I have some advice! It might not be the best tho Use both index fingers and thumbs when playing to get used to the format of the instruments in Sky (or just use thumbs). Practicing nursery rhymes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and If You're Happy And You Know It, Clap Your Hands is good too. They have a moderate speed which is easy and managable to play!

i would just practice as much as you can ! there isn't really a right way to play, you'll naturally get used to it (and although this isn't really necessary, you can also take a peek at/practice the common chords used in songs in the pins for what you might expect) most importantly, have fun ! music's not very fun if you end up practicing a lot of songs at once just to learn as much as you can (although that's a valid play style too - it’s really up to you), just take your time and have fun

that would depend on you! i and other people play/transcribe by ear, and others follow sheet music. if hearing notes is difficult for you, i would first start by following sheet music. you can also just compose/make up songs on your own!

Heya, I wanted to ask something:
When I try to play music in sky there's always a delay between when I hit the notes and when the notes actually get played that not only is annoying, but it also throws off my sense of rhythm entirely... I looked online and the only thing that I found was people suggesting to use lower the graphics, and while that helped a bit it didn't resolve the problem entirely
Is there a way to make this delay completely disappear?

i know its been hours since you posted this, but i know i struggled with the same problem, and found that my headphones cause lag between input and audio. now i play without them and use my phones speaker instead. other tips i have: try to stand in a place and angle your camera so that your framerate is better (i use default graphics mode usually too), and restarting does help me sometimes too. i hope this helps!

Some areas seem to have the same musical key. Playing an in-game music sheet can also force an area to a specific key, regardless of which area it is (a useful trick for practicing)

something i also noticed is that if you have your bgm volume turned off, then go to a new area using home shrine, it will still be in the key of c and won't change. maybe try turning bgm on, then try playing your instrument and turn it off once it's in the key

Wanted to share how i learn songs! You can use this way to practice also, or to write music so you will not forgot that later, its comfortable. I recommend use 5 colors max and 4 minimum so it will be easy to find notes.
Cover is by sion'sKY on youtube! I just stopped everytime they pressed on notes and wrote them down, but its not so hard as it may sound!

Sky has a few drums, but most of them are hand drums. The forest drum is a bongo and the Prophecy drum sounds similar but with a deeper pitch and some cymbal sounds. There’s also the handpan from Sanctuary, which sounds metallic. If you want a new instrument, I would put the idea in #wishlist-and-ideas-archived

First try to learn to play it slowly. Keep timing between notes equal. And repeat over and over until you would feel comfortable to play it. After that increase speed little bit. When you would feel comfortable with increased speed, increase it again

A very good advise from ℬ𝓁𝒾𝓍#5862 When you using three fingers of each hand (six in total) you can put each finger over required notes. This way you would not need to move whole hand around to reach notes. Your fingers would be already over needed notes. It helps you to play faster and much easier. Since layout of notes in Sky is small, so it’s hard to place all six fingers over layout, you can try to place five fingers over required notes and and change only one of them to play sixth note (or 4 on 2, for example)

yeah turns out practicing it was easier when i included a part before that bit and not just continuosuly hitting those 6 notes, cus i hit them for so long it sounded wrong no matter how ok it was, putting it together with the rest of the song made it sound ok even if i dont got it down yet, thank you for the advice ill try it, cant use more than two fingers for it tho my screen is small and the notes are so close together lol

Yeah. It’s true. My screen is small, too) It’s quite problematic. But your fingers might not be completely perfectly over notes. They just need to be close to notes you want to play. Like they are ready to push them in any moment. It’s more comfortable then one or two fingers method. But some times it’s better to play with two fingers. If you don’t know yet there’re knob in game with “+” which increases layout of notes

i'm going to publish Sky Music Nightly, a refined, completely offline, version of sky music.

It was meant as a way to address the issues that sky music had, especially code wise, this app is completely rewritten from scratch, there are no accounts, i'm using github pages (like the skymusic.github.io) so load time and uptime should be better.

This is still a sort of "beta" so if you find any issues, report them to me.

I see. Harmony can be a little tricky sometimes, really it all depends on whether you wanna play a chord or have some fancy bassline.

True, true. With harmonies, I try first sixths (which are super easy to play in sky- just play two notes on top of each other) and then thirds, and combine them or omit them when it sounds good

To play notes that are a sixth apart easily, stack one finger on top of the other, and play :) if I want to get fancy, I use arpeggios

I used those techniques while playing along with the sheet, but it's way easier when you can do it slowly

This is all improvised, and the best combinations are used over and over. Kinda like a composer who never stops editing his song haha even when it’s printed already

On sky music nightly you can have as high as 1000 BPM but you can add tempo changers for moments of up to 8000 BPM

As someone who often studies from YouTube videos, I like to find videos that real time show the in-game play with the 3*5 grid. The individual music stamps (?) are great for studying without audio, kinda like sheet music... But real time, when watching someone else play, I want to observe their technique, and maybe on my own time consult the sheet music.

Personally, I find the stamps a little distracting/overwhelming with the space they take up compared to the in-game footage. I'd recommend expanding the footage to take more space, and relocate the stamps to run along the top or bottom border. That way, you still have them for reference while allowing observers like myself to more comfortably watch and learn.

That's just my take though - hope it helps ^^;

It often doesn’t register my clicks, making it difficult or downright impossible to play something like Flower Dance without messing up. Often it’ll only register 2 or 3 keys when I’m playing a chord of 4 or 5, or if I’m moving quickly it won’t register a click half the time

That’s because if you’re converting a midi file for a regular song into a more Sky-friendly format, it doesn’t usually go smoothly. It’s better to do those things by hand with a composing tool.

Though if a song has accidentals, it’s never gonna turn out right. It’s quite literally impossible to play accidentals due to the way the keyboard is laid out, so you have to make do with what you’ve got.

Auto-play apps are not permitted here and are against TOS in the game. Demonstrating automated playback in-game is corrosive to the music community as well because it sets unrealistic and unhealthy standards of play.

Hey everyone! I'm new to music and all, and I have been struggling with so many problems regarding making sheets.

So, there's a subreddit called Sky Music Studio, where there's a person who makes music and uploads them as posts on that sub. The problem is that they upload them with some kind of Code (I'm not sure what they are called in this state, perhaps they are called Scripts?) When I managed to copy the scripts, I didn't know where to go next.

How do I make music sheets when I already have the script for it? It's so confusing ughh
