That can happen, and that’s okay too. This isn’t the only application form TGC will post; they mentioned that they’re planning to have more frequent rotations in beta testers.

If anyone doesn’t get a chance to test the upcoming patch, they’ll have a chance again to apply for or test the next, depending on when TGC sends out the application again.

It won’t be like before (waiting years for invites) it seems!

We do know that beta channels will be private for the new beta. The only thing we don't know is if the existing channels get privated for new beta or if there will be entirely new beta channels, in which case the existing ones aren't needed anymore and will be archived

Given that the beta testers will be under an NDA regarding the beta content, there's no way TGC will keep these channels open when the closed beta starts. They'll either be made private, or be archived.
Plus, once the signup period ended, there is no reason for this chat to exist anymore, publically.

NDAs will be required of all testers. NDAs are legal agreements that protect certain types of information from being shared publicly. For the beta program, this means that no beta footage or content can be recorded or shared by testers outside of private beta channels on Discord designated by TGC.

I don't think we were given a timeline, so just keep an eye on your email from anywhere from after the application closes to when the new closed beta starts.

My personal opinion? I think right after the application closes is too soon to be notified, I'm sure the devs will need some time to go through applicants for a few days. Maybe middle of next week at the earliest is when we will start seeing emails?

Mods and staff have said that they will post in #beta-announcements when TGC’s invitation emails to accepted applicants have gone out. So, if that update post goes up, check your email (and spam folder). If there’s no email, you weren’t invited to participate in the first round of beta testing. However, you may be invited in the future. They’ll keep beta applications for 6 months.

About the platforms Beta is run on:

• Beta testing is done on IOS, Android, Huawei and PC. Beta testing is currently not available on Console
• The first invite wave for Beta will be IOS only, but you can still apply now to be in the running for future waves if you're not on IOS.

In order to fill the application form, you'll need your Discord UID and your Live Sky ID.

• Your discord UID can be found on your profile. You may need to activate Developer mode to see it. This is not your Discord username
• Your Sky ID can be found by logging into Sky (the live version, not beta), tapping settings, then Account, then Account Info. You'll need to enter the Sky ID exactly as you see it, including the hyphens

Once you submit your application, Wait And Find Out if you've been accepted into the program. You'll get contacted if you do, but even if you're not accepted, your application will remain on TGC's radar for a while so you might get accepted later!

If you're accepted, you'll need to sign an NDA, which means you'll be agreeing not to disclose (share) any information about what you see on Beta. This is a serious legal agreement, and you will face penalties if you break it after agreeing

This round, unlikely, due to the lack of an iOS device. Future rounds... Depends on what they check for, I'd say. My feedback sample was pretty weak since I had a hard time remembering something, but if they check for bug reports etc I'd say I have a decent chance.

They just closed the application yesterday, it’s the weekend right now, and they apparently have A LOT of applications to review. So, give it some time. There will be an announcement made in #beta-announcements when they’ve sent out invitations for this first cycle of closed beta testers. When the announcement is made, check your email. You can probably just do a search for “beta” in your email once the announcement is made. I bet if you receive an email, it’ll be easy to find.

It'll be interesting to see what they decide on: more frequent rotations means that more people get to have a go quicker, and probably helps with the whole "don't get too attached to your account progress/beta isn't a replacement for live" angle of things. But on the other hand, taking applications and sifting through them as part of rotations is extra administrative work for the staff, so that's probably one of the things they have to weigh in the balance of things.

Almost 3 weeks has passed and it surprise me that still many beta players don't know what happened on 20th march to their beta account.

They do something similar to the "Oreo rules" thing with the in-game candle surveys on Live as well: there's usually a question which will say something along the lines of "Select Disagree for this question", which is probably being used to filter whether you're actually reading the survey and giving proper responses (i.e. an assessment of whether the survey you're submitting can be considered genuine/valid responses). At the very least for the beta applications, it'll give some indication of how much attention people were paying when submitting their entries.

It was called camping mini-event in the patchnotes, I think, and yes was a big shared space shrine, a big tent and some spirits in the 8 player puzzle area. There were some Assembly spirits taking you to there and you could create a shared space with some items that weren't normally available. Also, I think the area for the shared space was a little bigger than normal. I think they'd also give you prompts for the shared spaces, but I might remember wrongly.

I think they'll go to at least some of them manually (though I could imagine ruling out no-go answers such as people saying they're unwilling to sign an NDA automatically, or people who've been perma-banned from the discord or from Sky, or such stuff). And I'm pretty sure at least some evaluation - the moment when the sample feedback comes into play - will need to be done manually, since I'm pretty sure they'll have criteria they're looking for with that one.

Sorry this is late but to answer your question about Testflight, in past beta testing, once you redeemed a code or link in Testflight, the blue Sky Beta app was available to be downloaded from the Testflight app, the same as how live Sky can be downloaded from the App Store. Updates appeared on Testflight too

As for what else you may need, possibly free storage on your device for downloading the beta app/updates to it and for taking videos of bugs/things for feedback.
But we don’t know yet how the new beta will work and if it will be the same

I used to be in beta until after Aurora when I quit as it’s become overwhelming to play both versions of the game. I applied to the new beta, hoping the beta mechanisms will be different. I hope beta players won’t start as moths as that would make beta players bug reporters for the full (there already is a live bug channel for reporting issues for existing content). I would like to think beta should be about testing pre-launch new features and content, and not the whole game. As such I am hopeful all testers who get it in, will start with a preset world stage and cosmetics enabled so beta players can really focus on new content.

The emails will go out when the krill decide to release them. The issue is, krill don’t know how to read or how to use a computer. It’s a conundrum that the Elders are working hard at fixing. Some of the channels in the server have a slowmode, a timer that requires people to wait a certain amount of time before they can make another post.

Mods or TGC staff might set a slowmode either when a channel is busy (like #general-sky-discussion), or when there’s not a lot to discuss, which is to prevent the channel from going off topic.

If you only have an Android device you most likely will not be included in this batch as it’s only for iOS at the moment. It wouldn’t make sense to give an email to someone who’s unable to test/access beta until beta is finally set up for Android/PC testers.

One idea which comes to mind is that anyone who says they've received an offer to join the beta program is more likely to be contacted by people offering something in exchange for information, screenshots or access to the beta (all of which would likely breach the NDA). If that's a concern, then I wouldn't be surprised if the email and/or the NDA has a condition where disclosing that you've been selected for beta testing may disqualify you from the program. Not saying this is actually what's happening, but it seems like a logical scenario to me, and also why I was suggesting that anyone who got the email should read it carefully to confirm what they can and can't discuss publicly.

The fact that one of the requirements to apply is giving your discord uid makes me think that they could manually have them added to a private channel.

that depends on how many testers there are, if theres say, 50-100 (per wave of testers) and they dont want a role saying "im in beta" individually adding people to channels is the smartest way to do so (and like star said, we had to give discord IDs and you could easily use a bot to add all of those IDs to a private channel and if they do go the automated route then that defeats the pros of using a role to mass add people to the channels)

or a separate server works but i think they dont want to do that? im not sure if mods have touched on that topic tho

well, yeah, we have no clue how many got accepted. they haven't disclosed how they'll approach making the channels yet so I'm just assuming for now that they'll likely do it the way most other large servers do with private channels

additionally, recording account IDs is mainly for keeping track of accounts even when they change usernames. Not saying that adding each account to a server via ID manually is a bad approach, but there are other reasons why someone would want to record IDs

Since they plan to cycle testers, they’ll need to periodically remove people’s access to beta discord channels. If they permit access to channels, either through a role or by adding members, it’s a bit cleaner than creating a separate discord server, having to kick many members out of that server whenever they’ve finished their round, and then allowing them to rejoin the server at some point in the future.

Android is not being included in this round of testing, it's not secure enough yet for them to feel comfortable having the content being tested on Android or PC without leaks getting out.

We don't have any information on how long a round is, how often testers will be cycled, or when Android/PC are going to be added so we just need to be patient and wait for more information, which they will release when they are ready.
