Sorta! Sky is like an amalgamation of all the games together. It’s got the base mechanics and storyline of Sky, scenery of flower, etc. etc.! In my opinion Journey is the most similar to sky out of them all

Yeah TGC took a lot of elements from Journey while making Sky. Like almost the same mechanics and gameplay in both games. But the themes are vastly different. Journey is an emotional experience. And Sky is a social experience.

Hello everyone! Today is my first time ever playing Journey and I seem to have experienced a problem where one of the big carpets on 2nd level won't activate after I light it up fully. After going through whole area and probably finding everything I went to check it on one video and it ended up that the same carpet I wasn't able to activate was indeed supposed to create a bridge. Is there anybody else who has experienced the same problem recently or is it just me?

I tried walking on it after restarting (originally honked), not in the same run, so it wasn't due to that

After looking at gameplay for journey, is sky just the social version of it? A lot of the mechanics are similar and i wanna known if it’s a style thing or an asset-type thing.

Sky is a sort mixture of their past games. Some animations or models and themes may feel a bit similar, and that's what I love about Sky as a Journey fan. It's made by the same people after all ^^
But Sky does feel a bit different from Journey nonetheless.
Sky focuses on colors and socializing, while Journey focuses on the tranquility and the feeling of loneliness and wonder.

No. Journey's Multiplayer system is anonymous. You can't friend someone in there and you can't play with a specific player like that. Journey will put you with a different player on its own and you can play with only ONE other player and yes the only way to community in Journey is through honking. But there is kinda a way to play with someone. If you and the other person you want to play with enter the same area at the same time, there is a chance that the game will put you two together.

In my opinion, Journey was more about finding another to share the experience with and cutting through the loneliness. This is something Sky has tried to replicate, but was unable to truly capture. Now, do not get me wrong Sky is breathtaking. It's just I have never had someone ignore me in Journey. There was something about the 2 person pair aspect that adds to the atmosphere of the game. I also should mention that the glitches are breathtaking as well.

you don't see it anywhere in-game this just tells the game this is where it should take you back to when you beat the game before starting campaign 2

we totally skipped the tall water tower area, like didn’t light a single shrine. Sorry if this isn’t a good explanation but we hopped from platform and ledge getting all the secrets fine and making great time. i can try to explain the path more if it’s confusing

then also in the eden / snow storm areas, if you just hug the left wall you can skip the danger of guardians and be a bit faster I think

I should add

flOw's levels are written in basic xml format in such a way that you can easily make new levels or manipulate existing ones

and Cloud has a built-in sandbox/debug mode

although I do not immediately remember how to activate it, it makes playing the game after you exhaust its puzzles immensely more fun

I played flow for a bit and my arm got tired, lol.
I did not expect that while playing the game, though that is likely my style of zooming around like a maniac.

It is a very cool game and I can see how parts of it became part of TGC's style of games.
Flowy, graceful and open. Players are able to ascend and experience the game's little moments, or descend into darkness and yet have a similar experience.

@round frost I found it, while playing Cloud, if you press Backspace it enables sandbox mode

There you can press F1 to see what each button does

The Tab key also changes rendering modes, both in sandbox mode and out

actually wait we can share custom levels on Cloud now

you immediately get all of these options, one of which is to save/load levels

the game unfortunately doesn't seem to know how to deal with losing focus, so once you're playing you kinda have to avoid alt-tabbing or it locks the cursor

but otherwise of that this is a fairly robust level editor

so you can set up things and see how the game works without needing to fiddle with the built in levels

the most frustrating thing I've found is that cloud density is not actually a conserved quantity

each cloud particle has a float value between 0 and 5, and they get shorter as they mutually annihilate

but it's not a fair exchange, taller clouds always get the better deal

and the more clouds touch the more quickly they annihilate, leading to silly war-type strategies where you want to become pac-man consuming small things and getting flanked even slightly just erases your dots the same way

you can! its actually in the screenshot above, it’s somewhat hard to get though
you have to collect all of the sigils to unlock it, then at the chapter select a large scarf will be there for you to switch between red/white

and you can also play with others. but only 1 person, and its not cross-platform iirc

You get paired randomly too, so that really depends on your luck. I had a lonely journey or two, and some in which I apparently was around somebody (according to post-credits) but didn't notice them

you can make plans with someone to meet up in a specific place in the game and hope that you server merge
the highest possibility of seeing another person is in broken bridge (the first part)

It does exist, once you find all the glows that make you fly higher you can get it. Pairing with people is random so good luck with finding someone!

And someday I can and WILL make flOw-inspired robes
Considering that there is an artblog connected to an askblog that inspired me to play Journey, and the artblog had this really cool art of flOw-inspired robes, it's the least I can do as tribute

There’s 5 different creatures you can use as inspiration from the original game, and 6 if you count the credits. Each with their different mechanics, skills, and colors. Each cape could have different skill that provided a boost to the player, like becoming invisible to the guardians or having a sort of sprint when walking, because all of us know the pain of walking up a steep hill without any charge on your scarf

I didn't know I had some form of impact. I'm happy to hear people got inspired to play Journey because of me and Scarfy's shenanigans. 😭

And it's because of Scarfy's blog that I learned Journey is on Steam!
(Since I don't have a Playstation, being able to get Journey on my PC via Steam was how I was able to actually play for the first time)

I'd known of Journey for a while b/c of let'splays, and it was one of my early hyperfixations, so to get to play it for the first time was honestly an achievement for me
And to play Sky for the first time during Season of Dreams was really amazing
That feeling of being guided through Eden felt like going up the mountain for the first time
And the fact that some of the Dreams cosmetics were Journey-inspired (which is why I focused on Peeking Postman back then) was nice

And one of the first melodies I used a fan sheet to learn in Sky was Nascence

Omg yes Dreams had a lot of cosmetics that does feel very Journey-ish. I'm sad that I missed out on Sky but glad to have snagged peeking postman cosmetics!
Oh lord being a Journey player first before being a Sky player, my first reaction to seeing the mountain in Sky was ||"this thing's gonna kill me, isn't it?||

Well technically it does but Paradise is effectively what the ascent to Orbit is like but even more fun gameplay
Granted they had to cut a LOT from Light Awaits to get Sky as it is now to work on phones
(They could make Light Awaits on PC if they wanted though, just sayin')

Apotheosis has a very triumphant feel, and rightfully so, as you reached the mountain, and I Was Born For This has a feel of both triumph and reflection, continuing from the silence at the end of Apotheosis, which fits as you go back through each area in reverse, until you reach the starting dune again and (if you had at least one companion) learn who you met along the way
The Orbit ascent music and credits song of Sky have ethereal feels to them, with the ascent music having the feel of being one of many, never truly alone in your quest, and getting to see that unity
The credits song of Sky has the feel of, in the first half, hope despite the odds, with melancholy tunes, but in the second half, the piano notes start up, and slowly seem less lonely and melancholic to peaceful and united, continuing with the theme of not being alone in one's quest, the triumphant feeling of not being alone in this goal really kicking in when the starlit sky lights up and we see ||Megabird herself|| lit up in golden light, then a single candle burning brightly against the dark

These two are definitely among my favourite pieces of music ever created. Iirc, there's an interview about the former, in which Mr Wintory talks about the process of making it and all the directions it was initially supposed to take, that ended up being scrapped. It's a fun video lol
