What I'm getting from all of this, the invasion of the darkness.
As more things happened, as krills, crabs, and more darkness came, there is a possibility of a migration of light creatures running away from the areas, such as wasteland, that used to be lit up.
As it became worse, it got to the point where even the elders had to get involved, which ended up being their own demise.
As eden continued its reign, soon, the rebirth, aka skids, returning, coming to help their past ancestors, finally arive, and now its our job to save it, and possibly even eden when the time arrives.

Most likely the seasons will not repeat most of the seasonal cosmetics will come back with traveling spirits though! Plus- you can do past seasonal quests! You have to find the season guides and you should be able to access the quests

Shard event is a permanent addition

To complete a seasonal quest, you can find the void of shattering in the ancient memory and tap the "!" to complete the quest
