told me how to move, fly and find spirits, but it did not tell me where the season spirits are, what the seasons were about and the rest of the story veterans learned.

It is fun making friends that can help with the game. But am confused why the game makes other players help newbies like that.
Like what happens if there are no veterans?

sharp lichen
clever socket
# empty drift I kinda agree with Baudshaw. Whenever I got lost a player would help. When a doo...

These things are side missions, though. The main, raw story of Sky is to pass through each map section and go through the ending. Some people do this with minimal spirits and wls, some are loot goblins like me and shove their nose into every nook they can find before moving on. That's a difference in okay style, though. I'm just talking about the bare bones of the game, not the pretty fluffy bits, LOL.

Yeah, they can miss out on a lot. My first time through the story didn't include the sanctuary islands, let alone the entire game mechanic of swimming. I still, however, went on the Hero's Journey and 'played through' Sky. Did I find everything first go? Absolutely not. 🤣 That's why the real journey starts after you finish the drive to 'complete' the game to the end. There's more to find and do, and that's great, BUT, it's also all extra and not mandatory to reach the end.

That sounds like a vet problem honestly, most Sky vets are like that

This conversation has derailed a bit from lore, though! Mind moving to #cozy-sky-discussion?

It gives the impression a bit that you're being felt out for dedication in the game based on play time, and that you may not be worth bonding with if you're really new, due to vets experiencing friends leaving

# untold notch incredulous?

I have double stars on cape, aiming to start the triple, and know the wl and most candle locations and run eden. It seemed to surprise some that I was only 2-3 weeks old when that started

ok no yeah that makes sense that is. a much faster start than most moths

i keep meeting shattering moths with capes i unlocked last week & it throws me off (not in a bad way)

listen, shattering gave us moths the opportunity to save up if we didn't like the cosmetics SkySneak

Learning the game alongside shattering has been an often traumatic experience... XD

i have jumped over many red crabs. only lost wl once in a red shard at grandma's place onthefloor

Btw you can still dodge crabs by doing a quick jump out of the way. Idk what you mean by “revoking” that mechanic.

You could never flip shard crabs. They’re not the same as regular crabs, that’s the point. Deep calling attracts them.
Also please do not ping me when you reply.

When a crab is going after me I just run to the side out of the collision path, they don’t change direction once they make the angry crab noise

( making this lore related somehow )
i have my hc that I've mentioned before here where moths from certain seasons have some skills different from others, only really works with abyss because swimming but still
shattering moths better at dodging real pMoth

Yeah, learned the hard way they can't be flipped and instead chase, LOL, was the point of the joke.

shattering moths are yet to see a guide doing the yay emote and i feel bad for them

What's the yay emote? 👀

when you retrieve seasonal quests and the guide shakes, if it was a spirit guide theyd be doing an emote

Someone suggests the “adults/spirits are using the (sky)kids for their power” thing every once in a while and I have to say the same thing I say every time this is brought it: this is very unlikely and thematically inappropriate for Sky.

Sky is about community, mutual cooperation, healing, and friendship. There being a secret ulterior plot of the very spirits we are saving really seek out to hurt us doesn’t make sense when everything in the game indicates that the spirits are grateful for skykids saving from them darkness, giving gifts in the form of cosmetics. Skykids can also receive blessings from Elders, again as thanks for saving their people or a sign of friendship. There is nothing in the game to show that the ancestors and Elders mean skykids harm.

The murals of the skychild you’re probably referring to, the ones in the Cave of Prophecies I presume, depicts Chosen One completing the Trials, the only skykid during the ancestor era who likewise led the ancestors after their success. Chosen One isn’t us. Outside the Cave of Prophecies, those are general light symbols, though it’s still unclear what the mural depicts. Possibly light offerings to the Elders.

Also if your only other proof of this concept is a YouTube video you can’t link cos it’s fanmade or leaked content, then that’s not great evidence either.

Sky is about love and friendship and growth. Some ulterior plot where the skykids are the victims of adults abusing us does not fit the game.

Hey lore masters could I get some input on how to handle a sketch I've got going? I'm drawing the Elders in the shape of the Eden Gate and i'm going back and forth on if I include the Dawn Elder TGCBlueSparkles cause lore TGCBlueSparkles
