okay so there's two main ways i've seen people use to transcribe (if you’re transcribing something, just pick one of the two styles below and roll with it):

1. space things out -
   let's take sky studio as an example. on the left hand side of where the composer starts, it says 4/4. that's the time signature. notice how there are 16 spaces total per light gray/dark gray area, every 4 little "sections" separated by a dark line. if you wanted to place 4 quarter notes, you would place one note every 4 beats.

for this method, it's why people use 700 bpm when the real bpm is actually like 200 - because spacing it out like this just means that it will be slow (you can test out the bpm for yourself as well, to see what's slow/fast).

i often use this method. example here: #sky-music message

2. use speed changes in sky music/sky music nightly -
   let's take sky music (day version) as an example. you would just place each note next to each other, and set the bpm to exactly how it says on the music sheet. instead of spacing things out, you would use the speed changes on sky music. (the white is just a regular full note, green is half that time, blue a quarter of white, and pink an eighth of white).

there really isn’t any other way than practicing if the song you’re learning has a sheet, you can put it into a 3rd party app like Sky Music or Sky Studio and practice it there good luck!

you can try your luck with the Sky Music web-app’s “midi to sheet” converter, if you have a midi file of the song you want to learn. i haven’t tried or played around with it much myself, and i don’t really know how it works either, so i can’t help you much but i’m sure you could play around with it yourself

This is my attempt to transcribe Disturbeds cover of Sound of Silence for two instruments completely from memory. Still a work in progress, has some personal flourishes (because I can't resist ^^; ), and is prolly in the wrong key... But anyways, any feedback is greatly appreciated :P

To get the second instrument in sky music nightly, I first tapped the disc icon to the bottom left of the screen to change the view. From there, I was able to tap the hamburger menu (triple bar icon) in the bottom left to bring up the full menu. Tapping the gear, I was able to assign different instruments to the three layers now available to me. From there, to lay notes to each instrument was as simple as tapping Layer 1/2/3 to the bottom right of the screen.

however after playing double trills at speed for a while the inputs in my switch stop registering

does anyone know if this is just a git gud thing or a genuine problem

infact it doesnt even have to be at speed, ive been experimenting and it can happen when its slow too

What do you guys think of the piano changes? I came back to the game recently and tried playing, it felt so strange and different and half of the keys I pressed were not working. I found out you now have to click the center of the keys rather than just the darker outline displayed. They also spaced out the keys more, which wasn't a big deal until I realized you had to now only click the center of the keys. The spacing is to wide and I can no longer play my favorite songs (My hands are really small and I am on an iPad), so I am curious on how other people see this change. in my opinion, I liked the old keys better because my hand are small and they were easier to play, but I would like to know if other feel differently.

I don’t notice that you have to click the center. I can click the corner and it works just fine; my big gripe is that they still haven’t fixed the issue that makes it impossible to play if people are standing around you because you click a note and the program thinks you’re clicking the person behind it instead, which yeets you right out of the music menu.
I was a little sad when they took away the smallest key setting and replaced it with medium and large, but i’ve gotten used to the medium setting. Both the medium and the large sizes are just too close to the Close Menu button though, which is another problem we’ve all been having afaik. That would be fixed if they just put all the menus from the top right corner into a vertical orientation on the side of the screen instead of jammed into the corner across the top.

But then again, I’m on mobile. I’m surprised they haven’t fixed the ipad spacing issue yet since it was a HUGE complaint when they first released the update that broke it.

I've noticed that on Switch, the lag between key press and instrument sounds is either not there or is less noticable, but if i play on a phone or a tablet (i own an iphone and an ipad), it's so much worse :(

not to mention in addition to the "clicking on other players/chat" issue, I have the issues of:

• moving my camera while trying to play chords which isn't usually an issue but in this case it moves the camera Instead of playing multiple notes
• if playing a standing instrument, my avatar will skip around nonstop and i'll just end up far away from wherever I started playing lol.

For right now, Switch is my preferred device for music. It's just that the joycon drift will sometimes help me out and play extra notes 😂

Most people convert songs just by listening and mimicking the notes. There’s not any software that’ll do it for u. You could play the song on youtube on a computer and download a sky music practice app like Sky Studio for your phone. plunk out notes until it sounds the same as the melody, then work on chords

The default key in Sky Studio may not be the same as the key of the song, but you can switch keys. Just keep switching until it sounds right

I can't remember if we were able to move the camera WHILE playing before but I do know that we were able to move the camera + our player for standing instruments, and never remembered having any problems with it. In fact I liked being able to pan the camera around with the music screen still up, just not... While i'm playing.

It could have been that only the edges of the screen moved you, or that they locked both while you were tapping in the region of the keyboard, but with the new changes it's like... it doesn't matter where you tap because 1-2 fingers moves you/the camera regardless, or chords that are 4 or 4+ keys just play like.. 2-3 notes 😭

Yeah,,, you used to be able to move the camera while playing from the BOTTOM CORNER, and for standing instruments they made it so you could run around. Actually Long Long Ago you could run with sitting instruments too but we don’t talk about those dark days

How do you feel about being able to read messages while playing, underneath or at least near your keys? Personally I don't mind it because it helps me keep up with the conversation, and I can reply after I finish a song, but until they fix the issue of messages bringing up the chat log every time, i'd probably just prefer to have the messages go like the previous music update

@hasty jungle You can makes the keys stop delaying by lowering the graphics, that usually works for me. Maybe the reasom I have to click the center of the keys is because they are bigger and I never noticed it until now.

Maybe cause the phone is smaller it is easier to click the center, but everytime I click the edges it won't play, maybe it is iPad only.

Actually I was trying to play again and I noticed that it is more difficult to hit keys and have them respond on the mobile version, but it isn’t about the position of your fingers over the key? For example:

I am playing the same 5 notes (1:3, 2:1, 2:3, 2:5, 3:3) not moving any fingers, just lifting my hands up and down, and it only registers key 2:3 once every several clicks.

At the end of that vid i play the last section of a song that i’ve recently mastered. I played it perfectly, i know my fingers hit all the notes, and yet it’s missing several notes in chords because the game is just not registering them

For reference, here is what it’s supposed to look/sound like with all the keys:

Idk about other versions, but the phone version of game at the very least is much less sensitive to chords altogether now. If you’re pressing more than 4 keys at a time, good luck getting all of them to work

@hasty jungle yes I believe you aren’t hitting every key because your fingers might barely be missing the center. Whenever I spam one key it will always register, same for when I click many at once. The keys widening away from eachother also could be a reason for this. Our muscle memory remembers how to to play the keys, but since they changed so slightly we might be missing some because of muscles aren’t getting that the keys switched, but we still remember how to play the song of that makes sense. Overall I think since a majority of us are so used to the old keys that these new ones just won’t click.

Here’s the same bit on the 6+. So it looks like the iphone 6+ can handle chords, but the 12 cannot with this update.

Looks like the note skipping on mobile is only happening on iphone 12. Maybe on 11 too, tho we don’t have a tester for that

I'm SO disappointed how even in this volume we don't get the music of Isle of Eden opening credit scene with Aurora's voice and the music after ||Eden before we go to Orbit|| which is also Aurora's voice. We get the Launch version on Vol 1 but it's a different version and it's not in the game anymore

so i'm learning how to play instrument in sky anyone got any tips? I feel like my playing is super clunky and i'm struggling i guess the answer is just practice but yea

1. if you're on switch, try swapping the layout to see which one works best for you
   switch instrument toggle by wapol #screenshots-and-videos message

2. practice! start with learning smaller bits/chunks at a time, and slowly keep adding on to that and you'll learn songs in no time

3. slow the song down, if it's a video on YT or smthn. you can also just learn the song by playing slower at first.

4. if the song you want to learn has a sheet, load it onto sky music or sky studio, and practice there (most composing apps have different methods of teaching you songs, like showing you which notes come next and such)

ohhh i'm using sheet music and sight reading, i actually play piano but man this is so different since how everything is so much smaller lmao

also key layout do be kinda confusing, I guess i'll just keep at it and eventually i'll nail it via muscle memory

yeah that can be a bit difficult with the keypad layout for me it's just easier to do it by muscle memory, so i don't need to rely on sheet music in case i'm outside or smthn

that's fair! I usually end up practicing pieces to the point I can remember them mostly without sheet music

i'm lucky in the regards I have a decent musical ear so i can self correct in the absence of sheet music

although it's a bad habit to rely on lool

What I find helpful is to play the hard parts over and over but in sections backwards
Like so

I learned this method when learning a new language. Typically if u want to memorize a sentence, it helps to say the words over and over from the end, and adding one or two words on each time. For example say the sentence was "this song is lovely" you would repeat "is lovely" over and over until you are more fluent and quick. Then you can add "song is lovely" and repeat over and over. And finally "this song is lovely". Im not sure about the science behind it, but it works better for the brain when you want to memorize info in order
