You will not have cape during any quest even if it is the ultimate cape (personally tested). You get free roam after quest 5, before that you have to start either quest 1 or 2, go home and then use return shrine to get free roam with cape.

You can use your own props for the ones we can obtain (the plushies, tiki torch, pillows, jars, anniversary flag banner) and the embers crab toy counts for crab too, even though its not the same as a regular crab. The sapling trees inside the meditation room count as well as the admire sapling quest ones. Both lantern styles count (forest or wasteland social area) aviary and the dye shop/salon has around half the items as well
I think the only "hard" one to find is the manta fin statue, since its only in sanctuary and reefs inside the entrance cave

These are dye-pots. You essentially fill them via so-called "butterdyes" (colored butterflies) like candles and once filled, you can then forge them into dye that is used to customize your cosmetics at a dye-shop in Aviary. :)
